The Mask of Angelus (OOC)

APPEARANCE
Xander wears his brown hair at shoulder length, often tied into a ponytail with a strip of leather. His slim build often causes people to take him lightly, usually to their own misfortune. Whenever he is out of his home, he always wears clothing made of soft black leather, black knee high boots with soft soles, and a black cloak with the hood pulled up to cover his face. His belt holds two slim short swords, one on each hip, and a number of pouches to hold the various tools of his trade. When necessary he also carries a pack that contains some of his larger tools, it is essentially a rolled sheet of leather with the tools strapped in place on the inside to prevent them from rattling against each other. When he carries it, that pack is strapped diagonally across his back.

BACKGROUND
Xander grew up on the streets of Tallus with nothing but his wits to protect him. He had a natural talent for theivery, and so used those talents to survive a harsh life. When he was about thirteen, he caught the attention of a local thieves guildmaster who took Xander under his wing and taught him everything he needed to know to be a master thief. Naturally intelligent and agile, Xander learned quickly, and soon exceeded all of his master's expectations. As he gained skill over the years, Xander realized that he could only go so far under the thumb of the guildmaster and began looking for a way to free himself from the guild's control. His chance came unexpectedly when he overheard a conversation between the guildmaster and one of the guild's assassins. They were planning the execution of a free-lance enforcer by the name of Arrius, who had somehow displeased the guildmaster. Xander had met Arrius a few times, a huge brute of a man, nearly unbeatable in open combat. Xander felt no real loyalty to Arrius, but he didn't have anything against him either, and practical as he was, Xander could clearly see the benefit of helping Arrius.

After Xander had informed Arrius of the impending assassination, the big man went berserk. He rampaged through the guild house, killing any thieves who crossed his path, including the guildmaster himself, as well as the would-be assassin. When his rage was sated, he thanked Xander and the two formed a friendship of sorts. From time to time they still worked together, and always to their mutual benefit.

COMBAT SKILLS
Xander is highly skilled at wielding two short swords simultaneously. He fights with speed and grace, but usually prefers to avoid fights altogether whenever possible. He is also quite skilled with a knife, both in closed combat and when throwing from a distance.

KNOWLEDGE AND OTHER SKILLS
Xander has a very good technical and chemical knowledge, which he puts to good use when crafting the tools of his trade. Many of the devices he uses are of his own design and custom built in his private workshop. His specific knowledge includes poisons, drugs, explosives, mechanics, and general chemistry and engineering. He is also highly skilled at stealth, and prefers to go undetected wherever he may be.

Appearance
He keeps his black hair cut short. His large size and physical build make him a presence in any room. His clothing contains a long grey hooded cloak with the lower parts tattered over years of use. He often keeps the hood up, but it does not overhang on his face, but just acts to cover the top of his head. He does not wear armor over her torso or legs as he finds it cumbersome and irritating. He does have steel shoulder pads similar to that one might see on a football player which he wears often. These make him appear ever more broad shouldered and intimidating. When going to work he will also wear steel gauntlets that have the fingers fashioned into claws. He does not carry any identifiable weapons, as he prefers to use his overpowering size, strength and bare hands to settle his differences. He does keep a large knife in his boot, but does not depend on it. He also carries a garroting cord as an alternative.

Demeanor
He has always been one quick to anger. This may have something to do with him using high powered steroids since he was a teenager. There are times when he can let an insult roll off his shoulders with a shrug and a laugh while other times the slightest provocation has resulted in someone being beaten to death. His temper has always been something that others had feared, and as such most who know him treat him with the upmost respect and avoidance. He has been a fugitive of the law for years and is currently wanted for questioning as a suspect in numerous murders, though he had never been arrested due to the lack of witnesses willing to speak. He prefers to settle his differences with his hands and does not rely on outside tools.

COMBAT SKILLS
Brute Force. That about sums up his training and experience. There is no finesse involved. He will simply hit someone until they stop moving, break their neck with his hands or simply just manhandle someone into submission.


KNOWLEDGE AND OTHER SKILLS
He is knowledgeable about street lore, where there are safe houses. He does not have any formal education and works as a bouncer for some of the more high risk taverns in the dangerous areas of town. He does act as a freelance enforcer for many of the street gangs assisting in collecting debts or information.

His social group consists of thieves and other cutthroats but before he considers anyone a friend they have to prove their worth in some fashion. Those few who do earn his approval are welcomed into his own personal circle of protection. Once that becomes common knowledge his friends are often also treated with the utmost respect. He considers his friends his family, as he has never known a true family of his own.

As far as a conscience goes, he falls under the rare 1% of people with psychopathic violent tendencies in society. A life living in the darkest corners of the city have hardened him. His view on life is that it is simply a temporary state of being. All creatures, human or otherwise live on borrowed time. Survival of the fittest is the only law he abides by.

Hey PD,

I wasn't sure if I was going to be able to use the syringe idea for Arrius' problem, but I did a quick check on how long the syringe has been around and apparently the first piston syringes were used in Roman times. during the 1st century AD. So I figured it should fit into the timeline well enough.

I gotta find some way to get that crap in em, I don't think they grow em that big otherwise.

lol, yeah, don't worry about it too much dude, syringes have definitely been around alot longer than alot of the stuff Xander uses. As I mentioned in my email, the world we're working with is low magic, but has a technological advancement that you wouldn't generally expect in a medieval setting. I've done my own research, and nothing Xander uses would have been "impossible" during the time period we're looking at. I mean, chemically speaking, flares are very simple as long as you have the right ingredients, and so are most explosives.

APPEARANCE
Saul keeps his black hair cut short in a military regulation style. He generally wears the uniform of his station, a full suit of plate armor with the insignia of General etched on the shoulders and over the heart. His armor is blackened silver in color, and highly polished at all times, with a matching helmet styled after a wolf which he only wears in battle.

BACKGROUND
Saul grew up within the Brotherhood of Angelus, a secret society whose sole purpose is to facilitate the resurrection of Emperor Angelus. Since the fall of the Emperor, the Brotherhood has existed in the shadows, their members infiltrating every major political and military organization in the world in preparation for the Emperor's return. Saul's father was First Sword of Angelus, one of the three most powerful members of the Brotherhood who together formed the Inner Circle. Saul was raised and trained to become an instrument of the Brotherhood, learning weapons and military strategy, so that one day he could take his father's place as First Sword. At a very young age, Saul enlisted in the Tallusian army, and through a combination of skill and well-timed assassinations, rose quickly through the ranks. At 36 years of age he is the youngest General in the history of the Tallusian army. When the Tomb of Angelus was finally unearthed in the heart of the city, Saul used his authority to select the location of the tomb as the site for a new military base. In the two years since its completion, many men died attempting to breach the tomb. Finally, Ludwig Weiss, one of Saul's subordinates within the Brotherhood proposed a plan to use a thief to do their work for them.

Saul is a master in the use of sword and shield in combat, and an expert in the use of other weapons as well. He is a strong, powerful warrior, but is also fast and skilled, and has never been matched in combat.

Saul is likely the greatest military genius since Angelus himself. He has commanded armies through countless victories and has never been defeated on the field of battle.

APPEARANCE
Kajatta wears her shoulder length blonde hair tied in a bun when in uniform. Even though it's naturally straight, the constant state of being tied up leaves it wavy when she decides to let it down. Since her life at the moment is strictly a military career, her wardrobe consists only of her uniform, and another uniform for when the first one needs washing. The only thing that would set her apart from other officers of her rank is the various magical trinkets that adorn her, and a belt pouch designed to carry slightly more than the average officer's complement of field accessories.

BACKGROUND
Kajatta remembers little of her life before the military. Though officially she didn't enlist until she was sixteen, her life in the army was practically destined for someone in her position. She showed magic potential at a very young age, and was placed at a school for such "gifted children." As such, she remembers nearly nothing of her original family, only that her mother was a barmaid and that her father must have visited said bar at least once. Her studies at the school consisted of studying all manner of academics, practicing magic, and learning military protocol. Throughout the years, the subject matter gradually became more strictly military, finally limiting magic practice to one quarter of the total curriculum, and abandoning academics altogether in the last year. The school's sole purpose is to shelter those with "undesirable" abilities and indoctrinate them for loyal military service. In the twelve years since Kajatta's enlistment, she has done her service well, and even though her rank reflects that service, military rules regarding mages make her rank just a formality. She will never wield any greater authority and is still considered a subordinate to those with equal rank.

Though Kajatta possesses all the martial training of a military officer, her specialty by far is the use of magic spells in combat. She is versed in many magical disciplines, though she specializes in the use of the primal elements. Using them in specific and sometimes creatively unique ways, she can achieve an abundance of magical variety.

KNOWLEDGE AND OTHER SKILLS
Kajatta's knowledge is limited strictly to what she was taught at the school. Mostly military indoctrination, followed by magical and academic education. She would probably fare quite poorly in a prolonged non-military situation. What she lacks in social graces, she makes up for with a keen intellect and dedication.

APPEARANCE
She has shoulder length red hair, a heart shaped face with sharp features and blue eyes. She wears a red and black hooded cloak with black studded leather armor. She wears common black leather pants and shin high boots. She wears a metal head band which is adorned with a large ruby in the center. She carries a large Kris dagger which is situated horizontally across her belt line on her back, which is covered by her cloak. She carries a light cross bow on her left side with the bolts on her right. She has a set of fifteen throwing knives on a harness that forms an X over her chest. She wears a black buttoned silk shirt over top of her armor and throwing knives to keep them from public view.

BACKGROUND

Keisha had never known a normal life. As a child she had learned to move items with her mind. She later learned that the ability was termed to be telekinesis. She also quickly learned that such a skill was exceptionally rare. Even as a child she had been labeled a witch. She had almost been stoned to death but managed to flee. Her parents also feared her and cast her out. Keisha was quickly located by a man who sought children with unusual talents. Keisha was taken by force, and at the time she did not understand what he intended.

She was taken to a place that she knew only as the Brotherhood where she was introduced to a group of thirty children of various ages. Keisha was like more of the children there and was not permitted to leave the compound. It was there that she was put through a series of training and tests which were designed to test the limits of her abilities and to fill her mind with the propaganda of the brotherhood.

Each of the children were taken for different purposes through their training. Some learned the arts of war and strategy, while others learned of diplomacy and economics. The focus Keisha had been given was to the shadow arts. She learned to move without sound, and to kill without mercy. So fully was her psyche trained and conditioned to the laws of the Brotherhood. Her life involved no joys. She would train and she would sleep. The mental tests fortified her thoughts against the acts she was commanded to carry out. She honed her ability and excelled with the tools of her trade. Throwing knives were her most skilled asset, which was enhanced with her telekinetic ability. She was also trained in the use of the cross bow and the Kriss blade for close in work.

Her workout regiment left her slim body well muscled and nimble. She learned to stay light on her feet and was taught acrobatics, which she also used her telekinetic ability to supplement. She was taught of the world as seen through the Brotherhood’s eyes. The world was a vile place and in need of cleansing. She believed the Brotherhood sought a higher order, though there were obstacles.

Keisha’s skills were used for killings and assassinations to enhance the Brotherhood’s interests. The years of experience she developed raised her status among the Brotherhood. She stood out among her peers and eventually was granted the reward of being promoted to the position of ‘Shadow Sword’. All the assassins and spies in the Brotherhood now answered to her, though most worked alone, she received information from all. Her network of spies and information provided vast intelligence from around the world.

Keisha has been trained in stealth movement and hiding. She has a moderate competency with her short blade, but prefers to utilize her knife by ambushing her targets by a rear stealth approach. She has a marksman hand with her crossbow and throwing knives. She uses her telekinetic talent to assist in directing her throwing knives to meet their mark. This allows her to alter the speed and direction of travel in mid flight when needed. She can also use her ability to knock her enemy off balance before striking if needed. She has mastered her telekinetic power to the point that she can use it to assist her in acrobatic movements.


KNOWLEDGE AND OTHER SKILLS
She is competent in tracking and hunting.
Fanatically loyal to the Brotherhood.
She has a working knowledge of picking locks and disarming traps.
She can set basic traps but does not often carry the tools to do so.

Hey Thenician, I didn't have Kajatta confront Arrius and Xadner outside the house, cause that would make for a short post, haha. So, you can play it out however you like. Whether she follows us or get reinforcements or whatever. I did leave an in for a confrontation at the end of the post though if you want to use it. Otherwise it'll be easy to write off.

Well, I'll be taking on the role of the third member of the Brotherhood's Inner Circle. So here she is, I've used her before, but I think she fits in well since the villains need a mage.

APPEARANCE
Shara is skinny to the point of looking unhealthy, though is still stunningly beautiful. She wears her black hair loose and it is nearly long enough to reach her waist. She always wears a low cut black dress that tends to pool near the ground to hide her feet. She wears her nails long and sharp, and they are always painted blood red, as are her lips. She does not usually carry anything with her, but has sometimes been seen wielding a short black staff that appears to be entirely composed of solidified shadows.

BACKGROUND
Very little is known of Shara's origins before being brought into the Brotherhood of Angelus. She was brought in at a young age, having been identified with the gift of magic. From the beginning it was clear that her talents far surpassed those of any others who had been brought into the Brotherhood to be trained. She quickly mastered the primal elemental magics, and moved on to more difficult, albeit more dangerous, areas of magical study. She eventually found herself studying under the Grand Magus of the Brotherhood himself, an extremely old and decrepit man, who even at his late stage of life was a more powerful sorceror than most could ever hope to be. From him she learned the incredibly powerful, and incredibly dangerous, art of Shadow Magic. As before, she was quickly able to master her lessons, and the Grand Magus, impressed with her ability, selected her to succeed him as Grand Magus upon his death. Her opportunity came at the young age of twenty four, when the Grand Magus finally succumbed to old age and died. She rose to the position of Grand Magus and took command of all the Brotherhood's mages. She has filled the role admirably for a year since her ascent, working closely with the First Sword and Shadow Sword as a member of the Inner Circle to fulfill the Brotherhood's ultimate goal of resurrecting Emperor Angelus.

Shara is a master in the use of all primal elemental magics, particularily their use in combat, but her real strength is in the use of Shadow Magic. Using her abilities she is capable of manipulating raw shadows in a number of ways, the true limit of that power is unknown.

KNOWLEDGE AND OTHER SKILLS
Her raw natural talent with magic, coupled with her high intellect, allows Shara to manipulate magical energies in interesting and creative ways. In addition, she has at her disposal several dozen lesser mages within the Brotherhood.

Okay, so the idea for right now is that the military, having been informed to watch the road to Leita, placed a checkpoint at the outer limits of Tallus. Meaning the outer edge of associated farmlands, etc. To check any suspicious individuals and vehicles leaving through that road. The plan is that Weiss will be supervising the group, and hopefully evolve that scenario. At some point during the posturing phase, before combat, Kajatta will accuse Weiss of being a traitor or a spy or something and tell the soldiers to arrest him, but since the soldiers were place in his command by Saul, who outranks her, he instead accuses her of treason and orders the whole group executed.

Hey guys, just got my post up. Sorry its a little short but I had a really exhausting day. If you guys want to do a little combat I'll get a longer post up next time. I haven't posted with my villains yet obviously, but I will when I get home tomorrow. Should be an exciting post, our first meeting with the legendary Angelus.

Yeah sounds good dude. I'd throw up a post, but i litterally spent the last 12 hours dealing with a suicidal dude barricaded with a gun. Fun times. Too tired to write anything decent. Well that last post went a hell of a lot longer than I was planning on. Guess that's what happens when I develop the plan as I'm writing. haha.

Ah well.

So what do you guys think about the royal heirs. I left if open in case we wanted to do something with that.

The two ways I could see it would be:
A) Keisha finds them, kills them. end of sub plot.

B) They meet up with the heros and join in on trying to take down Angelus and regain their place.

Its just how it wrote itself out so whatever you guys feel like I'm good with.

Hmm. That was a pretty good read. My vote is to keep them alive, maybe meet up with the heroes, but I wouldn't say "join" them. They are only kids after all. Still, it would help to have some political plan for what to do after the heroes win.

I liked that last Shara post. I'm still on the road for now, and writing on this iTouch is not easy enough to make a full post with. But I was wondering if Shara is going to materialize conveniently in Kajatta's path or just after she leaves. Either way would be exciting. Anyway I'm hoping to finish my road trip by Friday and be good to go by next week. But I'll be reading whenever a hotel offers wifi.

Hey guys, sorry it took so long for me to post. I'm still in rough shape but at least I can think a little now. This damn cold feels like the plague... anyway. I left the last post open to give everyone a chance to write a bit of a fight.

Also I wasn't sure what Kajatta was planning to do. I didn't want to leave town without meeting up again, so I figured this little melee woud give us all a chance for a bit of action and possibly an in if Kajatta wants to meet up again.

Also, I think that Ducat guy should get killed during the combat. One less loose end...
