"One can never be too careful when making acquaintances. I assure you we come as friend, not foe." Vaalic accepted the hand that Strife had put forward, at first the shake was a bit stiff, but when they released it seemed as though the tension between them was slowly ebbing. He broke eye contact for a moment, noticing Somber staring at him from her seat behind Strife. "Ahh, allow me to introduce Somber Nights.." Somber gave him a friendly nod when he turned his head to see who Vaalic motioned towards, and extended her hand in greeting. Lowering his voice he continued, "this is our Queen...her identity is as secret as yours, if you understand." She took a seat next to Vaalic nearer to the fire, so the three could talk in privacy.
"Strife if I may?" she questioned out of politeness and took her seat. "I know it is hard for you not to see the circumstances my people have fallen under. I ask this not for myself but for my people, without your aid I am afraid our cause will fail." She spoke to him for moments utter determination stripped across her face. Describing to him, her efforts of the past and those they would strive for into the future, should peace ever come to her Kingdom. She continued to tell him of the others that have joined their efforts, of Silver Bahamut, Jasmine Eclipse, Jake who himself was seated behind them his nose deep in brew while he spoke with her son, and of Khell and Vindao the dragon rider and Nuanni his mount, who though reluctant, would help them, of her own son Arimas who would do what he could to aid them. He listened with curiosity, watching as her expressions changed as she described each of her comrades, even those she did not know well she spoke of them highly regarding each as friends. At that moment her concentration was broken as the son she just spoke of came upon her, bidding his good-bye duties of his own needing to be taken care of, and thus the conversation continued, Somber and Vaalic doing what they could to convince Strife to join their cause against their most recent invader. The night was growing long, their tankards run dry, they sat waiting as Strife pondered their words watching the fire die before them. In her heart Somber knew they would win, she knew he would join them.

Arimas having bid his mother fair well, left the tavern and turned down the road returning to Freeport. “Three times in two days...†He thought to himself, this trip was becoming tedious even for him. In less than three hours time he was standing on its borders, looking at the buildings stretched out before him, in this place he felt like he was home. Then he remembered the intruders and watched as the sentries walked the streets, within a days time the security had increased nearly double. Walking the streets would be entirely to dangerous, without a thought he climbed a nearby tree, nearly to its top, crossing one of its branches, he grooved his fingers between the straw of the thatched roof before him pulling himself onto it. He could see the moon shining brightly above the city, and cursed himself for the lack of darkness, praying silently that one of the dragon riders would not see him. He moved swiftly and silently trying to avoid detection as he crossed over the roofs. He could see the Governor’s Hall rising above the row of homes he now perched on, its cool stone a stark difference to the wooden buildings that surrounded it. He knew just where he was going, being more than once summoned to the Governor’s chambers, as a prince of Faith though, not a thief. The room he aimed for was on the second floor, convenient with him being at this level. Should the balcony doors of his suite be unlocked, he could gain entrance with little effort. Much as he thought, for one being so smart, he was apparently either dumb, or unafraid. Arimas had his bet on dumb. Opening the glass pained doors he walked seemingly undiscovered into the General’s chambers. On his desk was the item in question, just lying upon a sheet of paper, hot wax crusted around its outer edges. Of what importance this ‘seal’ had he didn’t know, but apparently Vindao seemed it important enough to send him here to retrieve it. His mission complete, he simply turned to leave, noticing on his way out the chest in which he knew held the master keys to every lock in Freeport, his face contorted into a mischievous grin, which with ease he picked the lock on the chest, retrieving the ring of keys. “Yeah stupid..†he said to himself with quiet gratification.
“Stupid Aye?†the rough voice broke in behind him, Arimas did not have to turn to see whom it was, it could only be one person.
“General Rhuaka I presume.†He turned slowly to see the man he so badly at that moment wanted to kill, though knowing deep down that this would solve nothing.
“And you would be..†His question went unanswered, Rhuaka’s face beamed with anger, over the ignorance and more so over the intrusion.
“None of your concern sir.†Arimas muttered finally through clenched teeth. “If you do not mind, I really must be on my way.†Arimas reached for the handle of the door, ready to open it and make his escape, though stupid the General was, Arimas did not doubt that he was blood thirsty as well.
“You see boy... truly I DO mind.. If you had not noticed you have taken something of mine, and where I know you intend to leave with your prize, I would much rather see you dead.†Arimas could hear rather than see the man withdraw his sword... and where Arimas was of course stealthy and quick on his feet, he was no swordsman, and his talent was not nearly developed enough to take on a trained swordsman, his mind whirled around the possibilities all ending with his death, or apparent capture. He would have to take his chances. Rhuaka took a step forward.. “Face me boy, I do not wish to strike you through the back, that is just not honorable.â€Â
“Honorable..†Arimas slowly turned to face him.. “You DARE speak of Honor Sir? You feel this.. HONORFUL..†Anger was growing inside of him, he became unpredictable in times like these, not even he could tell what would happen. Behind him the doors swung open with ferocity, glass breaking, bringing attention from below. The General was momentarily thrown off guard by his display.. Though regained himself in time to respond to Arimas ..“GOOD DAY SIR.â€Â
“Yes good day...... Be sure to tell your friends not to struggle, there will be no point you see.. My Sentries are nearly there..†he laughed to himself.. “You may be lucky to find a survivor my boy.†Arimas lost control, turning suddenly back to Rhuaka his eyes glowing with anger and fear, no notion was made but an unseen force threw him back pinning him to the wall, clawing at his throat in a poor attempt to free himself.
“For your sake I hope you are wrong.†Arimas jumped from the second story balcony, landing on a near by roof, slipping he fell to the ground below, with no notion of guards or dragons, he ran, with all he the strength he had left, the only thought in his mind was his mother, and the danger that was comming.
