The first rays of dawn reflected majestically off the surface of Nevar, a lake situated behind the Leonhart family manor. The chirping of crickets slowly faded allowing a charming song sung by two meadowlarks be heard as they flew over the estate stopping to perch on a large willow set in the heart of the manor?s courtyard. A light wind blew about playfully tickling the trees causing their leaves to dance about overhead. This was indeed a special day for on this day a new life would be brought into the Leonhart family, one that would start a chain of events that would forever change their destinies. On this day Killian Lu'ar Leonhart was born making him the youngest child next to Malachi Leonhart and later the middle son upon the arrival of Caitriona.

The aura about the child upon his birth made it obvious to all that he was destined an immense purpose in life, sadly, one that would be filled with much sadness and even betrayal. It was also evident that the child would posses great skills in the art of magic. "I am not yet certain as to what his ability will be, but I do know that he holds a power that few have or will be able to master," Mage Guardian Deas stated to Killian?s mother and father after his delivery into the world. It was not hard to believe that this statement would prove to be true for their eldest son Malichi, at the age of seven, already began to show signs of his ability to communicate with creatures of the forest and even the tress themselves. That was a year ago and he had thus began his training in the arts with his grandmother, Dymphna, on his mothers side. These signs all seemed to mark the great continuation and tradition of the family?s history.

The Leonhart family name has been around for many generations. It is a powerful name that people know do to the families history of leadership and wealth and Lord Cyrus T. Leonhart and his wife Amitha Leonhart were the current occupants to this name. Lord Cyrus worked with the Atuan government like his father and his father's father before him. He was currently the military strategist for N, one of the three largest cities in Mulindar, located on the northern coast of the Garudin Sea. Cyrus was an expert swordsman and one of the best strategist that the Atuan military had ever known, however, this was not do to his skills as a strategist but do to a secret that would later get him discharged from Atuan?s services.

Amitha, like her parents, was an adept in the use of magic. The Airecynth family had always been gifted with the ability to use arts do to their elven ancestry and because of this, Cyrus's generation of the Leonhart family would be gifted with skill. It was specifically for this reason that her and Cyrus were arranged to be married. What would make the Leonhart family better then by giving them the ability to use the arts as well bring the Airecynth name into the spotlight yet again. It was all set up by Lord Magnus Leonhart in hopes that his son Cyrus would be blessed with "gifted" offspring. Amitha would be the first to admit that she was not thrilled about the idea of being used for such a purpose, however, on the night she was going to attempt her protest to her Lord Cyrus was the night he would steal her heart. He was a warm kind man and she began to fall in love with him over time solidifying the idea of marriage for both? but perhaps the mixing of the two bloods was not as clever of an idea as the two families once thought.

"A-are you sure this is necessary Guardian Deas," Amitha questioned

"I'm afraid so, his powers would otherwise grow too strong too early in his development and who knows what kind of devastation that could cause before he was properly trained, same goes for the third child."

"It's for the best Amitha, Cyrus began "Guardian Deas would not lead us wrong on such matters...he must be Warded"

"I-I just don't understand--"

"You will Lady Amitha... Deas interrupted ..you will"

Thus Killian himself was heavily Warded--not against memories, for a newborn had none, but against the magic that curled within him, waiting. Shinning. Growing, even as Deas Warded it with all the cunning he possessed. When he emerged from the work after almost nine hours, he muttered something to Amitha about Killian's given name being appropriate, and then collapsed and slept for a whole day.

****** Childhood ******

Killian lived a pampered life. At the age of five he already had six servants to attend him and began to think that at this rate by the age of eight he would have well over a dozen. Most would have found such a life fascinating but to him it was nothing more then an intrusion of privacy. He could not go anywhere without at least one of them , only one if he was lucky, fallowing behind him like puppies fallowing their mother. Killian was never sure as to why they where always around. It was almost as if they were waiting for him to get into trouble which was never likely since the only thing he did throughout the day was study with Scholar Zenith. He used to go horseback riding along the outskirts of the estate but found it rather annoying to have his servants galloping right behind him so that was no longer an option. Instead he decided he would give his servants something to do, so he began to cause trouble throughout the manor.

The name Killian Leonhart began to strike fear into the hearts of the servants now and the sight of him approaching almost sent them running in the opposite direction. He was constantly playing jokes on them or just causing some sort of trouble. Finally, his mother decided that it might be in the servants best interest and health to be relived from their duties of taking care of young Killian. This was decided of course after he had informed her of his plan to annoy them as much as they did him until they left him alone. She laughed and decided to save him the trouble.

His mother was a kind woman. She had fine features and stood about average height for a woman. Her eyes were the color of emeralds which were enhanced by the long golden locks that cascaded down her back like rays of sunlight. She hand an unearthly grace about her much like a dancer Killian thought and many referred to her as being hauntingly beautiful. She was of course known for her abilities as a mage, but many were drawn to her kindness and willingness to help others.

The only other family member that Killian saw, and even so rarely, was his oldest brother. Malachi was nearing fourteen and, therefore, spent most of his time with father learning the ways of swordsmanship and war. He never took a liking to Scholar Zenith and many signs pointed to his lack of schooling. He had shoulder length black hair that he kept pulled back so it would not hinder his vision during training and already had the build of a warrior. It was no secret the Malichi had always been jealous of Killian and he made sure to make his objections known to him through constant verbal assaults, but, he would eventually get what was coming to him.

Many things happened over the next year. Killian turned six shortly after his mother made an announcement that there would be an addition to the family before the end of the year. Killian thought this was wonderful news for he would finally be older then someone, not to mention that the conversations he could have with the new toddler would probably be more intellectual then anything he could talk about with Malichi. The oldest son of course did not take the news well.

His jealously of Killian seemed to increase with every passing day and now there would be another child brought into the family that would take more of the attention away from him. However, there was one benefactor to all this. Being the oldest, if anything were to happen to Cyrus he was willed everything, that was the Leonhart tradition. Or at least that?s the way he felt it should be. The reality was that it was split equally amongst the children meaning that now it was going to become a three way split.

Months went by and mother began to show signs of expecting. She had gotten so big that it took the assistance of two people to lift her out of her chair after dinner. She was escorted back to her room that night by Healer Deas. The spoke softly as they made their way down the hall towards one of the guest rooms. Killian remembered someone once saying to he and Malichi were born in that room. It was then that it dawned on him, the baby was coming tonight.

That night Killian plumped pillows under the sheets to mimic his sleeping form and sneaked out of his room. A tiptoe journey along the upper balcony outside the schoolroom brought him to the corner of the wing. An easy slither by a storm gutter, a scramble across reddish roof tiles, a short climb to another balcony, and he reached a sill. The window was half-open, thin dark drapes drawn imperfectly shut. Wedging himself against the brick frame, he peered within. Someone was crooning soft words of encouragement. When low voices spoke from the other side of the draperies, mere inches from where he perched, Killian nearly fell off the sill.

"From what you've told me of her first two birthing, this one wont be easy, either," said a voice Killian didn't recognize, male and deep and concerned. "Can't the Guardian send for someone?"

"Even if he could, we can't risk it." Lady Amitha voice shook, as if her heart beat too fast. " No one must know about this birth Deas. No one outside of this Manor, or inside the manor."

"What they don't know can't be tortured out of them? I see." He paused. " But what of Malachi and Killian"

"The same goes for them as well Deas."

Killian hugged his knees to his chest, cold now to his marrow. When gasps became screams, the voices at the window went away. The sun rose a long, long time later, but the could not warm Killian?s chilled, cramped body. A servant, opening windows in the next wing, saw him and called out in alarm. He was coaxed down, tucked into bed, given something hot to drink. That night a Ward was placed upon the Manor, one warding memories. No one but Amitha and Guardian Deas would remember the girl born to her that night.

Thus it was that Caitriona, born Leonhart but called Ferune, grew up as a poor orphan girl taken in by the Leonhart family. She was a rather plain child and for the most part went unnoticed. She did not distinguish herself in any way: she committed a normal amount of mischief, fell into the middle range of scholarship, and was chosen neither first nor last in games. She sang in the children?s choir organized by Scholar Zenith, but never soloed: she had no trouble with basic mathematics, but higher functions defeated her. Caitriona was simply an average little girl, Cathy

Which is precisely what Guardian Deas had labored to accomplish with his magic by Warding hers-- the powerful magic child.

One morning a few weeks before her tenth birthday, Cathy was on her way to school when she heard a maid tell the groom to saddle Malichi's. Malichi was riding to Portsmouth, the home of the Academy and head of mystic arts. Cathy immediately abandoned class and raced up three flights of stairs to the chamber kept for Malichi?s infrequent visits. It was just up the hall from her own room, where she made a brief stop to scrounge in a drawer for her purse.

After a respectful knock elicited permission to enter, she found Malichi polishing his sword. Cathy begged him to purchase a book she was wild to read.
"Here's money," Cathy said. " It wont take long, Malichi, please?"

Malichi glanced down at Cathy's palm. Five carefully hoarded copper coins, tarnished and slightly sweaty, vanished into Malichi?s large hands.

"If I remember," Malichi said, bending to check reflection in his sword. "I don't see what use you could find out of a dumb ol book." he argued.

Cathy was long accustomed to Malichi?s total lack of interest in anything requiring even a minimal mental effort. She thanked him again, cast a last look at him and bowed herself out.

Malichi returned from Portsmouth later that evening with his purchases: new boots, new armor, and a gold earring. But nowhere in his room could Cathy's small commission be found.

"Oh that," Malichi said when Cathy ventured a question "I didn't get to the shop. It's a filthy street, I wonder that you're allowed to visit"

Cathy gulped back disappointment and asked politely for her money.

"I haven't got them," replied Malichi, " These boots cost more then I thought. Anyway, I had to use your money. I knew you wouldn't mind. So you see even if I'd had time to look for your book, I wouldn?t have had enough to buy it."

As it happened, Cathy did mind. Very much. It had taken five weeks to earn those cut pieces. Now she had no money--and no book either.

Cathy stared at her scuffed boots. "May I please have my money back, Malichi?"

"It's not convenient for me to repay you right now. Ask my mother for it."
"Please, Malichi. I don?t like to do that."
"Why ever not? She can easily afford five cut pieces."
"I just-- I don't like to ask her for money."

"I do , all the time." Malichi paused. " But then, I'm the oldest son. Very well, Cathy, the next time you come to visit me, I'll have your money for you."

"I'd like it now, please. I need it."

Swinging around from his boots, Malichi frowned. " For what? Some silly book?"
"All the same, I need my money back."
"You'll have to wait!"

"You know Malichi," Cathy began, "you're not a very nice person."
A blink of greenish brown eyes. "What"

"You're selfish and greedy, and if you didn't look so much like Lord Leonhart nobody would ever believe you're his son. I want my money back. Now."

Malichi laughed. "Incredible! Get out of here before I have you thrown out."

Something inside Cathy began to burn and tremble. She did not like Malichi; she never had, and she was sick of pretending respect for someone who didn't deserve it.

Malichi happened to glance at her then, and whatever he saw in Cathy's face made his brows swoop down in fury. "Ungrateful brat--you've lived off out charity since the day you were brought here! Now that I think on it, I'll keep the cut pieces to start repayment on everything you owe-- and I'll collect it all one day, see if I don't !"

Cathy locked gazes with him. Anger flared deep inside, but outwardly she was as cool and steady as frozen stone. And she knew of a stone-cold certainty that she did not want to listen to this man anymore.

"Be quiet," Cathy breathed.

Malichi's lips moved. No sound came out.

Still holding his gaze, Cathy calmly took the purse from the table. Upending it, by feel she counted out five cut pieces from the dozen jingling on the glass tabletop and replaced the rest.

"So you're a liar as well as a thief," she observed. " We're even now, Malichi. I wont tell anybody about this-- and it won't happen again.

Only then did she relinquish Malichi?s eyes. A blink, a gasping breath-- and Cathy arm bones nearly snapped as Malichi grabbed her.

"What did you do to me?"
"Took back what was mine. Let me go."
"You stole from me! How dare you! Give it back you thieving little whelp!"

Malichi fumbled at the pocket of Cathy's short vest, cursing all the while. Cathy struggled, more frightened by the surge of fire within her than by Malichi's fist, then called out to the only defense and protection that had never failed her.
"Killian!"

He was there like magic, already drawn by the shouting.
"What the hell-- Malichi! Let her go!"

"Little thief" He delved into Cathy's pocket and came up with two cut pieces. " She stole from me!"

"Did not!" Breaking free at last, she hurtled towards Killian. He caught her against him, one cool hand smoothing her hair. " It's my money, Killian, I asked him to buy a book--but he didn't, and said he spent all his money and mine, too-- I won't go to Lady Amitha for it, Killian, it's not right!"

"Shh," he murmured. " Of course it wasn't right, Cathy."
"She did something to me!" Malichi accused. " Fixed those demon-eyes of hers on me and--"

Killian rapped out, "Shut up, Malichi!"
"We all know what she is!"
"I said shut up!"

He was now tall enough and strong enough-- and their childhood battles had been frequent enough-- for even Malichi to back down.

Cathy stared up at him, shuddering with cold. " Killian, what's he mean?"

"Nothing, Cathy. He's just being himself--obnoxious as usual. Now tell me what happened."

"You'd take her word over mine?" Malichi interrupted "You forget who I am!"
"I know exactly what you are," he snarled back. " You selfish cow!"

Malichi sucked in a breath. "How dare you speak to me that way!"

"How dare you treat Cathy so! But I don't know why I'm surprised. You don't change, do you? Everything at your convenience, gods forbid you should show any kindness--"

"I don't have to listen to this." He rose, preparing to storm out, then remembered he was in his own room. Cathy saw it all in her face. She could read Malichi's every thought and emotion as if they were written in the air.

"You're damned well going to listen for once in your life.!" You're as cold as the money you love. You're only waiting around for father to die so you can have your share of his money. I bet you are planning to do away with me so you can have mine as well!"

Malichi spat, "Why shouldn't I have more? It's mine! I'm the eldest son! I have expenses! Oh, and you're a portrait of all the virtues!

"Stop it now Malichi or I'll--"

"You'll what?" he laughed.
"That's enough!"

"I'm the only one in the family with any sense! I don't have time to deal with you or an orphaned brat who'll be the ruin of--"

Killian punched him, bringing a quiver to his lips and blood gushing from his nose. Killian's voice was curiously mild. " I said that's enough. Give Cathy her money. Now."

Malichi pinched his swelling nose and obeyed. His eyes were sulky with hatred and the promise of vengeance. Cathy darted a hand out for the cut pieces and fled. Killian caught up with her in the hall. "Slow down, Cathy! It's all right, he wont eat you, I promise."

"I was frightened-- not for me," she amended, having only now realized what she'd witnessed. "Killian, you hit him!"

"Not the first time." he replied with a shrug. The two laughed as they made their way down the hall into the courtyard.

The two friends would sadly not have many more moments like this together. Killian would began to find out about his abilities that next year when he accidentally summoned a tempest which almost took the life of one of the families servants. He would be sent to Portsmouth to train under the eye of their instructors and would later obtain the rank of Warrior Mage Guardian.

Cathy grew into a lovely young women. She stayed alongside Lady Amitha after her divorce from Cyrus Leonhart to help with the household and began to take an interest in the more political matters, which would later help her gain a position amongst the Mystic Council. It would be sometime before she would ever learn of her true family or of her abilities as a mage.

Malichi grew to be a powerhouse in the Atuan military. He would undergo great criticism when it was discovered that his father, Cyrus, was using Lady Amitha's abilities as a Seer to gain the upper hand during battles. Cyrus was discharged from Atuan's services for manipulating her skills and Lady Amitha would later rise to become head of the Mystic Council. Malichi would gain the Leonhart inheritance by default with the mysterious disappearance of Lord Cyrus and Killian's refusal to accept it....

It seemed like only yesterday that Killian arrived at the Academy a youthful child struggling to gain the knowledge to control his abilities and perfect his skills. It had taken great effort on both the instructors and Killian to achieve this goal, not to mention quite a bit of money to repair some of the damages caused by a freak lightening storm.

Now, six years after his arrival, he was one of the best students the Academy had seen in a long time. His abilities as a natural weather mage made him a great asset and his skills as a fighter were nearly unmatched. There had been talk going around of him even becoming a Guardian, which most didn't believe including him.

Guardian's were the protectors of the Mystic Council. Their functions was the train and protect the future leaders of Mullindar and there were many other benefactors going into the elections process. Even at the age of twenty-four, Killian still knew very little about the Mullindar government or the Guardians... but then again even at this age he knew more then most.

It was the end of the school year now and there was a banquet being held in honor of those who would graduate the following week. He would not be leaving the Academy, however, for they asked him to stay on as an instructor which he had no objections to simply because he hadn't made any other plans to go anywhere. Plus, he felt that they would do anything to keep him from leaving. Why get rid of one of your greatest asset?

It was not normally like Killian to attend such functions when there was so many things he had to accomplish. His training was not yet complete and he had much paper work to catch up on. However, his adviser seemed to think that he needed a break from it all, even if only for a short while. Plus, Lady Morigan might be there. He could remember his adviser, Grendin, saying.

Killian still did not understand why Grendin seemed to want to place the two as friends. There was so much discord between them that it was almost like having deaf men playing violins only neither one of them knows the song and they have mistaken cats for their interments. But regardless, he forced himself to attend.

The ballroom was amazingly decorated with lush tapestries; the floor was marble, the columns, paintings, everything was a work of art. Killian took the time to admire every inch of the room as he slowly made his way through the hall. He never tired of his boot echoing off the marble floor and his cape flowed elegantly behind him has he proceeded on.

Killian carried himself with the utmost grace and beauteous demeanor. His physic was that of a well-built man. His muscles showed their definition through his clothing and seemed to ripple elegantly like that of a panther. He wore his color of choice, blue, with yellow trim, which accentuated and brought definition to his blue eyes.

He pauses for a moment as he overheard a man stumbling over his words to some near by ladies. The site brought a slight smile to his face, however he had no time to help him out, however, he thought that it might be best to check up with the guy later on... if he got around to it.

He made his way passed tables full of food: meats, breads, cakes, and the such. A waiter walked passed him caring drinks, which got Killian's attention. The man had not even gotten more then a few feet away when he noticed that one of the drinks on the tray was levitating its self away from the others and going in the opposite direction he was heading. Killian slowly reached out and grabbed the drink he had summoned and slowly nodded to the waiter as if to say thank you.

I do not know why I even bothered to attend. He began to think to himself as he glanced about the room looking at his company. Mostly well dressed men a women holding a high status in Mullindar society. Exactly the kind of people I want to get away from...

He downed the rest of his drink, took a deep breath and made his way toward the courtyard.

She was not at all thrilled. Why did she have to attend such a function anyway? She didn't even go to the Academy so there was really no reason for her to attend. Not to mention she hated to dress up. However, for some reason her father insisted that she'd accompany him there. Come on kitten, her father Tahlein had pleaded it would give you a chance to meet new people. All I ever see you do is train.

It was funny to hear this coming from her father, the fighting instructor for the Academy, she would have thought he of all people would have been pleased with her devotion to the art of fighting. But no, he felt that his daughter needed to spend more time doing "girl thing." Bah! she thought to herself as they maid their way into the banquet hall of the academy.

They made their usual rounds being stopped every few steps or so by one of the other instructors or uppity parents of one of the students. By the time they had finally made it to the banquet table her face ached so from keeping up her fake smile, laughter, and if she heard "Khavi you have grown into a lovely young woman" one more time she was going to snap.

Father, she said smiling towards him and his current company I'm going to head out for some fresh air. Her father looked at her sternly for a moment but then simply smiled and nodded his head. Hurry back though kitten, there is a young man I would like you to meet. She smiled and excused herself and began to head out the nearest exit she would find. ..Riiiiiight she thought

The moon was like a diamond tonight. A light breeze blew about the courtyard and the sound of cascading water from a fountain filled the air. She looked up at the moon and sighed. Why am I even here ? she asked herself not expecting the response the soon followed.

I was just wondering that same thing myself actually. a voice came from behind her.

Hey! Don't sneak up on a person like that! she countered. The man looked at her and smiled slightly. It wasn't until a moment later that she realized she had taken a fighting stance and it must have been an interesting sight with the dress she was wearing. She laughed.

Sorry, just been one of those nights I guess. she said brushing her hair back behind her right ear.

I'm Khavi by the way.... and you are?

Killian bowed slightly followed by his "Killian smile."

I am Killian- he began and might have very well continued if he was not interrupted at that moment.

Killian? What kind of a name is Killian? the woman snickered.

One that a person with a name like Khavi is in no position to question. he grinned. My full name is Killian Lu'ar Leonhart- he began again but even still he was interrupted.

Leonhart? You mean of the Atuan Leonhart family? Killian sighed and turned way to look out over the railing. Heh, I take it by your reaction I guessed right.

Killian turned to face her and smiled faintly. I sometimes feel that its just the name that has opened so many doors for me in life. However, I'm nothing like my--

Oh! There you are Killian, we were beginning to wonder if you had made it tonight. a voice came from off to the side. Killian sighed and a sudden sickness came over him. ...Morigan, how are you? he said forcing a smile.

Morigan was one of the most stuck up, conceited, aristocrats that he had or ever would meet in his life. She was an assistant to the Archmage Xengeth, head of the Academy, and was said to also work along side some members of the Mystic Council. Morigan was a slender women in her thirties and may have even been considered attractive by some. She had taken a liking to Killian during his first year at the Academy and has been pestering him ever since.

She entered into the courtyard followed by her "companion" for the evening and Master Tahlein. Ah Killian, I see you have met my daughter Khavi.

Your...daughter? He repeated looking at her blankly. She was defiantly not what he had pictured an instructor's daughter to be. Yes, we have just been talking. She is quite a remarkable woman Master Tahlein.

Khavi, this is the person I wanted you to meet tonight.

Killian could feel a familiar look now set upon him. It was the blank expression that he had just given Khavi a moment before.

So Killian, I hear that you will be joining the ranks of the Mystic Warriors not to mention becoming an instructor. the man laughed. I guess I had better start looking out of you might very well have my job. he smiled warmly.

Morigan here tells me that you two will be going to the ball together after the ceremony next week.

Killian blinked. Oh she did did she? he said turning his gaze towards her and forcing an obviously fake smile. Well, I guess we can't all suffer from such delusions. he jested getting a strong laugh from all those around with of course the exception of Morigan.

I'd love to go with you Morigan, but you see I've already asked Khavi to go with me. he said noticing Khavi give him a look as if to say "WHAT?" which he countered with a "just play along"

I'm sorry Morigan, but I'm sure that a person as... popular as yourself would have many men waiting to take her to such a gathering. It would be a shame if I was the only one you had in mind. he grinned taking Khavi's hand.

If you would excuse us, I promised Khavi a dance. the two smiled and excused themselves making their way back into the banquet hall. Killian made sure they where out of sight before speaking to Khavi again.

Sorry, I did not really know how else to get out of that situation.

In the far out Blank Mountain Range, a lone figure was traveling through a tough mountain pass... Well it couldn't even be called a pass. There was no path, just rock.

"This had better be worth it. Every rumor I heard of a gateway being present turned out to be false. This one had better be real or I'm gonna find and kill the liar who told me this location."

After a rough journey through the snow covered rocks, Drake finally found a small cave entrance, just big enough to let a man through. It was near impossible to see in there.

"Illuminum."

A bright light started emanating from the tip of the long staff Drake used to travel through the mountains. Drake started his journey into the cave. After a few moments, he already reached the end.

"Nothing here! Nothing here at all resembling a gateway! Or is there? Revelum!"

Drake cast another spell, and a wave of energy came from his staff. However, nothing happened... Drake turned around angrily. This is the last time he's been cheated. He payed good money for this hint.

However, when he was a few steps away, reality at the dead end began to get instable, and there was a bright flash. Drake turned around to see a hideous looking, but not very tall creature, it jumped towards drake, but he turned around and pointed his staff at the creature.

"Stop!"

The creature entirely stopped moving, and remained hanging in the air motionless.

"A Quasit.... So maybe the gateway is here after all... If the scrolls are correct... I might need a sacrifice to open it."

Drake moved his staff backwards, and then threw his hand forward, and a bolt of lightning shot from it at the Quasit, smashing him against the ground. Then, a circle of light appeared on the ground around it, as the creature seemed to explode into light particles, several interesting patterns appeared through eachother inside the circle.

"Finally, I've been searching for this for years! And I've finally found it!"

Drake walked onto the circle, and waved his staff around. With a bright flash, everything, Drake, the cicrcle, disappeared, as if no one had been there all...

Excuse me, someone said from beside them. are you by an chance Killian?

A young man looking to be around eighteen or so stood there shifting his weight back and forth in a very uncomfortable manor. It looked to Killian that the boy may have felt out of place at such a function.

Yes, I am Killian.

I have a message for you sir. The Archmage has sent me here to give you an assignment.

Killian looked at the boy puzzled. An...assignment?

Y-you are a one of the Mystic Warriors... are you not?

I uhh...

True he was to become one but the assignment to become one were not until next week. Why would this child...no, why would the Archmage tell him that he was a Mystic Warrior.

I suppose I am. Killian replied receiving a rather confused look from the messenger boy.

There is an elven boy in the town of Seth. The Archmage wishes for you to bring him back here to the Academy.

Wait, I'm being sent out... to baby-sit? That doesn't seem like a job that the My-

He's was sold into slaver on the Black Market and is currently being held by a man named Olin.

A slave? I thought such a thing was forbidden.

The boy is one of only a handful of his kind.

I-I don't think I understand-

He posses a great gift that could be used against the Mystic Council if in the wrong hands. The Archmage wishes you to bring him back here. He thinks that someone with your abilities would be better suited to handle this assignment. He will also be sending a Guardian along with you.

I understand. When do I leave?

First thing in the morning. Guardian Derrex is already waiting for you back in your quarters.

The messenger bowed and then made his leave. This was just a bit much for Killian to take in all at once. He didn't understand quite what was going on nor why the Archmage wanted to send him on this. He was sure there were others who were qualified for such a task but he was in no position to argue. He excused himself from Khavi's company and made his way to his room.

To his surprise he found no one in his quarters. Guardian Derrex? he called out searching the room but there was no answer. He was about to call the whole thing off as a joke when he suddenly noticed an interesting sight perched on the window ledge... a hawk.

What the bloody hell are you doing out there. he said opening the window and had to almost dive to the floor to avoid the hawk who suddenly bolted through the window, into his room, and perched himself on his desk.

You really shouldn?t talk to your superiors in such a manner.

E-excuse me?

You should apologies immediately and in the future I suggest you don't let such a thing happen again.

Who the bloody hell do you think you are? Killian said taking a step forward but soon found himself unable to move.

It's a barrier spell. Comes in handy don't you think? Killian had a few choice words to say about this of course.

Oh calm down. I'm not going to help you on this assignment if you are going to act like such a child.

You mean to tell me that you're-

Derrex? That I am. I will be the one helping you to get Tenor.

"Ahhh... The life of a draconian does have its upper sides."

The words were smooth, deep and rather quiet, but they carried throughout the room of one of the middle class mansions in the city of Seth.

"Master Howard, you really must sit down and partake of this wonerful diner that, I admit, I cooked myself. I do not jest, this is truely wonderful. A home cooked meal, eaten with my most trusted friend..."

A man in ruffled, rich looking clothing, Howard, smiled uncomfortably at where the voice came from, but his dark eyes would neither look at the meal on the table nor at the source of the words.

"Don't be shy, Howard. Please sit. You look pale, take a drink from the glass in front of you, it should make you less shy. Then you can come and eat this fine diner. I made it for you, you know. Plenty of herbs and spices. Its a delicasy from where I am from, but few find the time to catch it, let alone cook and serve it for *friends*."

Only now did Howard look up and at the table, he purposefully focused out all but the wine glass filled with a deep red liquid, probably wine. Trembling, pale hands moved down to grasp the glass and bring it swiftly up to his chin. Too swiftly it seemed for some of the red liquid spilt from the glass and onto the rich cloths the man wore. With a forced swollowing of the lump in his thoat and not even looking at the spillage, Howard brought the glass to his lips and took a mouthful of the crimson liquid, immediately swollowing before he took another, smaller sip to savour the taste of the wine.

The man's eyes widened and the glass dropped from his trembling hands. The man turned and bent over, everything he had eating in the last few hours poured from his mouth onto the floor. Laughter rose up from where the voice had come from.

"Master Howard, you must really pace yourself, drinking will most certainly lead to sickness in time. You are not used to this particular type of wine yet and so your body rejects it. But fear not, you will have plenty of time to adjust. Perhaps some food in your stumach will help. Hmm?"

After his lunch had been expelled, Howard moved over to the table and reached out for whatever food was available. His hand came away with a meaty chunk of something. He assumed it was a leg of some poor beast. Howard bit down on the meat and then spat it out. It was raw. The mans eyes cleared of their foggy state and he realised he was holding a human leg in his hand. He looked back to the table and saw the body of his wife, half-cooked and on a platter with potatoes, tomatos and herbs over and around her.

His eyes slowly traveled down the length of her body and then continued over the table until they came to a platter with two children lying on it, these were fully cooked, their skin a glazed golden brown. He could feel his stomach protesting when he recognised these two as his children. Then he eyes moved to the man, no, the creature sitting at the end of the table.

It was tall and dark of skin, half of its hair was blonde and the other half black, the same was said for its eyes except one was sky blue and the other blood red. One dark wing was folded against the creature's side and upon the other half of the creature's back was a black cape.

"Well... I guess you are not very trilled with my cooking, nor my surprise. I guess you will have to be taken care of then..."

The creature rose from the chair and picked up a large hammer that had been proped against the table.

"Well... When you get to what ever place you think you are going to after you die, tell them Raliric sent you. Compliments of the chef."

The hammer was brought up and over Raliric's head without effort and then brought down to slam onto the top of Howard's head. Completely shattering the man's skull and the right side of his shoulder bone. To stop the hammer from totally smashing the man's body into oblivion, he changed the course of the hammer to finish up destroying the right side of the man's body, before it was stopped by its wielder. Who grimaced at his work and smiled when the body thumped to the ground.

"What a waste of good meat... You should have told me that you didn't like human... I would have prepared something else... Alas, no one talks to anyone anymore..."

With a sigh the Dracon moved into the main part of the house to look around and find the main bedroom, where he would be able to sleep.

The soft soles of the bucks hoof tapped the pine needles that covered ground. Its movements were both graceful and gentle. The long white streak of fur ran down its underside while the top half of its body was a light brown orange. The sunlight penetrated the thin cover of the pine trees leaves. The entire pine forest was bathed with the streams of light. The buck ambled along between the rows of trees. The air was still with only the hum of the insects fluttering about. Off from the background of the bugs, a faint snap of a pinecone echoed above the other sounds. The buck jerked its head up simultaneously. The long crooked antlers swayed in unison with the rapid turns of its head. The whisper of an arrow stung the still air and then before the buck could act, was struck beneath the heart with the steel pyramid tip of the unseen projectile. There was no time to react and the buck collapsed to the ground. After a long grunt it faded into the next life.

Some thirty yards away a figure emerged from the side of a pine tree. He rose to his feet and trotted towards the downed animal. He raised an arrow high on his bow and aimed at the chest of the buck, but noticed no movements in the lungs. He withdrew his bow and knelt by the buck. He quickly skinned the buck and removed the antlers. He gutted out the valuable venison and left the remainder for the wolves.

The man returned to a small clearing of land where a tiny ring of fire and a light tent were pitched. He rested the meat on a fallen log and preceded to cleaning the inner skin with a moist bloody rag. He tossed a few tinder to ignite the fire and suspended the meat above the warm flames. The fumes of the fire attracted a bony, aging Groenendael Belgian sheepdog with dark ebony fur coat. The man curved his head to his visitor and grinned. Putting down the needle and thread the man greeted the famished dog with an open scratch behind its left ear. Several fleas bounced off and the filth from the sheepdog crept under his fingernails.

"Greetings again sir. Come to swipe me of my meal again have you?"

Saeynn chuckled and let the sheepdog lick the deer blood off his palm. Saeynn had been followed by the old sheepdog for about four days now. Swiped him of his jack rabbit the first day. Since then though, Saeynn had accepted his company when the dog decided to approach him, which was always around meal time. He suspected it was a stray from the nearby town of Seth. Naturally he could not turn away the desperate animal and he continued to feed it the scraps while letting it come and go freely. Besides it was comforting to have its watchful eyes at night as it slept by the wilting fire.

Day withered to night and Saeynn perched himself by the fire and chiseled the shaft of a new arrow. He completed the thin cylindrical pipe and stitched the fletching on. He tied on the arrowhead of the arrow he used earlier. The original arrow had snapped penetrating the skin of the buck. He finished and placed the arrow back into his quiver. He leaned back and dropped off his legs to his rear. Between the skips of the flickering flames, Saeynn watch the black shadow of the sheep dog laying on the other side of his camp. It gnawed tediously at the bone of the venison. Saeynn sighed and watched his breath rise in a white puff cloud in the black velvet sky. He smiled once again at the sheepdog who was preoccupied with the bone.

"Why would someone let a beautiful breed like you out of their grasp? I am sure someone is looking for you to come and bring the flock in."

The dogs licorice eyes floated up in their sockets to acknowledge the speaker, then went back to the job at hand.

"Best I call you something else if your going to be eating all my leftover food, eh?"

The dog seem uninterested in the mans babble and continued not paying any attention to him.

"How about....Johan?"

The dog seem quite unenthusiastic.

"No, perhaps your right. Well, I do recall an old superior of mine. His name was Jeremiah Poro, but that is far to long a name for one such as yourself. I will call you just Poro if you do not mind."

Poro made a slight gesture with his head and then laid his chin down on the grass and went to sleep. Saeynn nodded and squirmed into his tent and drifted off to sleep as well.

The next morning the dragonic creature that had destroyed everyone in a house in Seth was no longer within the seedy, flea ridden city. He was back in his own place of residence. A cave a few miles outside of Seth which no one ever came near for the rumours of their being an otherworldly being there that hornted the area. It was a good life, well as good as it could get when he was what he was, but a good life none the less. He had food, he had a place safe for him to sleep, and he had as much entertainment as he could get by just a mere strole into Seth at night.

But he knew eventually there would be an investigation into all these mysterious deaths and eventually someone might think of connecting a certain cave to the murders that have been happening. Well that is exactly what had happened the night Raliric was traveling back to his cave. Those medaling militia men of Seth had gotten a good reason to come and investigate the cave with a hell of a lot of soldiers.

Raliric was lucky he saw the two hundred or so soldiers that morning and so he was able to ready himself at least a little bit for the coming fight. Alas he hoped there would be no fighting as such, just a slaughter of soldiers who were traveling to where they were not wanted.

Raliric first set into motion a part of his magnificent plan, he conjured an otherworldly being, a Hell Hound as it were, and sent it down the slight incline of the mountain to cause some trouble among the soldiers. This took a small chunk out of his reserve energies, but he had much more to do and soon he would be hard pressed to lift his hammer if any soldier made it as far as the entrence to his cave.

His next act of magic was to summon a creature of nature... a Nymph. He sent this creature to protect the entrence to his cave. He strode out of the cave and looked down upon the massing troops that were now splitting at the center because of the hell hound tearing through them.

To make the troops an easier target for his hell hound, Raliric brought his hands up above his head and said a few powerful words of Nature magic. The effect of his magic was not immediate but one could see dark clouds moving toward the cave. He muttered a few more words and this time the effect was instant, the wind immediately picked up and the clouds moved faster to join up together at the cave.

Raliric's half-cloak whipped around his large form as did his loose clothing. The storm clouds did what their name said, they made a storm. Lightning flashed from the sky to strike unsuspecting soldiers, rain pelted the area and thunder struck fear into the hearts of the soldiers.

Raliric took a deep breath to stop his heart from beating so hard because of the large amount of magical energy he had to expell to create the storm and the powerful winds. He needed time to rest and so he rested whilst watching the progress of his hell hound and his Nymph.

Raliric didn't focus his full attention upon his conjured minions, he was watching the humans and wondering how these creatures survived so long... And then he remembered he was half human and as if that explained everything he nodded to himself. His Nymph had had some fun with a group of about twenty soldiers, but after those were dead or dying the rest of the army came together after being broken apart by the hell hound. The Nymph was now over whelmed by soldiers who no longer responded to her charms and the Hell Hound was bleeding it's fiery blood over a pile of corpses. All together there wouldn't be more then a hundred and twenty soldiers left coming at the hide out of the half draconian.

Raliric began to stand as he kept watch over his hell hound and the humans nearest to it. One of the humans leapt at the Hound only to be caught within those huge jaws, but that was a mistake on the hounds part, because two brave men leapt onto the hell hound's back and in unison slid their swords down into the top of the hound's head. Those two men rolled from the hounds back immediately afterward so that they would not be engulfed by the flames of the hell hound's blood. One of the men was not a lucky as the other fellow. The blood fell upon a piece of exposed flesh on his upper arm, causing the skin to burn. But the men acted quickly and emptied their canteens over the bloody and now burnt arm. The wound would not bleed as it was sealed shut by the flames.

Raliric nodded slightly in respect to the two men who strangely enough didn't wear the armour of the other soldiers. These men moved to retrieve the weapons they had plunged into the beasts head, and strangely the swords remained whole and uneffected by the hound blood. These men were veteran warriors, the draconian could tell. And in the draconian's weakened state, he could not afford these two to reach him. He summoned his reserve energy and left enough for him to use a teleportation spell to get away from his position. He molded the energy into the element of fire and then shaped the fire into a large wave that would take out most of the soldiers and hopefully the two warriors as well.

After a minute of molding the energy, Raliric opened his eyes and saw that the soldiers had moved halfway up to his position. He did not worry, this would take care of the soldiers. He released the energy in short controlled bursts. Sending small wave after wave down the mountain to hammer into the soldiers and the warriors. As more soldiers surcomed to the fire waves, Raliric could see more and more warriors approaching his position, they were not effected by the flames and Raliric became aware of why. Their swords and armour protected the users and wears from fire. These were demon hunters. Just what Raliric needed.

The draconian released the last of the energy he had molded at the remaining soldiers and then began to mold the rest of his energy into the spell for the travel of space. He used this spell oftern and so it took him only a moment to have the spell ready to be released. But the Draconian wanted at least some of these warriors to die and so he walked slowly back into his cave and reset a trap he had placed here long ago for one such occasion. After this way set the draconian released the spell and disipated into nothingness...

The Demon hunters made their way up the mountain and to the cave entrance. The point man moved in first with the rest a few steps behind him. The man had his sword up and at the ready to deflect both physical attacks and magical. But what the Demon hunter had not realised was that he was walking into a trap. His foot clipped the edge of a raised stone and he stumbled forward. And the trap was sprung. The roof of the cave burst aflame and suddenly broke apart to fall down upon the Demon Hunters.

Those that were a few feet behind the point man had a little more time to escape and so they leapt for the exit. The Rocks smashed into the point man and two other demon hunters, completely destroying them against the rock floor. Another Demon hunter received a large cut on his leg that would be healed later, the rest of the group were a little shaken and a little dirty. But still seven Demon Hunters remained.
