All except two of the women had done introductions. Their names were of little concern at the moment, and Vindao would not be bothered to ask. The girl, Jasmine, was eager make progress in their decision making. Patience did not appear to be a personality trait held by any of them. Vindao closed the distance between the two of them, trying to make the girl feel uncomfortable. It had worked, as she took a hesitant step back.
"There are several things that must be done."
He began to answer her question, as Khell took a step to stand beside her.
"You could easily walk into the town without a problem, but you may have trouble getting back out. One thing is certain, however. We must know who is in command. It will play a vital role in how we should proceed from there. Until we know more about who is in charge we should not draw attention to ourselves.
To answer your question simply, I believe we should send someone back to Freeport to observe what is happening and gather any information they can about the Knights, and who is commanding them. We should only send one, or possibly two of us. Our numbers are limited and it will be dangerous. It would be foolish to risk us all on one objective."
There was little pause before both Vaalic and Khellandros spoke as one.

"I will go."

Surprised at the unison in their voice they looked to one another, but said nothing at first.

"Then it shall be the two of us.
We must make this cave more defensible. If we are ever discovered we will need to be able to defend ourselves and have some means of escape. See what can be done. We will be back as soon as we can."

It had all happened so quickly... and now here they all were standing face to face with a dragon rider, he assumed much, that she agreed with Jake. Though as a matter of fact much of what Jake said she felt was true, even up to Vaalic losing his edge, when she had met him, though he was a more-so a child than a knight, he still had a need to control and obtain, now his age was definately starting to weigh him down, to protect and serve, that what he was now, and that was what she missed about him. Somber sighed, as her thoughts kept trailing on and on, she felt mindless, and consumed, the same way she had felt for most of the days journey. It wasn't until she heard the words...

"It shall be the two of us..." that Somber awoke from her drift and looking toward Vaalic asked.

"The two of you, the two of you shall do what?" she asked, ignorance crossing significantly across her face. She heard a smirk from somewhere off in the distance, as well as a fussing baby. Vaalic just querked his eyebrow in question.

"I apologise milord, I have been thinking, it is nearly midday and I have yet to hear from my son. It is only a mothers worry."

"I understand milady, Khell and I are going to return to Freeport, to gather information. We shouldn't be gone long." He attempted to give her a reassuring smile, to no avail.

Somber notioned to the dragon rider and to Vaalic to follow her outside of the cave, there was something she must discuss with both of them privately. Grudgingly they followed her, Nuani's presence close behind.

"Sirs..." nodding to the dragon rider, "I regret not introducing myself earlier, my mind has been drifting. I am Somber Nights milord, of The Faith Hills, it is a pleasure, and I assure you, I appreciate what help you can give us. But something has simply occured to me, since you made your point upon our meeting, that yes we do have three women, and yes a child, as well. I do not feel it in our best interest to send two of our best defenders back to Free Port, though again, I can not say the information that they would recieve would be invaluable to our mission, only that should we become under fire in their departure, we would be at a great loss without their manpower." Both men shook their heads, waiting for her to reveal her point. "The point of this conversation is simply, my son should be arriving within the hour, I requested him to follow us after retrieving necessary items from town. I assure you he is well capable for a child his age. He knows the ins and outs of the town, both above and below, he is stealthy and as much aggrieved as I am to admit, he has no problem entering any building locked or un. It is him I feel we should send." Somber knew she rambled, hell her thoughts rambled through her mind throughout the day, to the point that sometimes she felt she may lose it, but she quieted herself and awaited patiently the response from the three.

Vaalic and Khell were about to set off when Somber seemed to realize what was happening. Her mind had been wandering and she had not heard what had been said. Her thoughts were on her son, and her concern was growing with every moment that passed. Once Vaalic explained what was to happen he was lead outside with Vindao to speak. Vaalic waited patiently as Somber introduced herself to Vindao. He knew this was not the reason she wished to speak to them privately, but he waited for the formalities to end. He only waited a moment before she spoke her mind. Her thoughts were still on her son, but she spoke now as a Queen, not a mother.

"There is wisdom in you're words my Queen. Sending both Khell and myself may take too much from our defenses here. I trust you're judgment over all others, but I cannot allow you to send you're son back there. As you say, he is a mere boy. I do not know Aramis as well as I would like, but I do know that if he returns there he will be in great danger. I am sure he can take care of himself, but it is for you that I worry. We need your thoughts here helping us plan... leading us. We wait for his return and learn what information he has gathered, but if we must go back, I will go in his stead."
Nuanni turned and let out a warning growl. Without hesitation all eyes followed the dragon.
"You make me sound as though I were witless."
Aramis stood in the shade of the trees at the edge of the clearing. Once he was certain he had everyone's attention he began to walk towards his mother. All were surprised with his sudden appearance. Vaalic understood now that Aramis was indeed skillful. Not many could sneak into the camp of a dragon without being noticed.
"Perhaps one day Vaalic you will come to realize that I posses some talent."

It came as a surprise to both Vindao and Nuanni to find that the Queen of this land had been one of the few to hide with them. Although her power was minimal in such a secluded location, the Flurin would need her to either submit to them or take her life. They understood that although they controled the cities many people would remain loyal to their previous lords, provided they had no complaints about their rulers before they were conquered. A living Queen was always a danger, as they were a noticable icon for men to rally behind. Nuanni coud hear someone approaching, but it was too late. Never before had anyone ever been able to come this close to her without making a sound. Immediatly on the defensive she was ready to strike. Before she acted the boy came from the bushes. He was confident and calm. If he had known how close he had come to being killed he may have had a different outlook on the situation. All were surprised by his appearance, but Nuanni was furious. She tried to repress her rage, as she felt her pride had been wounded. He lived only because she knew he might bring valuable information. She could not calm herself until she caught a look from Vindao. She knew that look well, as he knew the meaning it sent. He understood her like no other, and he could feel her anger as others could not. She coud read his expressions as clearly as if he would have spoken them aloud. He needed her calm with her senses about her and she tried to calm herself. The boy continued to speak before anyone had time to ask questions of him.

"Mother... they know you are alive, and they are searching for you. I thought you should know. I have come back with information as you asked. It was not a difficult task. The city was ready to defend against the dragons, but once they were close none had the courage to face them. As well they didn't, there would be nothing they could have done. The city surrendered before any blood was shed. Six dragon knights are in control of the town, and I also discovered that a great many foot soldiers will be arriving before long. None would dare challenge the dragons, but there is brave talk in all the taverns. Once the foot soldiers arive I doubt it would take long before the new law is set."

"Do you know who is leading the knights?"
Vindao needed to know who is was and he did not feel like waiting until this boy got around to mentioning it.

"I do. His name is General Ruakha. His name was all I could gather in such a short time but I do have something else you may find interesting. I met someone I think could greatly help us. He is a mage who controls the weather. If he wished it he could make the dragons unable to stay in the air... among other things. I could bring you to him if you wish."
The harder you train, the harder it is to surrender.

Vaalic understood the importance of what Aramis had told them. He had done a good job in gathering what information he could in such a short time. The mention of the weather mage was of great interest, as he could understand how such an ally could prove invaluable. The mention of foot soldiers also gave a strong sense of urgency to their strategy planning. He could also see that Vindao had found interest in what Aramis had found.

“Very impressive. I can see you have much talent, even if others would not openly say so. I have an errand you may like. A sort of challenge.”
Vaalic could see where this was going and stepped forward to interrupt. Knowing what was about to happen Vindao quickly moved on.

“Nothing major of course, just an errand. You could put your talents to use, if you’d like.”

Walking closer, Vindao moved to talk to Aramis in private. Turning to look at Somber Vaalic tried to read her emotions, but had difficulty. Quietly he led her aside, well away from the others, out of listening range.

“We should act with haste. We need a plan. Have you come up with anything?”

She began speaking softly without meeting his eyes.

"No Vaalic I have no plan. But I do wish for you to accompany me to the weather bringer. Your input in such matters is most valuable to me."

“Of course I will accompany you. If we could convince him to join us we would gain an excellent ally against the dragons. We should come up with our strategy.”

He could see doubt in her eyes, and that worried him. She was his Queen, and doubt was not something he wanted her to feel, though he fully understood.

“We are in this together. I will follow you through this to the end. You
must appear confident, even if you don’t feel that way. It is important for the others to see you as the strong, confident leader I know you are.”

She turned her face from him, a light hue of red consuming her countenance. "Is it that obvious Vaalic.. I must try harder you are right." Looking again to meet his eyes. "We will overcome, of that I am confident, it is the hows and whys, of where I am lost." She inhaled a deep breath.. "We must explain to the others, of what is to come..." She let out her breath long and deep.. "Come facing them will be most difficult..." She grabbed Vaalic by the hand leading him back into the vacinity of the cave. On the way she noticed that Aramis and Vindao had concluded their conversation. Leaving Vaalic to collect the others, she went to her son. To hug him or throttle him was her plan then, though when she saw him she was more concerned, he seemed to be contemplating something, of what she didn't know. "What is on your mind son?" he snapped out of his thoughts long enough to answer her. "I am to return mother, Vindao, the dragon rider has a mission of what seems great importance." She was taken aback by his words for a moment. Though recovered herself before he seemed to notice. "Than you shall take us to the weather bringer you mentioned. Come we must discuss much with the others."

Returning to the cave she saw that most were there... Vaalic and Angel were gone, he must be explaining him leaving again with her. She would have nothing to fear, Vaalic would return as loyal to her as ever, but she would be saddened by his departure. Looking around she met the eyes of her comrades... meeting each and every one she spoke, with as much confidence as she dare. " I will not lie, the news we have heard of Freeport is not well... It would seemed that most have been put to slavery, while others have died at their resistance. It would bode well for us, to work on a defensive strategy. To find someway to ward off dragons. Keeping the fire low would be a good start the less smoke the better, we do not need to invite trouble. There has been talk of footsoldiers. Though in response to our offense, I do have some good news, as you may or may not know, my son Aramis has brought news of someone who could be a great ally. He is a weather bringer, Vaalic and I will be leaving with Aramis within moments to meet him. I would ask of you to ready a defense, Jake perhaps you would accompany Vindao and Nuanni to learn more of our surrounding, where as the rest of you I would only ask that you remain safe until our return. Learn as much as you can in order to defend yourselves, as well as learn of each other, and your surroundings. We will return hopefully with someone that could change the course of our battle." Somber took a deep breath, as much as she had done it, speaking to those around her was something she still was uncomfortable with. She did not know most of these people she did not know if any of them would bide by her words, but the only thing that mattered now was finding this man and returning safely. She walked out into the darkness that was now the night and waited for Vaalic to come so that they may leave promptly with Aramis to find the weather bringer.

The cave was filled with lots of activity as everyone was trying to plan what they are to do next. Jasmine stood in one spot in the cave leaning up against a wall for support; when some of her allies went off to the side to talk amongst themselves. Jasmine just decided to wait for what the others have planned and she would follow the orders. She didn’t care too much of who was going, as long as some people were left at the cave for protection. Once Somber had finished her speech to the group, she headed out into the darkness waiting for Vaalic to head back to Freeport to recruit another ally. The weather bringer intrigued Jasmine as she never met a mage before, especially with someone with great powers such as his. It would sure give everyone an advantage over the dragons if they could ground the dragons. As Jasmine finished her thoughts, Vaalic was walking towards where Somber was standing with Aramis and the three of them took off into the darkness of the forest. The rest of the group that was left behind stood in the cave, watching one another, but not saying a word. Finally, Jasmine walked to Khell’s side and spoke softly into his ear.

“Do you want to head out and just explore a little outside? I don’t want to be around the rotting carcasses for much longer in the cave. Besides, I would want to clear my head.”
Khell looked at Jasmine and nodded and whispered back.
“Just for a brief moment because if Vindao and Nuanni and Jake are going to be gone for a long time, we can’t be far from the cave in case someone does find out where we are hiding.”
Jasmine nodded and the two of them started walking slowly towards the exit as Jasmine looked over to the side of the cave and saw Angel standing by herself. She looked pretty upset that Vaalic took off, and Jasmine felt sorry for her. Jasmine did a small tug on Khell’s arm and he stopped and turned to look at her. Jasmine went up close to Khell and spoke in a hushed tone,
“Should we bring Angel along with us? I don’t want her to be left alone in the cave, and besides I think she would like some company.”
Khell looked at Jasmine and shrugged his shoulders.
“It’s up to you, I don’t mind.”
Jasmine walked towards Angel and tapped her lightly. Angel broke out of her train of thoughts and looked at Jasmine with a small smile.
“Do you want to go outside for a little while and clear your head? I’m sure you would want some companionship right now.”
Angel nodded but didn’t say a word. Jasmine turned to Vindao and spoke.
“The three of us are going to go outside for a breath of fresh air; we’ll be quick and return to the cave soon.”

As she finished talking, Jasmine, Khell, and Angel walked outside the cave and the stillness of the forest made Jasmine raise her guard and she was always looking around, watching her surroundings. She made sure she was close to Khell for a sense of security as they walked further away from the cave and further in the forest.

Hand in hand, Somber led Vaalic back to the cave. He knew Somber would have a difficult speech to give, as would he. She was obviously uncomfortable speaking to a group she hardly knew, as Jake was the only person she had come to know. There was nothing he could do to aid her in this, as he had a difficult task ahead of him as well. He needed to find some way to explain to her that he would be leaving again. He knew she would not take it well, but it was something he was committed to do. As they entered the cavern his hand left Somber’s and his eyes met the piercing stare of his wife. She knew what he was going to say before he was close enough to speak, and he could see her anger building by the clenching of her jaw and the look in her eyes. He hadn’t moved, a step and already she was walking away from the others so they could speak in private. As he caught up to her well away from anyone, she suddenly turned on him and he prepared himself for the verbal assault he knew was coming. Angel opened her mouth only to let a breath out... it was long and deep, and full of the frustration she was feeling.

“I don’t even have the words Vaalic. Just be careful. Come back to us... I know its what you feel you have to do. I just wish it was someone else you had to do it with.”

She let her mouth fall shut and reached up to him, letting all her anger out in a kiss deep and full of everything she was feeling, all her anger and all her love. When she released him his eyes were glazed with a sort of passion she hadn’t seem in him in years. As if to remind him of who she was to him, and who Somber wasn’t she slapped him square across the face, bringing him out of the warm reverie and back into the cold reality. “You remember where you belong.” The slap stung, but he welcomed it more than her anger. She had caught him off guard but he returned to his senses quickly. “I belong with you.”

He held her close and kissed her, returning his feelings of love they had felt a moment before. He had meant it as a goodbye, but he wanted to remain with her now more than ever. Suppressing his urge to stay here with her, he let go and turned away. She said nothing more as he left her in the shadows and joined Somber and Aramis.

Once outside he saw them in the darkness mumbling near an oak, he approached them, a broad smirk on his face. If there was nothing about his wife he loved more... he thought as he approached them. Somber was the first to see him, and at the look of him even she had to smile. "Fond farewell aye Vaalic?"

"Aye Somber very fond..." he was in arms reach now, and beneath the moon light Somber and Aramis could still see the mark of his wife on his face. Somber reached over to him covering the pink blotch with her hand. "oooh... Vaalic does it hurt very much..." she said, feeling a bit sorry for asking him to do this. "Nay m’lady... doesn't hurt at all."

They began the long hike back to the city. It was a much more difficult in the dark, but Aramis brought them unfalteringly through the rough pass. Vaalic was impressed in the way Aramis had taken them. He himself would have had trouble finding his way back in the dark, and Aramis had only been there this once. He brought them to a small inn, built along the road outside the city for travelers to rest for the night. It was hardly large enough to hold three rooms as best he could guess, but it was an easy place for weary travelers to rest for the night. Aramis entered the building with Vaalic close behind him. The light from the room seemed almost blindingly bright, and it took a moment for his eyes to adjust. The main room was small, but the fire was burning making the room relaxingly warm. As far as they could see the innkeeper had long since gone to sleep. Only one patron remained, sitting by the fire unaware of their arrival.
Amber eyes tinged with sleep
Awaken my burning soul
A seemless ending agony
A soul caught in purgatory
A dream lay half in sleep
Yet here in my eyes
Your darkness envelopes me--

Somber and Vaalic followed Aramis on their quest to find this weather man of such. Jake looked to the others and the owners of the cave in which he sat.
I have no ned to be here as of yet. I will watch over wondering group. Jake designed and followed them as they left.

Aramis led the group back to town through the black of night on a unmarked path. Jake was impressed with the boy and watched him closely. Jake's movment were silebt as he went from limb to limb of the over head trees. From time to time Aramis would stood and look back. He was picking up on Jake's movements, but not with his ears.

When they finally reached the tavern in which they rested. Jake made him self known and entered shortly after the rest had settled in the bar. Vaalic was wide eyed to Jake's appenece and Somber was almost confused as to where Jake came from. Aramis on the other hand was not surprised at all.

"What are you doing here Jake, you should be waiting at the cave." Vaalic said as Jake approched.

"I was bored, so I followed you to see this rain man for my self and other reasons. Do not worry about the others they are safe back at the cave."

Vaalic was not impressed with Jake bt said nothing more for Jake attention had moved to Aramis and moved over to talk with him.

"So boy, you have become quite the tracker? It is good to see you are finally listening to me."

"Jake you have been away so long, I have been waiting for mouths for you to come back." Aramis replied Jake.

"I am sorry Aramis, but your training will have to wait for not I am afraid. For there are much more going on in this world then can be handled at this moment. But we will continue after we settle this problem with the dragons."

"You talk as if this is going to be easy and quick" Vaalic butted in.
Jake took no notice to Vaalic and looked back to Aramis.

Jake could feel such power from this one, he will be great one day, so very great. Jake remembers back to when Mordac and himself dueled it out at the fall of Faith. If this boy if to become powerful he is to be trained. When Somber accepted Jake's offer almost a year ago. Arimas's skills had grown very quickly. It was almost frightning for Jake to see this sort of power grow in such a youth. Such power has only been seen in one other that Jake had meet through out his life. His rival and his friend.... Surrac Terra.... Dark One....

It was not normally like Strife to attend such functions when there was so many things he had to accomplish. His training was not yet complete and he had much paper work to catch up on. However, his adviser seemed to think that he needed a break from it all, even if only for a short while. Plus, Lady Morigan might be there. He could remember his adviser, Grendin, saying.

Strife still did not understand why Grendin seemed to want to place the two as friends. There was so much discord between them that it was almost like having deaf men playing violins only neither one of them knows the song and they have mistaken cats for their interments. But regardless, he forced himself to attend.

The ballroom was amazingly decorated with lush tapestries; the floor was marble, the columns, paintings, everything was a work of art. Strife took the time to admire every inch of the room as he slowly made his way through the hall. He never tired of his boot echoing off the marble floor and his cape flowed elegantly behind him has he proceeded on.

Strife carried himself with the utmost grace and beauteous demeanor. His physic was that of a well-built man. His muscles showed their definition through his clothing and seemed to ripple elegantly like that of a panther. He wore his color of choice, blue, with yellow trim, which accentuated and brought definition to his blue eyes.

He pauses for a moment as he overheard a man stumbling over his words to some near by ladies. The site brought a slight smile to his face, however he had no time to help him out, however, he thought that it might be best to check up with the guy later on... if he got around to it.

He made his way passed tables full of food: meats, breads, cakes, and the such. A waiter walked passed him caring drinks, which got Strife's attention. The man had not even gotten more then a few feet away when he noticed that one of the drinks on the tray was levitating its self away from the others and going in the opposite direction he was heading. Strife slowly reached out and grabbed the drink he had summoned and slowly nodded to the waiter as if to say thank you.

I do not know why I even bothered to attend. He began to think to himself as he glanced about the room looking at his company. Mostly well dressed men a women holding a high status in society. Exactly the kind of people I want to get away from... He downed the rest of his drink, took a deep breath and made his way toward the courtyard.

This trip would prove to be interesting. He had been sent to this area to gather information on a recent Dragon thret and was not sure how the rest of his stay would go. Needless to say he was getting a little tired of his surroundings and thought it best to make his leave. He excused himself from his approching company with a smile and left to begin his commute elsewhere... he had work to do.

Kits return

Postby Kitiara Mistletoe » Sat May 24, 2003 9:15 am

She wached the 3 leave the cave, one seemed to be carrying a small bundle, a child? she felt a familiarity to the group but could not say why, and unaware of who they might be she kept her spell of camoflage active. she followed them all for a time, she could here muffled voices, but was afraid to get to close, as anyone with magic that knew what to look for would see her. The elf must have sensed something he kept looking at her, growing more uneasy with every glance, causing tenseness in the woman next to him.

Kit moved in front of them still camoflaged to get a better look at the group.
Upon seeing Angel she lost her concentration and the spell dissapated,

They were caught off gaurd by her sudden apearence in front of them and instantly drew weapons, shielding Angel and the babe. Slowly the elf man
approached her, she removed her hood and put her arms out to show she meant no harm and had no weapons in her hands, if they took it wrong she was in trouble, for although she was great with a bow, she only knew basic self defense, she could barely wield a sword, and had no time to grab the daggers she kept in her boots.

Angel is that you? I mean no harm, I apologize for just appearing must have really frieghtened you.

The woman looked to Angel for the next move, if Angel did not recognize her, kit was in trouble.

Kit, Where have you been, so much has happened have you heard of the dragons? The Flurins have takin over the town.

the elf and the woman were starting to let their gaurds down, but were still tense.

Oh I'm sorry introductions are in order, Kit is an old friend she has traveled with us before, Kit this is Jasmine Eclipse, and Khellandros Amakiir, they are joining the resistence against the Florin forces

Merry meet all, I am Kitiara Mistletoe. It is a shame we have to meet under such conditions.

Angel let out a sigh of relief when Jasmine invited her with them, she hadn't known her long but she knew she was a person she could trust above all the others.

"Thank you Jasmine I would like a walk, I need to keep busy, and the babe just isn't cooperating." She notioned to the sleeping baby she held in her arms. She smiled against the torment she continued to feel after Vaalic had left and followed Jasmine and Khell out into the night. They walked in peace for a long while it seemed, Angel keeping a step or to back from the others, seeing rather than knowing that they had feelings for each other. Though apparently as their walk continued the two of them grew more tense with each other than easy, and Angel was begining to question her eyes. It wasn't until they drew their weapons at a cloaked figure in the distance that Angel began to understand. Khell approached the figure seemingly ready to behead it, she could see the figure moving slightly, but couldn't make out exactly what was going on. She was uterly confused, and begining to realize why Vaalic always left her behind, perhaps he truly did feel her safer, but in this case slavery to dragons had not been a safety option.

"Angel is that you? I mean no harm, I apologize for just appearing must have really frightened you." She heard her name and it brought her out of her thoughts and back to the cloaked figure. Moving closer a step or two, and another though not without warning from Jasmine, she smiled at her caring touch, though nodded at her, this voice was familiar. Approaching the figure she began to make out different features. It was indeed a woman, with dark hair and fair skin, and those eyes, they in themselves made her a rare beauty, those eyes she knew. Kitiara?

"Kit where have you been, so much has happened have you heard of the dragons? The Flurins have taken over the town." She took a breath realizing she was stuttering with her disbelief in seeing her here. She heard rather than saw the two sheath their swords, she couldn't keep her eyes or her disbelief off of Kit.

"Oh I am sorry introductions are in order, Kit is an old friend she has traveled with us before, Kit this is Jasmine Eclipse and Khellandros Amakiir, they are joining the resistance against the Florin forces."

"Merry meet all, I am Kitiara Mistletoe. It is a shame we have to meet under such circumstances."

Disregarding her disbelief she embraced Kit with warm welcome. "When was the last time you have eaten, you look dreadfully thin. Where have you been all this time we thought you lost?" She took Kitiara by the hand and started to lead her back to the cave. "Please come we have so much to talk about.." She led Kit passed Jasmine and Khell, appreciating their hospitality but feeling they would much more enjoy each others company this night, none knew what the next would carry. Though Jasmine went to follow Angel motioned for her to stay and enjoy herself as best she could.

Upon returning to the cave Angel felt the warmth of the lamp lights that Aramis had brought, and the eyes of the dragon rider, though not his dragon, and wondered for a brief second where she might be.. Bringing Kitiara to the dieing embers that had once been a fire she placed one of her blankets on the ground and motioned for Kit to sit. Then she went and put the babe tightened his binding and lay him for the night next to her pallat. Then returned and sat preparing a hot dinner for Kitiara and herself. She saw Vindao in the distance and made a point to remember to ask him if he would like some of cured beef and oat cakes.

"So much has happened, I feel so lost here, though it beats the slavery that has taken over Freeport, Im afraid most all the time, and Vaalic he's most never here. I'm rambling I'm sorry. I don't know all the details of what has happened and why we fight, but I do know that is what we do.. as always we fight... or rather I hide." Angel blushed a bit realizing its truth.. but isn't that the way its supposed to be? "But anyway, Vaalic and Somber will be returning with someone who can change the tides for this fight, they should be here sometime tomorrow, they will be able to answer your questions. It's good to have you here." She took a deep breath not realizing she said that in two and laughed. "I'm sorry.. Sometimes I just can't stop myself. So what brought you here Kit, searching for adventure??"

She thought for a moment as to how to reply, it seemed ages had passed though she knew it hadnt been that long

After we parted ways the last time i went back to my home, back to what remained of the druid village i was raised in, I worked to retrain myself in thier ways, the ways of healing and protection. I felt so lost during our last journey, i should have been able to do so much more, i felt as if i was more of a hinderance then anything. i still no little of self defense, other then my bow, and of course what Jake had shown my of sword play

Jake, the name took her away, she had tried to forget about him, tried to block him out, she had hoped she would get over him, she had left him behind, but here and now seeing Angel again, the memories flooded back

Kit shook her head, and looked around, Angel looked concern, she smiled reassuringly at Angel and continued.

I came back becuase I felt the disturbance, I felt the pain and anger of the people. I didn"t know what was going on, I just knew that something was wrong. I had to come back. Enough about me, how is everyone else, Have they all come back?

She wanted to ask of Jake, hoping he was there, but at the same time, wishing he'd moved on with his life and found the happiness he so deserved. She was afraid to see him, afraid of how he might react, what if he moved on, would she be with him?

she finished her dinner and thanked Angel for her generosity and the blanket, but she needed to go for a walk, she neede to clear her thoughts and prepare herself for the battle to come, and for the possibility of seeing Jake again

Getting up from the fire she silently spoke the words and set a protection spell over the cave and its occupants, once again chosing to be invisible she focused oon her apperence, slowly she dissappeared from the ground up, she climbed a tree at the edge of the clearing and set up watch, still mulling over what the morning would bring

Jake had now found himself at a table with every one else drinking soup and eating bread, served by the inn keepers. Aramis continually talking to Jake about what he had learnt while he Jake was away.
Vaalic and the others talked to each other. Jake did not really feel like he was talking to them, nor feel like he was listening to Aramis instead he searched his mind for peace. To calm his body and mind he thought of only one thing....

The moment he gave his powers to Kitiara agents the Lizard man and was on the brink of death, her being... It all brought him back to a calmness that was so pure that not even the heat of battle could intrude.

Jake had never given his power to another in such a way. And as he thouht of her face.... A flash struck him and he jumped almost falling out of his seat. As if awaking from a dream.

"Whats wrong Jake?" Somber asked.

"I sense powerful magics.... or could it be?? No... but wait...."

Jake mumbled to him self as he trailed off his mind was away with thoughts and trying to come clear as to what nature this new found power was that was so fimillar.

Jake suddenly felt the building standing out side trying seek out who or what it was the made Jake feel so deep.
Her face came clear, then her form and her surroundings. Kitiara was in a tree near the cave.

"She has retruned.... I can not be weak now........."

And with that guesture he raised his emotions and gave them form in a rush of energy, like heat waves. Clear but visable. The ground cracked beneith his feet as he raised his hands to the night sky. The stone walkway he stood on now gave way and his feet sunk slightly into the ground.

A grin passed over his pale face and he returned to the warmth of the tavern....

Sitting behind the desk of the former Governor of Freeport, he began to write a letter. He was pleased in the decision the city had made in surrendering. There was nothing they could have done to stop him, but at least there was a building left standing for him to call his own. It had not been long since the control of the city was given to him. The governor was now locked in the dungeon where he could not work against the empire. General Ruakha needed to write a letter and inform his superiors of their success. He was nearly finished when one of his Knights burst through the door, causing him to spill the ink and ruin the letter. Irritated he looked up.
"This had better be important."
Seeing the angered look of his General the Dragon Knight hesitated a moment before straightening his stance and clearing his throat.
"It is M'Lord. It is our scouts... we have found them."
"Of course you have. Where are they?"
"They are dead M'Lord. I found their corpses in a forest. A tree, Sir, had impaled one. The rest had died where they fell."
Leaning back on his chair, he began to think.
"They were all there?"
"Yes General, all have been accounted for."
"Impaled? They must have fallen from the sky. Did you see the bodies from close?"
"Of course General, I landed to inspect them. It looks like they were killed by a dragon."
"A Dragon? Then it must be the traitors. Send out..."
"Sir, I do not believe it was the traitors."
"You don't do you? And may I ask who it was then?"
"The wounds on the dragons were larger than could be possible for a dragon the size she was. I have read the report on the traitors, and a dragon much larger than the one who left us killed your scouts. It is another dragon in the area, sir. That I am sure of."
"Interesting." Taking another piece of parchment he quickly wrote out his orders, and sealed it with his seal of power. "Take this. These are your orders. Now leave me."
Saluting, the Knight turned to leave.
"One more thing."
Turning back around the Knight waited for further orders.
"What news of their Queen? Have we found her yet?"
"Not yet, General. We are still searching."
"Very well. Inform me when she is captured. Continue about your duties."
With another salute, the Knight turned and left. The news he had brought was indeed important enough for the interruption. Tearing the parchment of his ruined letter in two, he began to feed the pieces to the candle's flame. Drawing another piece he began to write again. His superiors would need to be informed of the progress he was making.

They seated themselves at a table as the innkeeper came out to greet them. Each ordered something to eat. Vaalic was not yet hungry, though he hadn't eaten in some time, but he ordered nonetheless. Jake began to speak with Aramis as both Vaalic and Somber sized up the lone man sitting by the fire. Aramis had indicated that this was the man they seek. Getting up from his seat, Vaalic walked over to him.
"Good evening. My name is Vaalic Demonshire. May I have a word with you?"
The man nodded and Vaalic took a seat. There was no time to waste, so he moved straight to his point.
"I have come in search of the Weather Bringer. Are you he?"
Vaalic waited tensely as the silence came after the question.

Nuanni had waited while Vindao talked with Aramis. She knew what his task was and she approved. It would be more difficult than Vindao had let on, but it would defiantly be a test of the young boy's skills. It did not take long before all had left the cave, and she was once again alone with Vindao. The night was cool and only a light breeze could be felt. She wanted to soar above the clouds, but she had other matters on her mind.
"I will be back shortly."
"What do you plan to do?"
"The Dragon scouts have arrived, and a ground force will not be far behind. If I can find them we will know how long until their arrival."
"Shall I come with you?"
"Stay here, I will not be long. It will take too long to attach the harness."
"Of course. I will be here when you return."

Nuanni gracefully moved into the clearing outside the cave. She looked back inside to see Vindao preparing to sharpen his sword. With a few beats of her wings she took flight, lifting he body above the treetops and into the open air above. She rose higher than the few clouds in the night sky, but suddenly stopped as she seen something unusual on the horizon. It took only a moment before she was heading in that direction to get a better look. When she was finally able to make out what it was, she could see a marching column. The ground force was much closer than she had expected. From what she could see it was still moving, showing no signs of stopping for the night. If they continued at that pace they would arrive in the city well before sunrise. The force was almost a thousand strong, which combined with the aid of dragons, was more than enough to keep this city under their control. With this city secured they would have an excellent fortification to send more troops, which would eventually be sent to conquer the rest of the Kingdom.

Circling around, Nuanni prepared to head back to inform her rider what she had learned. As she was coming around she saw from the corner of her eye a figure towards her. There was no question that it was one of the dragon scouts. She was not worried, but would not do battle without Vindao, unless of course she had no other choice. She began her decent, and was somewhat disappointed to see that the other dragon would not give chase. She waited until she was confident the dragon had left before she returned to the cave to give her report.

The silence lasted uncomfortably long without any sign of a response. This man was abviously suspicious of who Vaalic was and what he was after.

"Let me explain. As I'm sure you know the Dragons have attacked this Kingdom, taking Freeport for their own. I am here with the Queen of Faith Hills to ask for your aid in our time of need. A sorcerer with your talents would be of great aid in our fight against the dragons. Would you be willing to join our cause?"

Strife sat silently by the fire side lost in his meditations. The heat from the fire warmed his features and the sound soothed his nerves, but all things must eventually come to an end.

"Good evening. My name is Vaalic Demonshire. May I have a word with you?"

The man nodded and Vaalic took a seat. There was no time to waste, so he moved straight to his point.

"I have come in search of the Weather Bringer. Are you he?"

Strife looked at this man, Vaalic, without word. He had not been in this land long and it struck him as odd that someone was aware of his arrival. There were many that were a threat to him and he was no one to trust another so easily.

A slight sign of interest came over Strife’s face. … I see… Strife stated coolly Forgive me for my uncertainty of your intentions but I’m sure you can understand why I am so cautious. he began to look around the room slowly. Unfamiliar surroundings can do that to a person I guess. He paused before extending a hand to Vaalic.

"One can never be too careful when making acquaintances. I assure you we come as friend, not foe." Vaalic accepted the hand that Strife had put forward, at first the shake was a bit stiff, but when they released it seemed as though the tension between them was slowly ebbing. He broke eye contact for a moment, noticing Somber staring at him from her seat behind Strife. "Ahh, allow me to introduce Somber Nights.." Somber gave him a friendly nod when he turned his head to see who Vaalic motioned towards, and extended her hand in greeting. Lowering his voice he continued, "this is our Queen...her identity is as secret as yours, if you understand." She took a seat next to Vaalic nearer to the fire, so the three could talk in privacy.

"Strife if I may?" she questioned out of politeness and took her seat. "I know it is hard for you not to see the circumstances my people have fallen under. I ask this not for myself but for my people, without your aid I am afraid our cause will fail." She spoke to him for moments utter determination stripped across her face. Describing to him, her efforts of the past and those they would strive for into the future, should peace ever come to her Kingdom. She continued to tell him of the others that have joined their efforts, of Silver Bahamut, Jasmine Eclipse, Jake who himself was seated behind them his nose deep in brew while he spoke with her son, and of Khell and Vindao the dragon rider and Nuanni his mount, who though reluctant, would help them, of her own son Arimas who would do what he could to aid them. He listened with curiosity, watching as her expressions changed as she described each of her comrades, even those she did not know well she spoke of them highly regarding each as friends. At that moment her concentration was broken as the son she just spoke of came upon her, bidding his good-bye duties of his own needing to be taken care of, and thus the conversation continued, Somber and Vaalic doing what they could to convince Strife to join their cause against their most recent invader. The night was growing long, their tankards run dry, they sat waiting as Strife pondered their words watching the fire die before them. In her heart Somber knew they would win, she knew he would join them.

**

Arimas having bid his mother fair well, left the tavern and turned down the road returning to Freeport. “Three times in two days...” He thought to himself, this trip was becoming tedious even for him. In less than three hours time he was standing on its borders, looking at the buildings stretched out before him, in this place he felt like he was home. Then he remembered the intruders and watched as the sentries walked the streets, within a days time the security had increased nearly double. Walking the streets would be entirely to dangerous, without a thought he climbed a nearby tree, nearly to its top, crossing one of its branches, he grooved his fingers between the straw of the thatched roof before him pulling himself onto it. He could see the moon shining brightly above the city, and cursed himself for the lack of darkness, praying silently that one of the dragon riders would not see him. He moved swiftly and silently trying to avoid detection as he crossed over the roofs. He could see the Governor’s Hall rising above the row of homes he now perched on, its cool stone a stark difference to the wooden buildings that surrounded it. He knew just where he was going, being more than once summoned to the Governor’s chambers, as a prince of Faith though, not a thief. The room he aimed for was on the second floor, convenient with him being at this level. Should the balcony doors of his suite be unlocked, he could gain entrance with little effort. Much as he thought, for one being so smart, he was apparently either dumb, or unafraid. Arimas had his bet on dumb. Opening the glass pained doors he walked seemingly undiscovered into the General’s chambers. On his desk was the item in question, just lying upon a sheet of paper, hot wax crusted around its outer edges. Of what importance this ‘seal’ had he didn’t know, but apparently Vindao seemed it important enough to send him here to retrieve it. His mission complete, he simply turned to leave, noticing on his way out the chest in which he knew held the master keys to every lock in Freeport, his face contorted into a mischievous grin, which with ease he picked the lock on the chest, retrieving the ring of keys. “Yeah stupid..” he said to himself with quiet gratification.

“Stupid Aye?” the rough voice broke in behind him, Arimas did not have to turn to see whom it was, it could only be one person.

“General Rhuaka I presume.” He turned slowly to see the man he so badly at that moment wanted to kill, though knowing deep down that this would solve nothing.

“And you would be..” His question went unanswered, Rhuaka’s face beamed with anger, over the ignorance and more so over the intrusion.

“None of your concern sir.” Arimas muttered finally through clenched teeth. “If you do not mind, I really must be on my way.” Arimas reached for the handle of the door, ready to open it and make his escape, though stupid the General was, Arimas did not doubt that he was blood thirsty as well.

“You see boy... truly I DO mind.. If you had not noticed you have taken something of mine, and where I know you intend to leave with your prize, I would much rather see you dead.” Arimas could hear rather than see the man withdraw his sword... and where Arimas was of course stealthy and quick on his feet, he was no swordsman, and his talent was not nearly developed enough to take on a trained swordsman, his mind whirled around the possibilities all ending with his death, or apparent capture. He would have to take his chances. Rhuaka took a step forward.. “Face me boy, I do not wish to strike you through the back, that is just not honorable.”

“Honorable..” Arimas slowly turned to face him.. “You DARE speak of Honor Sir? You feel this.. HONORFUL..” Anger was growing inside of him, he became unpredictable in times like these, not even he could tell what would happen. Behind him the doors swung open with ferocity, glass breaking, bringing attention from below. The General was momentarily thrown off guard by his display.. Though regained himself in time to respond to Arimas ..“GOOD DAY SIR.”

“Yes good day...... Be sure to tell your friends not to struggle, there will be no point you see.. My Sentries are nearly there..” he laughed to himself.. “You may be lucky to find a survivor my boy.” Arimas lost control, turning suddenly back to Rhuaka his eyes glowing with anger and fear, no notion was made but an unseen force threw him back pinning him to the wall, clawing at his throat in a poor attempt to free himself.

“For your sake I hope you are wrong.” Arimas jumped from the second story balcony, landing on a near by roof, slipping he fell to the ground below, with no notion of guards or dragons, he ran, with all he the strength he had left, the only thought in his mind was his mother, and the danger that was comming.

Khell stood with Jasmine with no others around. He was more comfortable here in the forest than in the city and he was pleased to be back in the wilderness once more. Once Kitiara and Angel left for the cave, Khell continued walking with Jasmine. As they walked they didn't say much at first. His thoughts were torn. He was thinking of what was to come, why he was here and above all why he so enjoyed spending time with this woman he still hardly knew. His first thought was the most troubling. They were asked to find defenses for the camp. What could they possibly do to defend against dragons? If they were discovered any preparation they could make would fail to help them. The best thing they could do would be run, and hide in the forest. That didn't seem like a plan constructed by a master strategist, but it was the only thing Khell could think of doing. They continued to walk without any conversation for quite some time. It was growing late, but Khell did not wish to return quite yet. Instead he stopped their walking when they came to a small clearing of trees. Jasmine looked at him questioningly but he just took a seat on the soft grass, motioning for her to sit as well. She waited a moment before she sat down beside him.
"Has anyone ever told you the story of the stars?"
She didn't answer for a moment, caught a little off guard by the unexpected topic.
"No, never."
"Would you like to hear it?"
"Sure..."
He could see that she was still questioning what had brought him to this subject, but she seemed interested, so he continued. They both laid back, looking up at the stars. The clearing kept the canopy of trees from blocking their view of the sky. Khell had learned the story of the stars when he was young, but it was always one he enjoyed. The story explained how the elves believed the gods came to be, and what significance each grouping of stars held. The story was not short, and he hoped she would not lose interest. As he began to speak he watched her reactions as he told the story.

Gliding through the air, Nuanni slowed herself as she came upon the clearing to the cave. As she landed Vindao walked out to greet her. She moved herself out of the clearing and into the cave's entrance.
"I have found them. Their soldiers are nearly a thousand strong, and they will be entering the city tonight. They have arrived much sooner than we could have anticipated. I was also spotted by one of the dragon scouts, but they did not pursue me."
As if in answer to her last statement a large, dark figure flew overhead. There was no question it had been a dragon. The sense of danger was becoming dangerously real. No one spoke, or even took a breath. The dragon did not stop, but continued to fly around, until finally it left, heading back to the city. Once they were sure it was gone Angel walked close to Nuanni, trying to hide the anger in her voice.
"You said you were not followed!"
"I am not mistaken. There must have been a second scout that was hidden from my sight... That must be why they never pursued me as I thought they would."
"Did they see us?"
There was a short silence, as everyone looked from one to the other for the answer.
"They may have... or they overlooked our presence. It is difficult to say. If they had seen us they will want us alive. Else they would have attacked and burnt this part of the forest down around our heads. It would be safest to leave this place and find another area to hide."
"We cannot leave! Vaalic and the others have not yet returned. If we are gone when they return what will they think?"
Neither the dragon nor her rider liked what Angel had to say. She was not thinking with her head. She thought of her husband before herself, and that would likely get them all killed.
"If we remain and they come for us, what would he think when he found your body upon his return? We must leave here now and find them once we're safe."
"Go if you must, but I will not abandon my husband."
Looking around, Angel was looking for someone... anyone to take her side against the intimidating warrior and dragon. They had an important decision to make very quickly. Would they stay or leave. The consequences of the wrong choice would be severe, as they all knew.
The harder you train, the harder it is to surrender.

As Jasmine was lying on the ground, she looked in the clearing in the trees and noticed that the sky was filled with stars that shun like diamonds. Jasmine never remembered seeing the sky looking so beautiful at night, since for the longest time she never had a chance to slow down and relax. Jasmine turned towards Khell as he started telling a story of the stars. That subject caught Jasmine off guard when Khell suggested it because she never expected him to say such a thing and she wondered what made him think of it. Yet, Jasmine was really interested to what he had to say. Jasmine laid there in silence and stared into Khell’s eyes the whole duration of the story, focusing all her attention on him. After several minutes, Khell finished telling his story, and Jasmine reflected on what he said. Jasmine smiled and looked at Khell, he seemed to be studying her and to see she liked it or not. Jasmine turned up and looked up to the stars again.
“Wow, I never knew that the stars had such significance. Where did you hear this from?”
Khell appeared to be relieved and smiled.
“I was told it a long time ago when I was young. I always enjoyed listening to that story so I thought I’d share it with you too.”
“It was great, you know any other stories?”
Khell shook his head,
“No, none that I can recall at the moment. I’ll let you know if I do.”

Jasmine felt closer and more comfortable with Khell right there, even though she didn’t know him that well. Yet, she felt like she can trust him and felt safe in his presence. They laid there in silence, just reflecting on the beauty that surrounded them; trying to forget the troubles that Freeport is encountering, and the fighting and slavery that is happening. Jasmine looked towards the direction of the cave and remembered about the others. She turned to face Khell and grabbed his arm lightly. He lightly jumped as she seemed to have scared him to some extent.
“I think we should head back to the cave. Everyone should be back and things should be getting planned out at this moment.”
Khell nodded his head and he stood up, brushing the grass off him. Jasmine did the same and took Khell’s side. They walked towards the cave and went inside. Vaalic and Somber had not returned yet, but everyone else was grouped around, completely silent. It appeared as if something had happened, as tension was high. Jasmine took a step in closer and had a concern look on her face.
“We’re back now, should we start preparing our defenses now?”
The rider and dragon just looked at her, but didn’t say a word. Jasmine looked at Angel who appeared to be really upset.
“What happened here is something wrong?”

The rider cleared his throat and spoke.
“Yes, a dragon just flew overhead over our cave. We believe that they know where we are at the moment, so it’s not safe to be here.”
Angel had a scowl on her face.
“I am not leaving without my husband, I’m staying here.”
Jasmine turned to the rider, who was watching her every move.
“Are you sure they saw us? Maybe he just was flying past and didn’t notice us.”
“We don’t want to take the chance; we must go right now and find another place to hide.”
Jasmine didn’t like how the situation was right now. Angel didn’t move at all and still refused to go anywhere. She felt sorry for Angel and the position she was in, but Jasmine understood what she was feeling.
“I think we should stay here until the others arrive, it’s not fair to them to come back to an empty cave when it’s possible that we weren’t spotted.”
Jasmine looked towards the group, watching them.
“What does everyone want to do?”

"It may not be fair but what chance will they have if we are captured as well.. We MUST think of everyone, not just ourselves." Vindao tried hard to make his point. He knew if it came down to it he could either force them to leave or leave without them...The thought tore at him he did not need these people, they had needed him...right. "Lady think a moment, think of your child... you can not be so selfish." It was Nuanni who made this point, relayed through the dragon rider, but it still had the same effect. Angel looked to Jasmine, a questioning look in her eyes. She didn't know what to think now, in one comment all her arguments flew out the window. She grew frustrated quickly, not knowing now what to do. Vaalic popped into her mind, his pleas for her safety over and again, flooding her mind. He had always put her first, always pleaded and begged for her to go, or stay, what ever it would take to keep her safe, though it had not always worked, that had always been his intention.

"I don't know about any of you, but I know what Vaalic would have wanted, we know they search for Somber, she is a key they must have, we know if we are captured all may as well be lost, for once they have us they will have them." Her face twisted with frustration and indescision. She turned from the group allowing them to discuss it upon themselves. She did not hear words spoken, but knew their minds were being made. In her mind she tossed ideas, if they did know they were here, they would come and either find us or find them or possibly both. She dispised this answer, but it wasn't for herself that she decided.

"I will go.." she says, though not believing her own voice... Jasmine looked questioningly at her. Khell could not understand either. "Only if we can give them warning... If they return and we are not here, one of two things will happen, they will be captured,or they will think we have been captured. If that happens Vaalic will come for me, and that will lead them both into Freeport unnessasarily. I am losing hope in all of this, but I will go if we can for warn them. Do you have any ideas?"

Khell listened to the arguments between the others, but said nothing. It was not his choice to make, though he felt leaving the others would be the wrong thing to do. In the end Angel had agreed to leave, but only if her husband and the others could be shown that they were safe.

"It will be difficult to warn them. If we leave clues as to where we have gone we will be no safer than we are now. If the enemy arrives before them we will be giving away where we are going, and they will come for us there. It would also show them that there are others who will be returning.

I have an idea. If I remain here, hidded in the trees, I can wait for their return. If the enemy arrives before them I will remain hidden and let them pass. If the others arrive I will greet them, then follow your trail to wherever you have gone. I believe that would be safer than trying to leave a message for them. Does anyone object to this?"

Is Jake with them?

she watched as they all turned to face her, standing in the entrance to the cave Kit had merely been watching and listening. She had been gone from the group too long and did not know if they wanted her opinion or not but they were all in danger, and leaving someone behind, anyone was not what they needed. they needed all the help they could get, and she was not willing to sacrifice anyone of them.

Is Jake with them?

She repeated, noticing the looks on there faces, they couldnt understand what that had to do with the situation at hand, drawing a deep breath Kit began to explain her reasoning.

I believe I can communicate with Jake, I can feel him, ever since.... I can feel his prescence, I believe he knows I'm here. If we all leave i might be able to get through to Jake, at least to let him know we've moved on but we're safe. I felt his surprise when I arrived at camp, I can feel his emotions, if I try, and I think in turn, I can relate the same to him. I've done it before with animals, no real words but the feelings, I believe it would be better then leaving anyone behind.

She watched thier faces, hoping they understood, hoping she would be able to do what she had just proposed, but she had felt Jake, and between his gifts and hers there should be no reason why she couldnt make the connection more then just a feeling, all she had to do was concentrate, and she could contact him, at least she hoped so. And why wouldnt it work, since she had left shed learned how to see through the eyes of the animals shed come in contact with, it was handy when scouting ahead, she could see what they saw, more important she could feel what they were feeling, through thier senses, danger, calm, love. Why couldnt she use it on someone, especially some one like Jake, there was a link there.
