DEUS EX MACHINA (DEM)

Now that you know what DEM is all about, let's talk specifics. You already know that we will accept almost all applications, but what terms must be met?

1. I need your time. How much you're willing to give will decide your placement in the guild. I will accept those that at a bare minimum can log in every other day. Weekends off are acceptable, for those who play from work - but 'active' players is the most desired.

2. You need to have some way to be contacted. If you never respond to scribe, whatever.. you may be booted!

3. A good attitude. Your kingdom will be destroyed. Yes, it will happen, and it will happen often. You will feel that you aren’t being treated fairly, or your complaints are being ignored. While in Deus Ex Machina the system has been set up to minimize this, it still happens. Grin and bear it. I have an open door policy, come talk to me if you feel this sort of thing is getting out of hand.

4. If you're new, we'll teach you how to do what we ask you to, and we'll be very patient with you. But you have to do it, even if you think what you already know is a better way of doing it. The reason why is that sometimes I see the bigger picture or am working toward a goal, this I will share with you I don't believe in keeping our players in the dark. That's my job. Why am I purposely allowing your kingdom to be destroyed? Because of something else going on - like you're acting as a distraction, or maybe I think it's strategically better sound not to respond. You have chosen me as your leader, now allow me to do my job. I will not always be able to explain things to you.

Q. So, uh.. the GM isn't around. Now what?

A. If you're new, contact whoever is online. If no one is online, defend yourself but take no offensive action against any guild. If it's UG, do as you please.

A. If the GM vanishes, even for a second, anyone with rank 3 or higher may take over the guild. We are mature players here. This will not change unless there are problem.

Q. HELP! I've been attacked! HEEELP!

A. Calm down. Report it via scribe. If it's UG, go ahead and kill it if you can, or request help. If it's guilded, take no action except forting up, and report it to 'entire guild' via scribe.

Some untold time ago, in the age of Jake Talahan's great, great grandfather many times removed, there lived a people. These inhabitants were not especially advanced in speech or culture, at least no more then average. What they did excel in is the art of building.

It was their passion to create, and so they did. Material was quarried not out of lime or more conventional substances, but rather volcanic rock. They also used ash to form primitive cement that nevertheless was quite effective and strong. From this, bridges and roads were made, churches and homes. The landscape became gray and black, and it became tradition to lay a polished marble upon the richest homes and public structures.

After many centuries, their time came to pass. The volcano near their home rumbled many times, and at last spewed out darkness that blocked the sun. The peoples were forced to move, and in time the land which they called their home became overgrown with forest, dirt and an under layer of soot from so long ago.

It was the top of the largest tower that Jake's great-grandfather found, traveling one day alone for a ride. Curious, he ordered it evacuated, and over the course of his life became fascinated with the various runes and symbols that he discovered. None of it had a magical origin, but to learn about a peoples long past was truly gratifying for the man.

Over the next few generations, the tower and surrounding properties were slowly unearthed. In more recent times, the era of Jake's father, meetings were held there by Angelique faithful, who bucked against the local rule of Leto.

It was there that Deus Ex Machina was first formed, a secretive name made up by the local people and slowly gaining alliances. In the black halls of this hidden temple, prayers to Angelique were made, and plans to overthrow Leto's power in the region were made.

Finally, we come to Jake Talahan, a mere child when the armies of Deus Ex Machina first formed. With justice, and faith in hand, the secretive black uniforms of DEM overthrew the oppressive armies controlling their peoples. As Jake grew, his father taught him to lead them, and maneuvered in his life to boost their numbers.

As it stands now, the headquarters of Deus Ex Machina still remain at the infamous black tower. Undiscovered yet by the enemy, they plot and whisper plans, and Jake Talahan stands as their leader.
