“Ah! Greetings! Greetings! Is this not the most beautiful day you have ever seen!?! No? Trivial matter. Who am I? Ah, my apologies, good sirs and madam! I am Gibbs Tattleskin, travelling bard, escape artist and on this most beeeautiful day, and most beautiful it is, your guide to Sir Melldrin’s castle!

What is it with the blank faces? Did you not after all, walk in here expecting to learn more about this most mysterious structure and it’s equally enigmatic occupants? Well you are in luck! For I am as qualified to lead you through it’s imposing gates as old Melldrin himself and then some! A tempting offer is it not? Well then, shall we begin? Good! Follow me!” And with that the strange little gnome flashed a shiny red gem to reveal a secret passageway next to him and confidently skipped through and out of sight. Mystified yet curious, you quickly followed him in and found him muttering to himself as he skipped down the dank stairs of the passageway.

“Where to first? Where to indeed! So much to show! So much to see! I know! This way!” shouting at you to hurry, the nifty being lead you through one dark passage after another silent corridor, all the while with the disquieting confidence that seems to prove his claim of familiarity.

Occasionally catching glimpse of figures through corridor windows dressed in contrasting finery and practicality, you nearly walked into an old man dressed in flowing robes and the most exquisite scabbard you had ever seen. Surprised at first, the man easily resumed his calm composure and acknowledged your apology with a nod. He seemed about to say something though when he noticed Gibbs rushing back to urge you once more, but thought better of it and merely let out a brief chuckle before continuing his original path. When asked who that was the gnome, for the first time since you met him, kept his answer simple and to the point, “That is one who haunts these halls. Now are you coming or not?” and he was running off again. Unconvinced, you followed him nevertheless.

Through another hallway, up another set of stairs and all of a sudden you are in a room substantially larger then even the castle itself. “The Lost Archives,” proudly proclaimed Gibbs, “Impressive sight isn’t it?” Grand and imposing, the massive room was divided into five levels, each filled with rows upon rows of scrolls and documents as far as the eye can see. Looking down into the ground level, you were shocked to find a most chaotic scene unfold before you. Silent individuals floating in to file their report before swiftly disappearing again, bored knights demanding a task worthy of their skills and expertise and thousands of scribes circulating among the scrolls and guests cataloging, identifying and recording.

Never were you expecting such a lively atmosphere in a place most outsiders believed to be of sadness and desolation. Could the legends be true, surely they were mere wives tales? Yet, here was prove before your very eyes, the prove that there is still hope, the prove you were secretly searching for. Slowly you closed your eyes to the revelation and recall the old stories and rumors.

This castle was all that remained of the knights of old, orders of knighthood that had lived and died by honour and justice. They had reverently followed the god Foret and protected the peace with the same nobility he had inspired in them, that is until Foret himself broke the very law they had lived by and drove the world into endless carnage.

Today the knights of old are all but disbanded, their modern day counterparts forming warlike sects to wage meaningless crusades in Foret’s name. The word ‘knight’ no longer holds the same respect it had in enemies as of old, merely fear in the hearts of the innocent.

Only one citadel had stood firm against this taint of injustice, so the rumors went, this fortress. The last stronghold the ancient times knights had flee to, lost and forgotten, left to fend for themselves now that their god had betrayed them and their sense of justice lost with him. How? The question inexplicably raised itself in your mind, How did they recover from all that they had lost?

Slowly opening your eyes, you found yourself suddenly staring at a half-burned parchment just lying there on a nearby table oddly uncluttered by scrolls and documents. Curious, you walked up to it, heart pounding, and began to read,

“…the Order of the Crimson Moon had finally arrived. They were badly lacking in numbers and bears distressing news for the council. It appears one of the new rogue groups had already begun the crusade as I had feared. Many souls will be lost before this foolishness is stopped. It would be darker times ahead indeed…”

“…the council of knights went no better then was expected once more. Trapped as we were by the sins of our deity and the justice we had sworn to uphold, we could only live in hope for Foret to repent and stop this chaos. Yet, we all knew deep in our hearts that until these wars are over, it would never be so. We are a lost and dwindling minority. Our discussions were pointless and disheartening, the end of the knights draws near…”

Startled by this tragic recount yet further mystified by the author’s conclusions and the contrasting results you had witnessed personally, you resumed your reading. The parchment clearly contained several recounts dating at different times, unfortunately a good deal of the middle content was too burnt for you to read.

“…thus was it decided, there is no other way. As we had done in desperate times long past so we shall do so in this time of need. The fellowships of Foret are over, only the alliance will remain. United as one we follow blindly not his malevolent commands but fight his enemies with honour and virtue in our dealings, with or without his support. He will remain our master however and we war for him until there is no one left to war with. This shall be so until the day he rules unopposed and peace is achieved. When that day comes however, the Lost Knights Alliance shall once more resume our titles of old and confront Foret himself with the sins he had committed. Exert his wrath at us he may but it shall pale in comparison to the justice we would restore. Only through such a move can we find the path we had lost and redeem ourselves in the eye of true virtue. This is not a path for glory, this is a path for justice and what is right.”

Placing the recount back on the table, you thoughtfully ponder the words and the emotions it had raised in you. Remembering where you are, it suddenly occurred to you that Gibbs hasn’t said a word since showing you this room. Looking around puzzled now, you are surprised to find the little gnome no where to be found before realisation dawned.

His job was to reveal to you this world and it’s purpose. This he had accomplished and the gnome was no longer required.

The rest now rests with you.

Rules

Ranking Structure

Grand Master (GM) – An alliance needs individuals to lead it. The Grand Masters are they. GMs have the final say in all decisions.

1st Advisor (AGM) – Senior among the AGMs, a highly respected individual, 1st advisors are usually ex-GMs or AGMs who have decided to help run the guild from a less time-intensive role.

High Chancellors(AGM) – Assists the GMs in the running of the guild, each chancellor have a specific role and area of expertise (eg. overseeing the scummers, planning war strikes). Unless a GM or AGM states otherwise, their orders are to be followed to the latter.

Senior Knight(Officer) – Squadleader, crafted and experienced. The only reasons why they aren’t High Chancellors is because there’re no vacancies or they are too lazy to take up the mantle ;)

Knight(Member) – Trusted veterans and crux of the guild. The majority of members lies in this category.

Initiate(Recruit) - New members to the guild. The rate at which they ascend the ladder relies upon how active him/or her is, how well they communicate and their longevity. If you are new you get 2 weeks to prove your worth as an initiate.

Should the GM miraculously disappear… The Guild’s Command (AGMs) will vote on who their successor/s will be. Until that process is completed, the 1st Advisor will takeover the position for the duration.

Promotion
Promotion is given by the GMs when the individual had proven themselves to them in some way (eg. constant participation, been active, communicates well). Recommendations by other members of the guild will also be taken into consideration. It is important to realize that an active person with a willingness to learn is prized more then one who is skilled but inactive most of the time.
