ooc: A old story I been wanting to finish, Will go over posts here when done with the story, to correct mistakes...(end/ooc)
High on a mountain peak, overlooking the vast expanse of the valley that sat in the middle of a mountainous region that cluttered the land around him with it's peaks, Owl waited. Sitting just under the cloud cover that seem stagnant in place as it hung about the mountain's summit, several thousand feet up. Owl could see the outer battlements and deffensive posts of the Keep, nestled in the valley of mountains adjoined to the one he was currently on, settled in at its base and well fortified. It was in this valley that he knew Mistress Harmony Dungeons were kept. He noticed the shadows of the gathering clouds spread out across the spectrum of his view. Grey cumulus clouds that seemed to cast their shadows as dark wraiths creeping over the landscape, creating an almost serreal and transfixed affect in Owl that left him at ease. The calm before the storm he thought to himself. Winds fierce and furious, and as cold and dreary as they could possible get, swept across the mountains. They tore at his face causing Owl to pull his light Ranger cape close. Drawing the strings to his hood tight as he could, Owl drew his clothes to his body wrapping himself up in a attempt to fend off the elements.
Looking over Owl's shoulder, Frank loomed as only a creature of death would. Dressed in a bunny suit Frank's appearance was frightening. It had caused many a man to underestimate his friend, one of the leading factors which lead to their deaths. Owl had never asked Frank about his costume of choice, knowing he would tell him someday when he was ready. Until then he was comforted in his alliance with him and never questioned the bond they shared or the path that lead them to the future together. A tormented wraith who chose to follow Owl with the hope that he would one day be set free and be released of the madness that he eternally dwells in. He clung to that hope as it was promised so many years ago by a Dark Prophet. An average man couldn't keep his gaze upon Frank for very long. Silent and deadly, a solidary creature of the dark, able to melt into the shadows as only a shadow could. He emitted a radiance of death that fouled the air all around him. It could make your hairs stand on their very ends, put a uneasy feeling deep in your gut, and deep down in the very core of your bones.Owl could smell his evil, there was no mistaking the stench.
They stood there looking down into the valley towards Mistress Harmony's lair. This was the path they would take in a few short hours. When the moon revealed itself and came to hang high in its starry bed was when they planned to set out. The sun had risen to break over the mountains tops and valleys as they splayed under it's always undenieable pressence, trying to filter through the clouds to burn warmth into the warmless world that Owl found himself in. Currently it was climbing to its noon position in the increasingly cloudy sky. Having arrived here early that morning Owl and Frank waited patiently for night to fall and their descent to begin. There was nothing to do now but wait.
Owl always being on the alert, threw out what little magic he posessed in an attempt to seek out any troops or scouts that he knew Mistress Harmony would have prowling these mountains. Her Wolves, as she called them, were always kept circling her keep. He could detect no-one, or rather no-one was near enough for him to detect. He only cast out his probes about once an hour in order to conserve his magic and his strength. Being half changeling and half elf, the magic alotted to him as a changeling tended to conflict with his elven half, thus draining him everytime he used it. Over the years he had learned how to pace himself in its use, honning his abilty to wield it. The only time the use of his magic didn't drain him was when he took on a full Owl form. Even turning into his half Owl and half man form didn't drain him as much as using the other aspects of power he was born into. He always thought that it was because "The Owl" in him was true to his nature, being his spirit animal. It was a magic he could call forth at will never the less, when needed. He thought to himself of all the times his birthright was needed to be called upon. Too many times. He shook his head at the thought.
"Too many times" a repeated whisper escaped from his lips.
A whisper that seemed to form and escape his mouth as if the words formed themselves and possesed a will of their own...
Looking around the small clearing he found himself nestled in at the moment on the cliffs edge, he noticed Frank was gone. If Owl knew Frank, and he did better than any alive, he was taking the oportunity to scout ahead. Trying to find the easiest and safest route down to Mistress Harmony's keep. A route that would get them through unseen. He knew Frank would be back when the time they planned to set out drew near. Owl was confident in Frank's abilities and the uncanny power of stealth he possesed. He tried not to let the fact that Frank had managed to fade off unnoticed effect him too much. He sat biting his lip as the thought mocked him.
From the drop off of the cliff he looked out across at his vast surroundings. He found himself admiring the beauty of the scenery that spread out in front of him, a view of stone and mountain peaks and cloudy sky. He couldn't help but wonder if the current adventure he had decided to undertake would allow him to gaze upon such beauty again, knowing full well that it could be his last. All it would take was one mistake and Mistress Harmony would pounce on him like a droden bear on a wounded rabbit radiating the sent of blood. The thought made owl shift nervously. It also gave him justification to go through the plan yet again, no matter how many times he and Frank had went over it already...
All that was needed now, for what he had in store, was time. And Owl had plenty of that. He was in no rush to piss Mistress Harmony off or to get himself killed in the process of his plan. He remained there looking out across the expance to where he knew fate was looking back, with it's arogant smirk, tempting him on...
Owl smirked back defiantly and spit off the cliff shelf. Then he stood, watching it descend. It went racing down along the cliff wall, getting smaller with distance. Then it disapeared into the green covered tree tops that formed the canopy way below..
