Going only by the title, is the story based upon the Battletech universe designed by FASA?

Not really Grizz, although it was part of the inspiration.
The Main Inspiration was a new Minatures game by Wizkids, (The makers of Mageknight) called Mech Warrior, the dark age.

You can check it out at http://www.wizkidsgames.com/mwdarkage/

Just kinda shooting from the hip on this though, I may use the actual mech names and configurations as the story progresses.
Think I should?

I had heard about WizKids, and it is the same storyline. They have a very abbreviated history available on their website. Seems that after FASA went out of business, a variety of different companies bought up the various aspects of the game. Haven't seen the clicks miniatures in stores around here yet.

I myself have played the tabletop version of Battletech since the mid eighties and have tons of resources available to share.

With the timeline you have chosen though, 2132 humans are at the beginning of their exodus into space. In 2116 the first space colony outside of the Terran system is established in Tau Ceti IV. Battlemechs will not be invented until 2439.

Judging by the first bit of your story, somebody is about to salvage a damaged Battlemech, a better fit for this story would be between the period of 2785 - 3030, the Star League has fallen and Kerensky has taken the army out of know space (where they become the Clans). The 200+ years are marked by 4 massive intergalactic wars (called the Succession Wars). It is the dark ages of the universe for humans, as they begin to lose their technological advances; they forget how to make fusion engines and the massive interstellar drives. Since the technology has been forgotten, salvage becomes a huge part of life, several treaties a loosely worked out about not destroying certain technologies.

:D O boy! an Atlas for salvage! My 2nd favourite mech and favourite miniature!

Clubfoot...could this imply a badly damaged leg actuator? a leg blown off entirely? Heh guess I will have to wait.

I love the time period you have updated to, the height of salvage and medieval style warfare in the Inner Sphere, and it's years before all the SLDF tech gets re-introduced.

I must say that your thread has re-kindled my interest in a game that has lain dormant for years. In rummaging around I even found the story I wrote about one of the campaigns years ago (written of a typewriter!). I might post it, but it's really bad, but still a nice trip down memory lane for me.

I'm on pins and needles :)

I actually only recently got into Mechwarrior again. And I as well was hooked by the MechwarriorDW miniatures. :)

I have an Erin Johnson :) 289 pt Mech. hehehe :) Scary hey?

And an Atlas for salvage? *whistles appreciatively* Lucky bastage :) if i were born 900 and some years later, I'd be there too :)

Keep them coming Draven, the story is great so far.
