Don't ask about the rest of the thread, Rak...just don't ask...

We're all obviously INSANE and TANGENT-DRIVEN.

And FF9 sucks because A) Besides Zidane, Vivi, and Steiner for comic relief, the characters suck, appearence wise, personality wise and powers wise (Compared to everyone else, Zidane is sickeningly overpowered, that's the only reason he's on the list), and B) The ending, hell, most of the storyline needed work. Can you remind me where the good game is in that?

Unless, of course, you LIKE the idea of what look to be 8-year-olds (one is actually 6, being tha stupid little girl person with the mogs) falling into all sorts of random shite. Great stuff...

Sorry, I just have a higher standard for my videogames. I don't like things that are so flagrantly aimed towards little kids and/or pedophiles (what?! There are FAR, FAR too many people who are into Garnet hentai for my tastes). It needs to be either entertaining character/plot/humor-wise, or it needs a really great leveling up system that I'm going to min/max so I can once again redefine uber.

You want good PS and PS2 RPGs? Hunt down these series:
-Suikoden 1-3
-Wild Arms 1-3
-Lunar and other Lunar games

Everything else is on a case-by-case basis, or I haven't played it.

Now that I'm done hating on FF9 (GODDAMNIT I DID IT AGAIN >.< I need therapy...), let's get back on topic here, shall we? I would like to see sometime before Monday/Tuesday night some progress on everyone's storyline. Doesn't have to be epic right now, just leave your mark on the storyline and show where you are and what you're doing. I'm gonna make another post probably later today (damn it's late) and move my character along, see what he can do in real time.

Okay, post those posts, people, I do like how this could work out.

Oooo....I like what I'm seeing so far. Good writing and good characters make for good threads. This could be a winner.

Thought of any name ideas yet FalseProphet?

Hanh!

What I was saying about only having a ahnd-me-down PSone?

My dad came home, and said get in the car we're going concole shopping! So now I have a PS2, plus Soul Calibur and Prince of Persia.

Looked through the new AND used sections, and could not find Final Fantasy anywhere. I was dissappointed.

But I have Sould Calibur to keep me company... yay.
I was so mad, I could have chewed up nails and spit out paper clips.

Sorry about not helping with the advancing of the story. I came on last night like usual and the website was down. So I haven't been able to see anything until tonight. I will add a post either tonight or tomorrow night FOR SURE.

:::

Never played Suikoden games. I own the first one, but haven't gotten to it yet. Maybe I'll get the second and third if I like the first.

:::

Well I'm off to reading everyone's posts now. :)

Damn, I turn my back for one second to start up again at my job, and fifty posts all of a sudden pile up! Well, I got a lot of things to respond to, so I best get started...

*swipes popcorn back from FalseProphet* Yes, there was a Megacity in the Matrix, because that was the name of the city that was inside the Matrix. Scan any one of the movies in the trilogy and you'll see. BAM! Dorkness Powers, Activate!

Khavi has never played an FF game?!? *starts to hyperventilate* Every anime fan that I know of has jumped on the FF bandwagon right away. Such amazing stories weaved in with great gameplay... and you're missing out because you playing what instead?... TOMB RAIDER?!? Hah! Just picking on you. Seriously though, if you can get your hands on any FF game (even FF9, but more on that later), you certainly won't regret it.

Now for FalseProphet... *cracks knuckles* We need to talk some RPG talk. But first, those dragons you're referring to from X, I believe are the Earth and Heaven dragons or something like that. I'm not sure, I only saw the X movie which was very horrible in my opinion and I didn't pay much attention to it. The series must be better, but I know the movie sucked.

As far as the FF games go, they break down like this:

FF7 > FF9 > FF8 > FFT

And even though I put Final Fantasy Tactics at the end, I don't think it's a horrible game by any means. It's just not really a FF game, it just has an FF theme. It's more of a strategy RPG from the likes of Advance Wars or Fire Emblem for those GBA owners out there (listen to me fire off acronyms).

And FF9 is NOT a bad game by any means, but you have to be an old school FF fan to truly appreciate it. I played through all of them, beginning with FF1 on the NES, all the way through the series in order, so I was able to pick up all the references that were represented. Bosses like Garland and the Four Chaoses were originally from the first game. Pick up FF Origins for the PS1 if you want to check it out as it contains a graphically updated FF 1 & 2. Also, check out FF Chronicles to try your hand at FF4 and Chrono Trigger (another great RPG) and FF Anthology to play FF5 & 6.

Wow, I rambled a bit. Anyways, the reason FF9 took place in a medievil setting and the reason the characters look somewhat childish and deformed is because that was the way the games looked during FF1-6. The characters appearances were intended to resemble character classes from older titles, hence their looks. For example, the reason Vivi looks the way he does is because black mages have always looked that way in FF1 and beyond. Of course, having played FFT, I wouldn't need to remind you of that. Eiko is another example. The reason she has a horn is because summoners have always originally had horns. I thought their personalities and abilities were rather appropriate for the role they were to be representing. I happened to enjoy the storyline, as well as the game's ending. I really don't know what more you could do to add to an ending that was already about 45 minutes in length. I think I touched on everything FalseProphet said was its downfall. If you happen to have any more criticisms about this title, I'd be happy to retaliate, though feuding over a game right before starting an RP together may not be the wisest choice. My FF fanboyism tends to get the best of me *straightens crown that reads Ultimate Final Fantasy Fanboy* Wow, I'm outta breath...

*end of history lesson*

Anyways, I should have a post up tomorrow or the day after at the latest. See ya!

P.S. My picks for other great RPG's for PS1 & 2

- Final Fantasy X & X-2
- Xenogears (even has anime sequences integrated)
- Chrono Cross

Points of Order:

1) Yes, they are the Dragons of Heaven and Earth. Yes, X the movie sucked hardcore for the most part. The series is a bit more interesting, go check it out just to say you have.

2) FFT = God of FF. Yes, FF, as in Final Fantasy. BOW BEFORE IT!

3) How in the name of God's Pants Pickle is FF9 better than FF8? Yes, the characters were annoying in various ways, but the leveling up system REDEFINES UBER in the right hands. 9 didn't even have a good leveling up system to make up for it's shit characters. Zidane is a thief, and most theives (exception being Yuffie) are awesome in some way. Vivi is a black mage, and all black mages rule (no exceptions). Steiner is one of THE best comic relief characters in the FF universe, bar none. These three, however, do not make up for the simple fact that all the rest of the characters suck, and that the game sucks.

4) I am a fan of old school FF. 6 is awesome (Sabin, Edgar, Locke, Celes, etc.), 4 is awesome (Rydia + Edge forever <3! Damn I'm lame...). 9 does not remind me of old school FF, it just pisses me off. And Chrono Trigger is really one of the best old RPGs in existance

5) I don't REALLY care how they look, they're not nearly as cool as the old school sprite characters who, yes they were superdeformed, but they were obviously adults. Sabin was an adult. Cyan was an adult. Zidane, Vivi, Eiko (Whom I hate righteously >.<), and, despite her "official" age, Garnet are NOT adults, and it's obvious. I know what a BM looks like, I know what a summoner looks like, the characters still suck.

6) Freya, Eiko, and Quina need to all die slowly in a boiling pot of oil. They sucked the most. And those two damn jester fucks, Zorn and Thorn too.

7) The city inside the Matrix was Chicago, wasn't it? Not "Megacity" anything. *swipes popcorn again* I remember this from the street directions in the first one, "Wabash and Lake" I believe was one of the exits. So, who's the dork now, huh?! Oh, right, me...

8) THERE IS NO POINT NUMBER 8!!

Needless to say, I, too, am a massive dork; problem is, I'm a negative kind of dork that enjoys hating on things (AGAIN I DO IT!! WHY GOD WHY??!?!). I am not a fanboy, I like some things better than others within the same overlaying title (FF being a case in point, most other things as well; I don't like something just because it has a name I like, otherwise I'd be playing Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Stupid Fucked-Up New Version for N00bs).

"Well well well, if it isn't the most diabolical hater this side of the Mississippi." That'd be me.

I plan on hating on things (mostly videogames, movies, and anime) and people for a long, LONG time to come. It's just how I am. And though he is a fanboy, Blade is right, this is a stupid argument that is completely beside the point of my awesome RP. SO, with that in mind, our arguments about FF9 being awesome versus it being worse than snail shit have been made, and should not continue further.

Really, it's all opinion. Arguing is fun in good humor, though, isn't that right, Blade? *wink wink*

PS. Yes, I AM working on a title. No, I DON"T know when it'll be done. Yes, I AM still taking suggestions.

PPS. THERE IS NO PPS. ADDENDUM TO THIS POST!

Got a question cuz I'm a bit fuzzy on who is fighting/hunting/after who. lol

The hunter characters hate mutants and mages? Does that mean my character- if it becomes known what she does- would be on a hunter list? Or is that a different type of "mage"? Just wondering if she should be wary of more than just unknown assassins looking for her. lol

Hunter characters, being mine, hunt rogue Mutants and Magic users, that includes Chaos Magic. However, in your case, the Church of Entropy will be after you directly, not the government. They would want to "secure your talents" (read: make you one of them) because of your intrinsic "divine" Chaos nature. If you don't accept their offer (your call as to how that works for you), THEN you can expect a visit from sociopathic hunter people.

Hope that clears it up.

PS. Yes, it seems as though Alastor hates both Mutants and Mages. Everything will be revealed as I post.

Well, you're absolutely right, FalseProphet. A little debate can be kinda fun once in awhile, which is why I feel compelled to reply to your statements. Here goes:

1) Yeah, I'll definately have to check out the series and try to look past the bias that the movie established for me.

2) Yes, FFT stands for Final Fantasy Tactics, but all I was trying to say was that it is a side story that is set apart from the main series. Particularly in gameplay (and even difficulty in some places)

3) The reason FF9 ranks above FF8 is because of a few simple story discrepencies I have, among other things. *SPOILER ALERT* I thought the idea of all the characters having gone to the same orphanage when they were children, but just "forgot about it" because of the GF was rather cheesy and rediculous. I also didn't like the fact that Ultimecia just kinda appears out of nowhere as this final mother of all that you have to kill at the end of the game. That was a lame plot twist, I thought. As far as the gameplay goes, I thought the junctioning system was neat, much like you do. The only criticism I have is that you spend the majority of the game summoning your GF's to fight for you, which the only thing you have to do is watch the same looong sequences over and over again, OR you can sit there and button mash like crazy as every RPG fan loves to do. Otherwise, I thought it was an excellent game.

4) I totally agree with you about FF6, 4, and Chrono Trigger, they are all excellent games. However, when I talk about old school FF, there are more than just two 2D FF games. Most references come from the first game for the NES, like I had mentioned earlier.

5) You just admitted to the 2D characters being deformed, so I don't need to go there again. And as far as the characters being adults, the characters in FF8 were not legally adults if you think about it. All of their ages range between 16 and 18 so they're not exactly pushing middle age themselves.

6) Okay, so I wasn't a big fan of those characters either, which is why I never used them. But at least they're unique. I agree with you about Zorn and Thorn, I wanted to kick their rhyming asses into next week.

7) Well, you're probably right. The city was meant to resemble Chicago, but to all those who are awake in the real world, it's referred to as Megacity. If you watch the special features on Matrix 2 or 3, the creators will refer to it as that too. *dorkness level rises*

It seems as though I'm the optimist, and you're the pescimist... like pieces at the opposite ends of an equation... says the architect (see Matrix Reloaded). Well, that's enough dork jargon for now. Hopefully I didn't mispell too badly above because I haven't the time to proofread. Well, until next time kiddies...

More obligatory replies ^_^;;

2) I demand to know what's so bad about FFT besides the fact that it has an awesome battle/level up system that isn't traditional FF.

3) Of course 8 was ridiculous story-wise, what FF game DOESN'T have ridiculous elements? Yes, there is lameness, but there's lameness in all the games. In FFVII, there were parts that could have been taken out. Same for FFVII, FFIX, FFX, FFX-2, same for all of them. My point is that the annoying stuff in FF9 was more prevalent and not balanced out by enough awesomeness. I demand to feel stupunfuscious during a game, damn it! (cookie for first person who knows what that word I just used means)

4/5) Point for this. I know OF the references, I'm about as much of a dork as you are, but I don't fault them for making references to an old game. It just rubbed on me the wrong way. And yes, I know that FFVIII chas were mostly underage, but they look and (for the most part, Zell and Selphie being exceptions) act more adult-like. Their storylines are more adult. Same for the chas in FFVI and some in FFVII. FFIX chas were children (Freya the bitch that she is is the exception; Steiner is not an exception, because he's based on the child's characature of the fumbling adult, not anything resembling a real adult), and targeted at child demographics.

6) Thank you for having taste in characters.

7) It's still Chicago weather they call it that or not, so nyeah.

It's Pessimist, and you're right, I am. I have yet to play FFX-2, for example, because I'm convinced it's a glorified excuse for fanservice and it will suck compared to FFX which I wasn't that much of a fan of in the first place. There are a lot of games I have yet to play and/or finish for one reason or another.

Haha. This is all interesting to me. I happen to not like FF:Tactics as much as other games but I still liked it. The battle system was awesome and addictive. I liked learning skills. This is why I liked FFX-2 so much as well. I think they had to make it completely different, lots of showy things, (including the girls) and make it different because they wanted to find a way to make the game a success and raise interest to the public. The level up system is similar to Tactics. So much fun. *grins* I don't even want to tell you guys how many hours I put into that game. And, Blade, zip your mouth...hehe...no blabbling how many hours I put into it. To tell you the truth, I didn't have a guide and missed a lot of things, and didn't complete the game 100% with the Perfect Ending until the 3rd try. I should've bought the book. Oh well. I still had fun! And the girls keep their skills too when you play New Game +. Yay!

Oh well....I think I read enough on the subject to not feel like writing more. To sum it up: I'm a big fan...I'm a gamer who likes good story lines and non-tedious battles OR lots of random battles, and each have their faults and wonderful additions to them. Hehe. :D Enough said on my part. :)

Can we have a little more description of the world we're in? The sky, the earth...the plant life or lack thereof....
To be true to yourself and get caught,
Or to betray who you are and remain hidden.
Shakespeare was wrong.
That is the real question.

Thanks to Laila for getting everything back on track here.

The sky of our Alternate Earth is more often than not a light grey color with dark grey clouds, though the sunset still makes things very colorful. It is breathable, but since the "apocaylpse", where they were forced to eat Robin's ministrels, and there was much rejoicing *cough* the earth is not really the same as it once was. Humans have adapted to this new, somewhat harsher air, and as a result they are not as interested in the environment as they once were (in real life, a lot of the shit we do is harming us too, not just the grass and so on; here, we've basically been "upgraded" to be able to withstand Much dirtier conditions. A good portion of us can no longer subsist on "pure" air anymore, but water is still important.) Plus, as you can imagine, the air is worse in the slums and better in the centers. Note that upperclass people have taken to purifying their air, and so are not as hardy in the slums, and vice versa.

The earth itself: In the time of the "apocalypse", the earth shifted back drastically to a much more connected Pangea-esque land mass. Within about 5 miles radius of any Megacity the earth is barren and terrible to grow things in (food is grown in what amount to huge greenhouses in the city limits). Past that is patchy grassland and trees. Some believe that there is a place in the world that is a natural utopia, referred to as New Eden, and travel extensively to find it.

Most plants and animals that exist on Alt Earth are hiding out FAR into the plainslands, far away from anywhere humans normally go. There aren't a whole lot of people who care, but those that do are cataloging what species are around now.

Need more, feel free to ask. Specific questions are always good.

PS. Hey everyone, Tidus sucks! Just thought you ought to know, since Rahlan brought up FFX-2.

After your description of the way the world looks and whatnot Prophet, a character has sprung to mind (I've been trying to get one worked out for a while now, but no interesting ideas have surfaced before now). However, because it happens to be time for me to sleep (work at 5:30 in the morning), I'll throw up the character description and whatnot tomorrow night or Friday and see if it gets the thumbs up or thumbs down.

Lemme guess Raige, you're doing *uses psychic powers* a ranger/barbarian kind of guy who was born out in the grasslands and/or is trying to survey the new earth and get descriptions of the animals and plants and stoats and orangutans and *smack*. Whatever it is, I'm sure it'll be right dandy, and I'll look forward to it.

Kudos for Khavi for picking up on my offhanded reference *hands a cookie to Khavi*

Hence why Tidus sucks, Rahlan, he's far, far too positive for my tastes. What, like you expect someone named FalseProphet to be giddy? Whatever...

Future updates about the people, places, and most importantly things of Alt Earth as warranted.

*sigh* Here we go again...

2) I don't think we're on the same page here as far as what's wrong with FFT. I never said it was a bad game or that there was anything seriously wrong with it. I just prefer the other FF games more, that's all.

3) I'm not denying that FF storylines in general are far from perfect. What I am saying though is that the flaws in the FF8 plot stuck out more than those in the other FF games in much the same way that the flaws in FF9 stuck out for you. The only difference is, I still liked FF8.

5) Just thought I'd mention that just because a story stars children, does not mean it targets the demographic of children. Would you mean to tell me that since Neon Genesis Evangelion's main characters are a bunch of kids, that that show is targeted for young ones?

7) You call it Chicago, and I'll call it Mega City. There, problem solved. :D

Even though I am an admitted fanboy, I do have to make this comment. I don't think you should judge a game such as FFX-2 unless you have actually played through a sizable portion of it. As far as the game itself goes, though I don't believe Square Enix should make a habit of direct story sequels of FF games (unless it's a movie sequel, like the upcoming FFVII: Advent Children), I do think that FFX-2 was a great addition to the series. The level-up system is similar to that of FF Tactics, believe or not. At least, as far as using various jobs and gaining AP to master skills and such. And I did think it was fun to travel through Spira a second time, whether or not it had changed much. However, this is a new debate altogether. You are right though, Tidus is an optimistic femball...

Well, I've almost got my post ready. I've just been having problems getting a background started for my character (like I always do). Hopefully, I'll have it done by tomorrow night. Well, until then!

P.S. I think this goes without saying, but anything said above is harmless debate and is not to offend anyone. Thought I'd throw that out in case my comments sounded bitchy.

Question-

This 'Church of Entropy' thing that's running around... is that all the churches in the world? Or would some churches survive the fanatical Entropy thing and just be quiet little churches? (Mosques, cinagogues (sp?), other kinds of houses of worship count here too... any of them still around?)

Or is everything fanatical an Entropy-like?

(Malitar's post made me think of this... gave me a little idea for later, if I need it.)

And: Would churches still count as sanctuary?
I was so mad, I could have chewed up nails and spit out paper clips.
