Exiled Memories OOC and Discussion (Cyberpunk RP)

Postby FalseProphet » Thu May 13, 2004 9:11 pm

These are some of the ideas for classes and other things for a Cyberpunk I've been working on for a little while. I'm in the process of making up a story seed for it, but in the meantime, send me inspiration, make characters, and we'll make this world something that can stand up for awhile of pounding away at it. I'm generally thinking of themes based on these elements (Note that these can change as inspiration strikes):

Planar/Time travel (Final Fantasy VIII style without too much angst)

Rebellion against the Corrupt Government

Ancient Powers taking hold in current times

Traditional Magic: Avatars: How one casts magic in this world is based on the strength of their Avatar. An Avatar, in some cases known as the Anima, is a semi tangible energy field around the person in question. It often appears in the form of an animal, hence the alternate name Anima. Those who do not cast magic do not have Avatar fields, but still do hava Avatars. A list of what kind of magic is castable shall follow.

Chaos Magic: Warlockry/Psionics: Some individuals have been born, in this new world ruled by the forces of Entropy, with the direct taint of Entropy upon them. These people are called Warlocks, or Chaos Mages. They possess powers like Telekinesis, Telepathy, and other traditional Psionic powers lost to the ages past.

Gene-Spliced: The scientists of Entropy, such that they are, have been testing their abilities on average citizens, adding in whole other gene sequences that were never meant for mortals to have in their bodies, giving them very strange mutations, not all of which are beneficial, and almost none are easy to hide. Most of these people, provided they survive the harsh treatments, are looked upon with equal parts fear and pity by the "norms". The government created a special beaureu of men and women who hunt rogue Gene-Spliced creatures, tagging them with tattoos or killing the ones deemed too violent to survive.

Cybernetics: The government's contribution to the betterment of mankind, cybernetics are obviously mechanical enhancements that are installed into people's bodies. They can have a wide array of effects, from making one's grip strong enough to bend steel to doubling or tripling one's running speed, or other cosmetic things like color-shifting hair folicles and more aesthetically appealing body parts. All cyborgs are government sanctioned and tracked to make sure that they don't use their enhancements against the government. However, there are "underground" cybernetic enhancements, that often are not very human-looking and painful to install and have.

Artificial Intelligence: Robots are increasing in their complexity and in their ability to process information. They walk among humans, some autonomously, but most are still tools for everyday life. There are also mech suits similar as those you see in games like the Armored Core series.

Cyberscape: The network of computers and information that criss-crosses the world comes with a new breed of rogue "scientists": the hacker. People surf the Cyberscape for information; hackers live in cyberspace to become miniature gods of information, creating and altering the digital code at their whim. There are counter-hackers who work for the government that attempt to keep the rogue computer users from causing too much havoc. The Cyberscape is surfed by either traditional computer terminals or by "Hacker-Wear", cybernetic clothing such as gloves or glasses that allow for a more interactive way of surfing the net.

WEAPONRY: IMPORTANT: Guns use bullets still. There are no laser guns here. Thank you.

Also, guns outside the military are rare, and if there are private citizens with guns, they are PISTOLS at best. The heaviest weapons are called Multiassault Battle Rifle, or MBR. There is a very popular underground barehanded fighting league, known simply as The League. Most people are not proficient in fighting unless they are part of The League or the military.

Factions:
-Church of Entropy member:
-Military/Mutant and/or Mage Hunter/Government Scientist:
-League Fighter:
-Mage/Warlock:
-Citizen/Rogue Mutant:
-Hackers:

[glow=red]Definitely![/glow]

I'd love to come up with a character for this RP. It's different and I really need to do more writing in my life, so this would be great timing. I have no clue what I'd do for a character though. I'll have to see what is decided. I don't have any additional ideas at the moment other than what you have going. I'll have to see.

Of course, plot will always evolve once we actually start. :D

Whoa, for someone who allegedly is not good at creating story seeds, your ideas thus far are damn good! As far as my ideas are concerned, I'd have to agree with everyone else about the whole rebellion thing. Those are always fun. I guess I've never created a character that wasn't based in like a medievil times theme, but I think I can whip up something. Oh, and the chaos magic thing is cool too...

Yes, every once in a while I and my esteemed writing partner Khavi will start a thread that is based in modern or futuristic times, but we always end up going back to medieval/fantasy type time frames. Hopefully, with enough support, this story won't go by the wayside like others I've been in.

Yeah, as Raige said, there have been a lot of difficulties of modern-day or futuristic stories lasting too long in Temper's Ball... Not sure why, but medival or fantasy sorts usually last twice as long or even finish.

Oh well, with a good enough story and well-done characters I bet we can pull it off (not like I'm really worried about NOT having a good story and well-done characters... but who knows when a bum godmoder will wander in off the street, you know? Sorry, I'm just paranoid about writing I'm involved in.)

Lets get the party started!

I've got a character I could fit into one of those molds. :)

Very good story line, too. Just a question about this story, any space-type travel allowed? My character was written as being born in a cheap space freighter, and since I know nothing of guns, I suppose I won't have to worry about that. *L*

Blarg, I wasn't expecting such a huge fanbase here...Thanks, y'all, I appreciate the support.

Okay, so we're doing a little classic rebellion against the Empire *cough* er...rebellion against the Empire Carpet people? *smack* Okay I deserved that...

NEVERTHELESS, we're rebelling against the government. Happy happy joy joy.

Probably depending on who all we get from what factions, there'll be a group of people closely affiliated with The League (using it as a cover for their organization; whoo, levels upon levels here people) who are rebelling against the government because they are A) oppressing the average citizenry who aren't uber political and influential and B) oppressing the mutants when they should be going after the Church of Entropy for creating them. There are a wide variety of people in this "rebellion", though it is not large or very threatening right now, at least by the lights of the government (a theocracy, by the way, despite the fact it was originally a normal democratic republic like the US is now).

The Church of Entropy is the part cult, part massive socio-political dynamo that worships what they refer to as Entropy, or the embodiment of Chaos. They believe that the ruined world is the true beauty the world was always meant to be like that came after The Rebirthing, a time of terrible swarms of some unknown force sweeping over the land, desecrating it and making it into the hellhole it is now. They are ever growing in influence and in membership, because they teach people to embrace the world around them instead of being afraid. "This is God's plan for us," they say, "this is Divine Entropy. This is His gift to His children." They are the reason why the government is a theocracy rather than a democratic republic, because it is one of the only ways, besides resorting to TOTAL martial law (see Judge Dredd for an example of this), of keeping people more or less content.

Oh, and how do the Mages, the Avatar users, fit into all this, you may ask? They're the people who were at one time the well respected wise ones who led the world before the Rebirthing. Afterward, the CoE took over, and their teachings were lost into the ether. The TRUE Avatars are rare, passed down through the bloodlines of the ancient Mage families. Some can summon minor avatars and use magic, but only those with true Avatars (capital A, there's a difference) can cast the magic of the old ways. Mages are hunted with more fervor than rogue Mutants, because they are more of a threat to the rule of the CoE.

Maybe sometime I'll come up with a Pentax Inc. ripoff (Werewolf The Apocalypse people know what I'm talking about, but for normal people, a corrupt corporation). Really, who needs more sides?

Space travel, since Raknarak brought that up...Hmmm...I'm going to pull a Cowboy Bebop here and say that there is commercial space travel, tourism and so on, but they haven't come in contact with aliens (officially... <_< >_> Mmm, governmental conspiracies are brewing already). There are human settlements in space, orbiting around Saturn and Jupiter to take advantage of the high heat output from the cores of these two planets for energy (True stuff, go read a Space Science textbook if you don't believe me); also Mars has been colonized by now, and it's been turned into a prison planet, like a glorified version of Australia.

Righto. If anyone has new ideas/questions, go ahead and post them, I'm gonna make my character now. Please follow the same format as much as possible.

(Code) Name: "Alastor", unknown real name

Age: Unknown, but looks to be around 21

Height: a little short of 6'

Weight: 160

Class/Occupation: Former League fighter, now Sanctioned Mutant
and Mage Hunter

Faction: Government; Mutant and Mage Elimination Division

Appearance: short spiky dark brownish red hair; one green eye and one solid black eye; wears dark, reflective shades all the time; twilight-coloted bulletproof breastplate; black, somewhat jagged edged cape that flows around him; black combat pants and boots

Personality: Most memories are in fragments; efficient and usually ruthless in his work; curious and has a tendancy towards somewhat uncalcuable reactions to things (not random as much as unpredictable)

Weapons/other equipment: bulletproof gauntlets with retractable high-impact titanium claws; radio communicator; stock government-issue 9mm; shades enhance his targeting/vision in darkness

Avatar/Chaos Magic/NA: True Avatar of the Scorpion, though true powers are repressed; has the power to cause pain to surge through the bodies of those who he looks at with his black eye (this causes a purple or blue sunburst aura to emit from his black eye while he uses the power, only purple at first but when he starts getting more powerful it becomes blue and he can kill with the look)

Gene-Spliced/NA: NA

Cybernetics/NA: partial magic-blocking nodes in body; enhanced strength, stamina, and speed

Backstory: You'll find out when this gets off the ground ^_^

Anyway, so those of you who have characters, post them, those of you who want one, PM me or whatever and I could give you ideas.

Still kinda working on this.....so if there isn't something thats not right lemme know..........

(Code) Name: Latis Belhmeir

Age: 23

Height: 5'2"

Class/Occupation: When she isn't buried in Cyberspace or whatever you want to call it she is a waitress in a dingy lil dinner a block from her apartment.

Faction: Hacker

Appearance: Strawberry blonde hair that is curly and usually scraped back in a tight pony tail, Grey eyes, pale complexion, very freckeld. Wears black leather pants and a green tank top most of the time and a ratty brown leather duster.

Personality: Loud, has an increadible foundness for beer. Very Spontanious and fun loving. She tends to cloak things in a thick layer of sarcasm and is very serious about what she does and she does it well. She tends to arugmentative and stubborn. She has a temper from hell and woe to the person that causes a very rare blow up.

Weaknesses: Every day ordinary human weaknesses.

Weapons/other equipment: She has a few hand guns laying around but perfers throwing knives and good old fashioned ass whooping.

Avatar/Chaos Magic/NA: nope

Gene-Spliced/NA: Nope

Cybernetics/NA: nope

Backstory: Latis grew up being a computer genius. She was raised by a wealthy family which have disowned her. She no longer has contact with them because they would have her arrested for working aganst the goverment.

All right, here goes nothing...

Name: Ellie "Buzz" Ludwig
Age: 21
Height: 5'4"
Weight: 120
Class/Occupation: Mechanic, has her own garage
Faction: Citizen as yet unaffiliated, but leans toward the side of the League
Appearance: Short, slightly choppy dark hair (with the remainders of an old bleach job at the bottoms), fair complexion, green eyes. Generally slums around in jeans or fatigue pants, white wife-beater type of tanktop, goggles either around her neck or keeping her hair out of her face (or, when working... on her eyes). On her feet she usually wears steel-toed, sturdy soled boots while working and normal sneakers everywhere else. Often motor oil smudged, hardly ever completely spotless.
Personality: Pretty easy-going, a little rough-and-tumble. Strange sense of humour, generally quite friendly, doesn't often get angry. Chronic smoker. Loves (and is able) to dismantle and reassemble most cars, motorcycles, airplanes, spacecraft, you name it. There is often a part-empty bottle of one alcohol or another nearby. Also has a bad habit of getting into barfights.
Weapons/other epuipment: Generally... doesn't carry a weapon, because she really doesn't need to. Usually has a screwdriver or a Swiss army knife or some similar tool in one of her pockets, though.
Avatar/Chaos Magic: N/A
Gene-Spliced: N/A
Cybernetcis: N/A, though she does have a little interest in how cybernetics work, because of her fascination with mechanics and electronics.
Backstory: Buzz was raised in the same large city she's lived in all her life, with not much interest of going too far away. Her father was also a mechanic, so she was taught to drive from a rather young age (twelve). Once she knew how to run the vehicle Buzz, always an impossibly inquisitive child, immediately became interested in how it worked. One weekend, while her parents were working, Buzz sat at home and taught herself the inner workings of the family vehicle... by completely dismantling it and putting it back together, piece by piece, with the aide of one of her father's many manuals. When her father came home, he was surprised to see Buzz sitting on the floor of the garage, re-attaching the license plate.
She began working part-time at her fathers garage and, at the age of 15, became the youngest professional stock car racer in the league. At 19 she retired for a while to set up her own garage and drop out of the public eye for a while. Now, two years later, she stops by the tracks once in a while for old times' sake, but she spends most of her time repairing and remodeling cars brought to her by customers.

*******

and that's that.

Characters thusfar are good, you two. I'll see what Rahlan (or her alt, rather) comes up with, and wait a little bit to see who else bites the hook I've got here. Periodically over the next day or so I'll update and rework some of my stuff so it's more cohesive instead of general rambling. And I also need to come up with a goddamn title for the RP, and/or a couple NPCs to round out the world.

As I've said, go ahead and send me ideas if you have them, I'm pretty flexible when it comes to this sort of thing.

I adjusted a character I used in a different futuristic rp to use here. If there are elements that need elaboration or changing, I can do that. :)

Name: Christine "Cricket" Malone

Age: early 20s

Height: 5'2"

Weight: unknown- she has a slender almost waifish build.

Class/Occupation: not determined

Faction: not determined

Appearance: Very pale skin, dark blue eyes and long black hair. She has a tiny scar above her right eyebrow and a long thin scar on her neck under her chin. She wears faded jeans, a black tank top, a worn leather duster and black biker boots. She doesn't wear jewelry due to almost being killed by someone trying to choke her with her necklace.

Personality: She has a tendency to trust people too easily and does not like hurting anyone if it can be avoided. Because of her "sweet" nature, people tend to underestimate her.

Weapons/other equipment: A small switchblade kept tucked in the waistband of her pants. A longer knife that is sheathed and kept on her inside leg, tucked into her left boot. She is able to use guns, but doesn't actually own one. She is limber, agile and quick, which makes getting into and out of physically tight situations easy for her. Also, She is ambi-dexterous with a knife.

Avatar/Chaos Magic/NA: Chaos Magician, with the psionic abilities of Post Cognition, Empathic Healing, and Speed Healing

Gene-Spliced/NA: NA

Cybernetics/NA: NA

Backstory: She grew up in what is often called a wasteland, where her ex-soldier father and ex-nurse mother took the family to live in an attempt to stay free of governmental influences. She is the youngest of 4 siblings and the only girl. Her father taught her how to fight and take care of herself and her family. Her mother taught her how to heal the wounds she caused. Her nickname came from her small size and her "chirpy" cheerful nature.

Assassins killed her entire family- she was the only one who escaped. She is trying to discover who sent the assassins and why. Since she only arrived in the area recently, and was raised as far away from the influence of "civilization", she hasn't yet joined a faction and she has no occupation.
Christine "Cricket" Malone
Abilities: Postcognition, Empathic Healing, Speed Healing

Angel of Mercy or Angel of Death- You decide

Calls Herself: Jem River (known as Jem)

Official Name: Anna 264 Class C – (part of a government project called Anna)

Age: Her age is known because Jem does not know whether she was completely created, cloned, or birthed.

Height: 5’10.

Weight: 150 lbs

Class/Occupation: develops software to override government tracking chips and passwords. Her work is classified and is restricted to talk about it any more than what the general consumers know. Software is known as Gazer’s DSM – (Digital Surround Music) to the general public, but it is always unavailable or too expensive on the market’s so no one is able to get their hands on it unless they have an official rebellion faction. If one buys Gazer’s DSM, the main purpose of the software is hidden by a music program designed to add music to malls, restaurants, and large ships. This is the only way to get around making illegal software without government question.

Faction: Mutant/Cyborg – she is unsure of where she really belongs.

Appearance: Has darker skin, but light colored hair. Her eyes are dark and her pupils often get large because of her ability to see in the dark. Her nails are almost like claws, but she tries to sand them down to a decent length so others don’t get disgusted by them. Both her hair and claws grow fast, but she tames herself to the public. Overall, she looks human, but underneath her clothing are scars and bolts.

Clothing: earthy colored leathers, along with a long black jacket. Her boots are made of rare animal skins and brown. Occasionally she likes to wear large jewels on her ears or around her neck.

Personality: Fairly quiet and thoughtful. She is usually too busy on her projects to have any friends. Unpredictable, but usually non-destructive. However, she is still strong and independent and does not take anyone’s crap…especially men’s.

Weapons/other equipment: wears a slim vest under her garments to help deflect standard bullets. She wears a large belt with various knives; mainly pocket-knives. Usually would go into combat only using her own combat arts. (Basically martial arts)

Cyborg/Mutant Ability: Her body generates a huge amount of iron in her blood. Because of this, she can create bullets for her internal gun. The gun hole comes out of her left wrist. She must cock her left arm back to fully expose it. She generally wears some kind of wrist band or cloth around her left wrist because of this. She creates an average of ten bullets a month so this is basically just a nuisance because if the bullets are not used up in time, she must discharge them somehow or they will numb up her arm.
Also can run very fast because of her improved legs and does not run out of stamina fast.
Her mutant abilities are scarce. She has wings that are tucked into her flesh. She will not use them unless in dire need because of the pain caused by spanning them out.

Weaknesses: prone to certain viruses since she is part cyborg. Common healing items such as bandages may not always work because some of her body is not made of flesh even though it may look so. Being a mutant causes her a lot of pain. Pills and shots help, but without them she becomes uncontrollable with raging agony.

History: No more than ten years ago, Project “Anna” took into effect. It was created by the government to make killing machines in which would look just like any other citizen, namely beautiful women. These killing machines were to be both Cyborg and Mutant. Each creation was tested and put into a class, S, A, B, C. (S being Superior and C being the worst). Those below class A were thrown into a concentration camp and eventually killed. Few survivors are known of. Anna 264 Class C, having fragmented memories of another’s, realized escaping was the only way of survival and in turn killed one of the camp’s body disposal crew, dressed up as them, and escaped on their ship. Later she found herself working against the government because of what she experienced. She knows very little about anything. What she does know usually is from the messed up memories she has, in which she believes not to be her own.

Postby Laila » Mon May 17, 2004 10:02 pm

Well...here goes nothing. *grins* My second ever character for a futuristic setting...If anything is not to your liking, by all means let me know. (This is Mykayla's alt btw)

Name: Suriah...a name given to her by one of the more soft-hearted scientists that watched over her development. She has all but forgotten it.
Alias: Laila Davies
Age: You dare presume to ask a woman her age? (I'd place her at about 27)
Height: 5'7"
Weight: Just right
Occupation: To the public, she's a wealthy heiress. Her true calling? Information. Laila deals in secrets. Anything and everything is available to the highest bidder. She has a network of informers in both the government and the rebellion.
Faction: Mutant...you could call her a rogue, and you could say she works for the government. No one knows for sure except perhaps Laila herself.

Appearance: Attractive, for a mutant. She wears her black hair long, usually hanging free down to her mid-back to allow for many different styling options that might disguise the black furred cat ears she has instead of traditional human ears. Her eyes are very striking, somewhat feline in shape and yellow-green in color. Her facial features are an interesting combination of delicacy and strength. Her body is toned and curved just enough to catch the eyes of men. Beneath her clothing on various regions of her body, patches of black fur cover her skin, but she usually shaves the fur down on a regular basis. She always looks well-maintained and clean. She had a small tail, but once she'd made enough money, she had it surgically removed.

Clothing: Typically she wears the most fashionable and expensive suits, dresses, and evening wear her money can buy. Even when she's wearing 'casual' clothes, her garments carry designer labels. Bright colors, strong greys, blacks, and whites...anything that will make a statement will probably make it's way into Laila's closet. However, the essential items of clothing? Hats and elaborate hairpins...to cover the points of the ears that could possibly peak through whatever hairstyle she has for the day.

Personality: Royal pain are probably the two best words that describe her. She is arrogant, proud, and generally cares for no one but herself. Occasionally she will find herself growing attached to this or that person, but usually it is only for as long as they serve a similar purpose to her own. The second someone crosses her, they can kiss her good humor goodbye. When dealing with her, many people often feel like a mouse whose tail is trapped beneath a cat's paw.

Weapons/other equipment: She isn't often armed, often trusting to her intelligence to get her out of whatever predicaments she might happen to get into...though over the past few years she's learned a thing or two about how to keep the attention and blame from falling on her, and she's also learned a thing or two about bluffing and calling other people's bluffs (word to the wise: Never play poker with this woman).
However, she does sometimes find herself in a situation where weapons wouldn't be too bad of an idea. In those cases she carries two small handguns and twin daggers. Her home is equipped with a very nice security system, including an armed guard. As she would say, "Hazards of the trade."

Mutant Abilities: She has improved sight, especially in the dark. She's also fairly fleet-footed and has very quick reflexes. Her fingernails are strongerthan a humans, though by no means unbreakable. As such, she tends to wear them a little longer than is fashionable, so they can serve as natural weapons in case of emergency. Like cats, if she falls from a height (I'll work on exact numbers only if someone asks lol), she's likely to land on her hands and feet with nothing more than a few scratches.

Weaknesses: She, unlike her four-legged brethren, does NOT have nine lives, and is frighteningly mortal. She knows this just as well as she knows that she is fairly alone with many enemies. She can fight, but only just as well as the next man or woman, and reflexes only do you so much good in the end. Unfortunately for her, and the cats after which she was patterned, she has little stamina when it comes to extensive work outs. She's only good for a burst of energy, then must rest.

History: I'll work on this as we go I think.
To be true to yourself and get caught,
Or to betray who you are and remain hidden.
Shakespeare was wrong.
That is the real question.
