I am rather persistant, but its a good trait when in TB because sometimes people don't post for ages if at all... *whistles innocently*
Anyways, I usually do what I just did then and make one huge catch up post to make up for not having the smaller posts.
Ok Here is a new rule, it will not be worded as a rule but it still is one.
Gaining skills and abilities to better enable a player to make headway in life. However, we also need to do so in a realistic fashion that makes logical sense. That is where this essay comes into place.
There are 5 levels of proficiency, mirroring the 5 levels of arcane mastery. They are basic, intermediate, advanced, expert, and master. Increased levels of proficiency lead to an ability to perform more complex tasks, or better performance of lower skilled tasks.
A special task must be accomplished to reach master level of any skill. This is a great display of skill and devotion that must be moderated by a GM and is of great difficulty to accomplish. It is in essence a major quest that the PC must complete.
More advanced training should be exponentially more complex and thus, longer. So, if basic training was 10 days, intermediate should be 20 days, advanced should be 40 days, and so forth. Lengthening is done, not by simply learning more, but by having PCs fail assigned tasks in class, or not quite getting them right. It may take, for example, a whole cycle before a student masters the art of forging a sword in dwarven steel. As you can see, it is easy to acquire a broad range of basic knowledge, but very difficult to acquire mastery of more than one.
Master of War
What see you in the horizon's bruised smear
That cannot be blotted out
By the raising of your hand?
