Events of great importance sway back and forth through the stream of time, for as long as there has been time there have been occurrences of great importance, as with everything, there were some that have been realized where others have faded never coming to pass. But as with all things, it’s the smallest event that starts the cycle.
"So this is how it will come to be." said the mysterious man, concentrating on an oval shaped window into which seemed to tear into time and space itself. "We shall see if the revelation is true." he spoke, and with that he let his eyes fall away from the oval window allowing it to close slowly... as if it had never existed.
At that moment Kaetanya watched silently through her window, as the moons passed each other in the night sky without a cloud in sight. She rested her head upon a pillow, speaking quietly, as if attempting to reassure herself in what was happening... As if her time had indeed come. "It was said the time has come." Finally as she dared to rest her eyes, she suddenly felt an acute rush of tension over her body, and then slacked as it washed away, when a mans hand pressed gently upon her shoulder. She turned and rested against the solid form which was laying next to her. She whispered towards him, "I'm scared...", her voice trailed off into a sigh of emotion.
"Your safe Kitty, I'll protect you." His gazed seemed to reach out to her heart. He turned her to face him, and pressed his lips gently to hers. A flood of warmth and safety consumed her, her will to deny her heritage, to deny the fate of the world, sated her as she gave into him, that which seemed prized the most, her being.
Morn had come and as the suns warmth spread across the floor and caressed her face she awoke. Hesitating to raise she slowly explored her surroundings with her misty eyed gaze. To her sudden discomfort she became aware of the fact that she was alone, again. "His part through... no longer needed..." She sat a while pondering on the events of the previous night. Over and over trying to convince herself that her actions were true from her heart, the responsibility was hers to bear, she would not give in to the foolish misgivings of an ignorant child, she was a woman, the babe was now her responsibility. Though she had to admit, she craved in and out the safety she felt within his arms. He melted her fears in ways she never thought possible. She reached a hand to her stomach unconsciously, wondering if the butterflies she felt were due to his seed, or to the sudden rush of emotions she felt at the thought of it.
Alone in the darkness of the shadows... cast by the canopy of the forest, the mysterious man awaits his arrival. Cael had awoken with the sun, a tender woman wrapped within his arms, though his heart sunk to the thought of her. Where he had given her what she needed, and taken what he desired most, he knew her path and knew that he would never have her again. Walking a long the road Cael looks for a spot to reminisce on his own... While searching he unnoticeably wanders a bit too far from the road. He stops and scouts about for signs of the road but strangely there are none. Fear comes over him, an alarming sense of danger, he spins around only to come face to face with a dark figure...he stumbles back in surprise. "What do you want?!", Cael stutters, looking a bit fearful and ready to flee.. he could feel the very presence of evil in this man.
"Calm yourself Cael.", the shadows speaks, "I am not here to harm you... Merely to offer you something." Taken back by the fact that the dark figure knew his name. "What me? What do you have to offer me?" The dark figure peered its eyes out of the shadows for the moment to stare into Cael's eyes. "Why, I could give you your deepest desires." he said with tone that sent a slight shiver up his spine. "What do you know of my desires.." Cael turned to leave, "There is nothing I want from you." The ground shook as the shadow laughed, a laugh that made Cael want to spew his breakfast. "Then allow me to tell you this mortal. To Hell with your desires... If you do not bring me your babe upon its birth, I will kill your woman, than what will you have to desire?"
"You, You, You... can't do this!!" Cael screamed...
"What will it be mortal, your woman, or your child?" The dark shadow, drifted away into the sunlight, as if it had never been. The only thing left was his voice... "You have until its birth to decide."
*36 Weeks Later*
The time went by so slowly, though it seemed the moment Kaetanya came to grips and was ready, so was the child. She screamed when she felt the first wave of pain break free...Cael had heard her and rushed to find the nurses.. Within seconds they took control of the situation.. “Breath deep deary, out through your mouth... that’s right...†One of the nurses egged her on. Cael, knowing his decision was now at hand, knew above any other that he could not give up his love, or his child. He came to grips suddenly that he would give himself and hopefully the evil that was that man would accept it, for what it was and leave his dear Kaetanya alone. One of the women in the room approached Kaetanya, offering her a goblet of wine to sooth her nerves... “Here dear drink this ...†Kaetanya grabbed her stomach as another wave ripped through her small frame.. “It will help... with the pain.†As it passed, Kaetanya accepted the goblet from her.. The drink was bitter, but it went down smoothly. Cael went to her as another contraction came upon her, he held her hand and tried to sooth her through the rough ordeal. “Just go with the pains, m’dear, it will all be over soon, I can see the babe’s head is near, just go with the pains...†Another pain cramped up her belly, and Kaetanya reached forward trying to ease the pain, to no avail. The pain was becoming less and less, and her body weaker and weaker. Her mouth hung open, a feeling of something being amiss consuming her thoughts. Her eyes felt like lead, and it felt harder and harder to keep them open. The pain had become a memory as she lay there, wondering if in fact she had just died... regardless something awful had just happened.
Cael seeing her condition lessen as each contraction came upon her. Turned to one of the nurses. “What is wrong with her?†he queried hoping it wasn’t serious.
“She will be fine, she just needed some rest, she need not know what we are doing here.â€Â
“What is it that is going on here?†Fear now consumed him, he had only one choice, hope the child could be born safely without the aid of its mother. The woman stare at the near born child...
“Who would think something so small could be so important to someone.†Her voice was void of emotion and none of the others in the room seemed to notice, they both just stood there un-looking.
“What do you mean...†He gasped as the realization came to him. If he would not deliver the child, than he knew that this woman must be the one that would. “You can’t do this... I won’t let you take my baby.. You can’t..†His voice trailed off, he felt lost, in the end the choice truly wasn’t his. She just ignored him concentrating on retrieving the babe from within its mother. He was nearly here, his head already broke through the barrier, she pulled and he thought for a moment that with these ministrations the child would not live, and then there he was wriggling in her hands, bloody and crying.. Cael reached for him as a natural father would, only to have him taken by another woman in the room. She cradled the child gently in her arms, cooing to him as though she were his mother. His mother he thought, looking to Kaetanya he noticed she was still bleeding. “She is bleeding still...†He motioned to the sensitive area where blood still flowed freely. “Aren’t you going to help her..†No one in the room motioned even a look in her direction, their attention was fully on the baby. Grabbing one of their arms, he goes to grab their attention. “You must..†The room suddenly grew dark....a shadow crossed all of their faces.
“You had your chance to save her...†his laugh was full of anger... “Now you have no choice, now she will die..†The shadow came down upon them in the form of a man, and reached for the babe as it was now born. The child as though in recognition of its happenings let out a sheer cry, and he and a woman went to exit the room through the dark distortion he had just entered through. Cael grabbed at him as they entered the portal, snagging some small portion of his being. He whipped around his essence beaming anger. “For your insolence you will die as well..â€Â
“You can’t have my son...†Were the last words the left his mouth before his body dropped lifeless to the floor.
Hours upon hours later. Kaetanya woke, though she wondered to herself if it was waking she was doing, and undeniable ache consumed her from head to toe, and she knew that instant that she was still living. Unbeknownst to her she was only alive because her body resisted, allowing the placenta to detach and her body to stop bleeding. Her mouth was unseemingly dry, and she had no knowledge of the events that had passed. “Cael†she called to him in an hoarse whisper. When she received no response, she made her soar body move, her head swayed with uneasiness and there was nothing good about the way she was feeling. Once on her feet she stumbled to find a grasp on what had happened. In a moment she remembered her purpose.. her son had been born, she knew she no longer felt his presence, she no longer felt connected to anyone. Falling to the floor in her despair, she gripped herself, the only thing she knew real, the only thing she knew she could feel... until her eyes refocused, and when they did she was horrified at what she saw. Her lovers body twisted and bloodied on the floor, pain stripped across his face. She let out a scream of pure torment, and passed out on the floor. The cries of her child echoing in her mind.
