GRIFFON!!! MARA!!

The voice was somewhat faint and well ahead of them, but it was still very audible in the unnatural silence that surrounded them where they were. Griffon wasted no time and gave Mara an even neutral look, and nodded slightly. He was worried about his son and daughter but he could not let any of that get in the way right now and Mara knew that herself, the two had been in enough combat in the past for them both to know the score. And Griffon charged out ahead of Mara who was close at his heels.

It didn't take the two long to reach the battle, and immediately he feared the worst, everywhere lay bodies of the dead. All of them appeared to be bodies of lesser demons of some sorts, mixed in with the half human bodies of the possessed. Deep in the mob of chaos spawn he could see Kain, his blade a blur of death. Every motion was precise and accurate, scoring wounds and parrying blades and paw alike. Griffon felt a surge of energy...stemming from his desire for revenge on the pain they caused him and his family. Griffon let out a mighty battlecry which somehow blared louder than the cries of pain and the clashing of weapons and the sound of the cry made a great many of the demons to pause in their tracks and turn to the man, as if ready to repel a charging army...but Griffon was a one man army and even though he was still injured and tired he was more than a match for the most stalwart of foes.

The demons charged the lone warrior, paying no heed to the woman that was behind him, hurling firey death at her husbands attackers. The clash was great, his enchanted blade glowing like a beacon while surrounded by so much evil. The monsters that met his charged were thrown back, their weapons and shields shattered and broken by the power of his claymore. And there was no time for recovery for those demons as he went on the offensive, spearing his first foe on the end of his blade and kicking the convulsing corpse from the end of his blade.

Griffon revelled in combat, but he kept his head in the game...he knew the dangers of combat, not only the physical dangers that came from those that wished to bring an abrupt and painful end to your life, but the mental dangers. Griffon knew many a great man that lost their minds in the midst of combat...something dark and feral taking over them, and they were never the same, some losing their minds others crossing to the plain of evil, seeking to bring pain and death to the innocent. Griffon knew he was not beyond evil's touch, especially not while in combat. The Spartan loved to fight, treasured the rush of adrenaline that coursed through his veins. Griffon thought of the men that fell to the darkness of war, and they immediately resembled the blood fury that these hell spawn possessed and that helped steel himself mentally.

Deeper and deeper into the maelstrom Griffon waded and he could feel Mara at his back, she always seemed to know where he was going and when...the two were so in tune with each other that their thoughts and actions were almost precise. Without a look or a thought Griffon's blade arched wide to his left, severing the head from a monster that was frighteningly close to Mara. Griffon never saw the monster there but he felt it's presense.

Oriana isnt here Shadowbain! I saw Gabriel giving chase to someone, something... we need to finish this Griffon... I think they have our daughter!

Griffon had feared as much himself. As chaotic as things were Griffon knew that the two were not amongst those that fought here, right now all combat seemed to be centered around the three of them. Griffon was sure his son and daughter were not to be counted amongst the dead, he would have felt as much immediately he knew and was relieved to hear that Gabriel had broken off from combat to chase Oriana and Rayne's kidnapper. Griffon laughed heartily as he brought his foe to his heel, one clutching it's lacerated throat as it gurgled it's bloody deathcry. Griffon shouted his response to Mara over the din of combat.

HA! The battle IS over! This rabble of Demon filth is little match for us! I'm almost disappointed I had expected so much more from them. We will break this warband then make haste to assist Gabriel.

Griffon could see the ranks of the demons were thinning...it was easy...way too easy. Kain was taking little effort to hold off the creatures that attacked him, as if their foe was already broken....or....

Before Griffon could finish his thought he heard a great roar...a roar that seemed to escape from a thousand maws at once. Griffon's eyes tore from his immediate problem to the new one...and it all became obvious...this was just the fodder. Tearing through the forest at them were hell spawn that brought shivers to his spawn. Succubi with great taloned feet and razor sharp claws...great crab beasts with pincers thicker than Griffon's torso and seemingly powerful enough to cut him in half with ease...but these monsters were followed by a mass warriors, massed ten abreast and five deep...a perfect disciplined unit all wearing the bloody "A" on their breastplate...this was no undisciplined rabble, this was a real unit sent to slaughter them and Griffon smiled.

Kain...you can handle this rabble...Mara can stew the crabs...the toy soldiers are mine.

Smiling almost with pleasure Griffon broke off from the monsters that surrounded him and followed by his fellow guards from Astrail, trampling a monster or two as he ran the charging mass of black armor head on.
"The first rule of combat is to kill your opponent before they kill you."

His blade had been moving back and forth faster than a blink of an eye. Masses of demonspawn lay at his feet, it almost seemed too easy, as if something was distracting most of the enemy. He could of swore he saw flashes of magical fire in the distance, but why would Mara throw spells that far out? No she couldn't have, she was too focused on the immediate problem.

Then a great roar came from above as 5 succubi descended upon them. Four giant demonic crablike creatures came in from the right as the last of the fodder fell in a fiery blast from Mara. A regiment of 50 soldiers with that familiar symbol on their armour and shields marched in from the left.

Kain...you can handle this rabble...Mara can stew the crabs...the toy soldiers are mine.

You heard him Mara, let's get to work. He made sure there were no stray foes around them, all of them lay dead or already fled the scene. Kain would have to protect Mara from the demonic winged succubi, while she focused on demolishing the giant crabs. The first of the creatures came in directly at him, it was her mistake. Kain dispatched the wretched demon in one blow. Those that followed immediately broke off a direct assault and started flying in a circle around Kain and Mara.

Griffon and his men were already in the fray with the "toy" soldiers. Kain circled around Mara protectively, as the succubi circled around them both. One of the succubi landed and began waving her fingers around in an enchantment. Kain couldn't help but watch as she slowly began to walk towards him, and at that moment she was the most lovely creature in the world. Kain's sword slipped from his grasp and he fell to his knees in awe.

Then somewhere in the deep recesses of his mind he could hear Oriana's voice, and he snapped out of the spell as the succubus was upon him caressing his neck with her hands, nails biting into the wound on his shoulder and bearing her fangs to drain his life's blood from him. He grabbed ahold of his blade and plunged it into her chest. She didn't see it coming, the look on her face revealed that much to him, and no longer was she the enchanting beauty that he had seen moments ago, but a vile wretched demoness. The thought of what could have just happened made Kain's stomach lurch. He wheeled about, as two of the Succubi thought to make their move on Mara who was still focused on the large demonic crabs. Spinning around the mage he lashed out horizontally with his holy blade, cutting cleanly through one succubus, and cleaving into the next.

There was only one left, and then Kain could go help Griffon who was holding his own but two of the four guards that accompanied him had already fallen, and were actually back up attacking their former master. Something about the ground in this part of the wood, so tainted that it made the dead into undead immediately. Griffon would need his help.

The last succubus landed and attempted to lure Kain into it's enchantment, but the warrior was ready for it this time, steeling his mind with images of Oriana. His mind was focused and determined, he would not let what happened happen again. He charged the demoness and thrusted for her heart if they even had one. She reacted quickly enough to stop the spell and avoid the lethal blow. Grabbing Kain's arm she twisted it with inhuman strength causing him to loose his grip, then threw him to the ground, his head glanced off a log, interupting his thoughts just long enough for her to sneak into his mind.

Kain was charmed again, and defenseless on the ground as she straddled him, leaning in she went to kiss him, a lethal kiss that would send poison through his being. Mara screamed out his name, and he snapped out of it. He brought his head up to meet the succubus'. The warrior had caught her by surprise, his head thudded against her forehead knocking her back, as a small fireball blasted into the demoness' chest. This distracted her long enough for him to grab his blade and sever his foe's head from her shoulders.

Kain got to his feet, Thank you dear one. He smiled to her and then turned to go join Griffon who was now facing odds of 30 or so to one...

OOC: Sorry loves, I didnt mean to be away so long theres been ALOT going on over here but I'm back now.

IC:

Glaring hands on hips Raynalia watched from a corner of her prison as a half man half demon promptly deposited the unconciouss Oriana on the only piece of furniture in the room, she couldnt keep from wincing as the young apprentice mage bounced against the cot.

What did you do to her?!

The words fell low but filled with venomn. So help them if one hair was harmed on the young womans head. Her question went unanswered, she hadnt really expected one either, nor had she expected to see Oriana slung over the shoulder of the fiend that had brought her in like she were nothing more than a sack of potatoes. The sight of her ebony haired friend lifted the elfs' spirits and brought a renewed sense of hope. Where there was Oriana, Gabriel and the remaining members of the Shadowbain clan was sure to follow. Dont forget Kain Dragonhand she reminded herself, that thought brought a grin to her face. If Kain was truly like the man she had heard of in the tales that Mara would tell, then nothing was going to keep him from reclaiming the violet eyed beauty who had taken his heart. She realized then that she was being stared at and returned the stare with a feral grin.

What are you smiling at?

The raspy voice of the monster carried through the room, no sooner had the last word fallen when their was a loud banging coming from outside, a sound that reminded the elf of rolling thunder and her grin widened.

You and your kind haven taken women belonging to the Shadowbain men... belonging to the Dragonhand clan... you have put your hands on Oriana Shadowbain... do you really think her brother or her lover are going to allow you to live?

A deep rumble shook the foundations of the holding bringing more confidence to the elf.

You are all so dead..

She spoke the words as the fiend took his leave and when he was gone she crossed the room going to Orianas side...

Gabriel raced through the forest, ducking branches jumping stumps and chopping brambles out of his way. Every step was agony and he was quickly wearing down. His breaths came in a wispy rasp and he grunted with every lumbering step, but the warrior didn't stop nor did he slow down. The two lives of the most important women in his life were at stake and Gabriel knew he would not stop and he would not rest until he found them and had them both safe back in Astrail.

He could hear the sounds of combat behind him as they began to dull and grow fainter as he sprinted farther and farther away. It was dark, very dark out here with the unnatural darkness hanging overhead but Gabriel pushed such thoughts away. Every now and then he would catch a glimmer of movement through the dark forest, never anything that he could distinguish but it was fast and it seemed to follow him from a distance...but he didn't care, so long as it didn't get in his way then he didn't care who followed him.

Gabriel ran for what seemed to be forever, and no matter how fast he moved he couldn't catch the bastard that ran off with his sister. But just as suddenly as the pursuit started it ended as he broke through a wall of foliage to emerge in a great clearng. Gabriel's jaw dropped as he stared around him at the great warcamp that filled the clearing. Gabriel glared around him, there was activitity everywhere as demons and men alike went about there business. The size of the camp astounded Gabriel, he had no idea the immensity of their foe till now. How could no one have noticed something like this sooner?

Gabriel didn't have time to dwell on any of this though. He had to find Ori and Rayne and fast. If these monsters found him it would end very quickly. There were thousands of them, and they all milled around performing their own demonic purpose, all around were bonfires surrounded by demons and men, all dancing, fighting, or drinking...or al together. And there were people...innocent people locked in cages bodies all piled on top of each other, some living and some dead...it was atrocious. Gabriel growled and pushed the thought from his head as he looked to the center of the camp. There lied a building, a ruin now but it was still very big.

Wasting no time he made his way through the camp towards the center of the camp. Fortunately the chaos filth that inhabited the camp were too absorbed in their own twisted games that they never noticed the dark dressed warrior as he bolted through their camp. All around he could hear the screams and whimpers of the human cattle that were caged up throughout the camp. Where did they get so many people from? He wished he could free them all but such an attempt alone would be futile and only bring all of their deaths. He had to get Oriana and Rayne and he had to do it quickly.

He made it to the center of the camp and found the ruins heavily guarded. He let out a scowl, he knew if he fought there at the gate he would draw to much attention he would be overwhelmed quickly. He needed a distraction. Turning back to the outskirts he grabbed a few torches and started to toss them at tents which quickly caught flame. It didn't take long before the fires started drawing the attention of the occupants and a rattled beehive the demons were running through the camp to attempting to put the fires out and find what started them.

Gabriel hid in the darkness of a tent's shadow as he watched some of the guards at the ruins split off in groups to help quell the blazes. Soon there were only two remaining, they were tense and scanning all around for activity besides that of their comrades. They didn't realize the man running at them with a drawn sword was their enemy till his blade cleaved through the first guard and by then it was already too late. The second guard didn't even have time to move his spear to a defensive position before he was rammed to the ground and speared with the man's sword. There was almost no sound and as Gabriel vanished into the ruins to find he realized he had no idea what he was going to be in for.

Ori! Rayne! I'm coming!

Gabriel shouted as he decended into the labrynthe like ruins.
We the Willing, Led by the Unqualified,
Do the Impossible, for the Ungrateful.

Be safe my beautiful baby boy.

Mara thought the words but did not say them aloud, not wanting to draw attention to her strong son whose mop of sandy blonde hair drew farther from her sight until she could no longer see even a sliver of her son. Gabriel vanishing from her sight brought a sense of dread to the warrior mage that she had to force down and not think about because at the moment they were surrounded by demons and crab like creatures that needed to be put down, there was no time to think of anything other than the task at hand, it was a task Mara took to gladly, every bit of anger and fear she had been keeping to herself, locked deep in the darkest place of her soul began to surface reflecting in each bolt of lighting ball of fire and spike of ice that was hurled at the enemy that threatened the safety of her family. One particular band of fiends, succubus' from the looks of it made the mistake of going after Kain, Maras eyes darkened to nearly black at the sight of her little love pinned to the ground, she could have struck at any moment taking the foul life of the bitch toying with the man she claimed as one of her own but she waited biding her time for the perfect moment. She didnt have to wait long and bellowed Kains name breaking the hold the bitch had on him, a fireball soared through the air finding its mark while Kain took his blade and promptly removed the bitchs' head from her body.

Thank you dear one

Kain called out to her and she returned his thanks with a curt nod, her eyes now blazing. Behind Kain she could see not just the usual demons circling her husband but there were now four of the very same type of soul sucking whores that tried to steal Kains essence creeping up on her Spartan. She might have loved Kain but that love was like a love a brother had for a sister, her love for Griffon was something so strong so powerful there were no words to describe it and with it came a little secret she had always been able to keep to herself. Until now. No woman human or inhuman was going to get the pleasure of playing with the Spartan unless she was that woman. Walking slow and steady towards the fray of the battle her husband fought Mara once again waited for the right moment, and it came when one of them dared to touch Griffon. Her right hand opened and from it bolts of lightning tore through the crackling air.

Get away from him you filthy bitches.

She growled the words as each of them turned towards her just as the lightning shot through their inhuman forms causing them to explode. Reaching Griffons side fire now flying in every direction from her fingertips she reminded him of one thing.

Bitches better learn you are mine Shadowbain.

Side by side husband and wife fought against the darkness that threatned their lives once again....

GABRIEL!

Oriana Shadowbain woke from the darkness with her brothers name tearing from her throat with such force, filled with such intense fear the walls of the prison holding her seemed to shudder from the sound. She bound from the cot she had been placed on paying no attention to whether she was alone or not, the only thing on her mind, the one thing driving her was the the last time she had seen her cherished brother being quickly surrounded by the inhuman armies they had fought side by side against. She crossed the darknened room steering herself towards the only light she could see, a small sliver that creapt in through a crack in the walls around her when it came to her that she could speak again. This knowledge helped to ease the fear that tried to overwhelm her, fear that she scolded herself for feeling, she made a promise to her brother that she would not fail him and god dammit she was going to keep that promise if it killed her. A spell formed on her lips but before the words could fall she was stopped by the sound of an oh so familiar voice cutting through the dark.

It's all warded Ori girl, believe me I tried already. Guess they thought of everything, except maybe for one thing...

Straining her eyes focusing on the general direction of the voice Orianas entire being relaxed so much she could have very easily turned into a pool of boneless flesh. Thank you thank you she repeated silently to whatever higher power was listening, as dire as the situation she found herself in was, it seemed to be not so bad now that she knew her friend and her brothers love was alive.

Rayne... oh my god you damn elf you dont know how happy I am your here, well not here but you know what I mean. Gabriel is on the warpath and if anything would have happened to you... but your safe and once he sees you, once he knows your alright oh it is going to get uglier than it already is.

She heard the elf move towards her, felt when Raynalia was at her side and swore she heard light laughter coming from the elf too.

Ye d'nay know jus' how ugly Ori girl...

A fine brow arched in the darkness, and while she dared not even attempt to read the elfs thoughts it was simple to detect there was more going on than what the elf was telling her.

Care to enlighten me then elf?

From the light shining through the cracked wall Oriana could see the white from the elfs teeth as she smiled.

Your brother is going to be furious beyond furious, maybe so much so that he'll want to strangle me too for being so stupid.

What are you kidding me? Gabriel would never even think to want to hurt you let alone strangle you.

The mage could never in a million years see any reason wny her brother would ever put his hands on the elf in the wrong way and for Rayne to think he might it was just unheard of.

Oh he might when he finds out how I put his son or daughters life at risk... aye ye heard me right, you're going to be an Aunt Ori girl.

It took all of two seconds for the elfs words to sink in and when they did Orianas heart burst with joy, she could already imagine the beautiful elf holding an even more beautiful baby with Gabriel standing over them his face beaming with pride. It was that image that shook Oriana into moving.

He's going to kill you, but first we have to get you out of here.

Just like that the idea came to her. There was a crack in the wall. If she could only find something to widen the opening enough for the elf to slip through Rayne could use her own limited talents of the arcane to get passed the guards and find Gabriel. That was it then, it wasnt exactly the greatest of plans but it was the best she could think of and it was going to have to do. The sooner Gabriel was found the sooner they could all finish what they had come to do and then they could all go home. Home. She thought of what that word now meant with what had grown between herself and Kain and she could picture the warrior so clearly in her mind it was almost as if he were standing right there with her. Soon love, we'll be done with this mess and then we can face my father and my brother in a whole new kind of war....
Take me away
and take me farther
Surround me now
and hold me like holy water

Mara tore into the succubi that were getting ready to assail Griffon, and Kain took the small amount of free time to survey the field of battle. Mara and Griffon would be able to hold their own. He ran in and slashed down a few of the soldiers quickly, I'm going after the others. He called out over the din of battle, they gave him a nod and he tore off into the woods in the direction that Gabriel went, taking out two more of the soldiers with his exit.

He was moving unhindered by foes as Gabriel had wrought a path of destruction that was easy to follow. Then Kain slowed as the bodies lessened, trying to follow Gabriels trail wasn't too difficult, he sheathed his blade since there were no enemies about and let his eyes adjust to the darkness. Having learned some tracking abilities from an elven ranger he met in his ten year journey made it easy to track the large man. He followed it until he hit a clearing, and was glad his sword was in it's case, as he stumbled into the enemy encampment. If his sword had been drawn, Kain never would have survived, he was good, but not that good.

There were thousands of the foe, all encamped, drinking, laughing, bragging, eager to assault Astrail. How could a force this large be built without Astrail being alerted? It didn't matter now, all that mattered was Gabriel, Oriana, and Rayne. Kain would be damned if he left this place without them, any of them. Kain would go through hell itself for his friends, and it seemed now as if hell was staring him in the face.

He knew his cape would give him away, so he took a dagger and marked a tree, then hid the white cape with his family crest in a rabbit hole long abandoned under the tree. He would have to move on without the magical cape that had saved his life countless times. He surveyed the encampent and picked out the same route that Gabriel had taken, not by chance, it made the most sense. Seems the boy does know something aside from battlelust and rage. He thought to himself as he could discern small signs of Gabriel's passing. The most telltale sign was the two dead guards at the entrance to a delapitated fortress. There we're already some more guards investigating their fallen comrades. Kain couldn't risk drawing his blade, that would attract too much attention out here, instead he took out another dagger, and readied himself. Four posessed guards and a lesser demon were at the entrance.

He noticed that two of the soldiers had decent looking long swords, and hurled his daggers at them, dropping each with a well aimed throw, then dashed towards the bewildered three foes that remained. He picked up one of the fallen guards blade's and had just enough time to block a blow from a spear that could have been fatal. He knocked the spear to the side, stepped inside the foe's reach and severed his head. Grabbing the spear with his left hand he wrenched it from the dead man's grasp and whipped it around tripping the demon. The other guard sought the opening that Kain left, but it was merely a feint, and he fell for it. Kain blocked the blow with his armlet and delivered a powerful knee to the guards midsection and executed the possesed foe with a thrust that sunk into the enemy's shoulder and pierced the heart. Letting the guard and the blade drop, Kain took the spear in both hands and plunged it into the lesser demon with all his might, dropping it instantly. He wrenched the blade from the last guard he had killed, then kicked the head into the ruins.

With that he made his way into the ruins, to begin a desperate search for his newfound love, her brother, and Raynalia. I'm coming Oriana. He whispered aloud to himself, then grabbed ahold of the pendant she had given him, and kissed it, as he braced himself for whatever it might be that lie before him.

He had been biding his time, slowly gathering forces in small pockets in the large dense Bhaal forest. Soon Astrail would fall at his knees, and he would be able to make the claim that a few powerful beings before him would not be able to make. The fabled city of Astrail, the home of the heroes, who had become renknowned throughout Avurlund would fall. After that, the rest of Avurlund would be at his knees.

A few of his plans had backfired, with the return of Kain Dragonhand, one of the heroes that him and many that shared his goals so despised. It was only a minor setback though, Roland was unsuccessful in capturing the little bitch, but his older brother had recently been successful. Now the heroes were in his woods, fighting a small detachment of his true force. What a surprise they would be in for when they came upon the true might of his forces.

He was taken from his thoughts as a guard burst into the doorway. Sire, two men have broken into the complex Azun was surprised, who was it? Then he grinned as the guard identified the men. It's Gabriel Shadowbain, and Kain Dragonhand. It was the guard's turn to be surprised as his master burst into an evil cackle. M'lord?

After laughing for a few moments he composed himself. This is perfect, we have the women these men belong to, get them and bring them to me. If they want their lovers back, they will have to face me. Tell the captain to get the troops ready, with the heroes distracted here, we shall move on Astrail and take the city unhindered.

This was almost too perfect, he would deal with one of the fabled heroes here and now, and take out the Shadowbain brat. The offspring that Oriana would produce for Roland's eldest brother would be some of the most powerful Loth Men that would ever come into existence. Ahhh, the Shadowbain blood, infused with magic itself, once I have such elite demons in my posession, along with the city of Astrail, there will be little that stands in my way.

The demon cackled away as the guard left to do as he had bid. If Azun was aware that the vampires had turned on him however he would not be laughing as he was. First Astrail, then Avurlund, then the world. He would make himself Emporer from one corner of the globe to the next.

I'm coming Oriana

Oriana had been working at the crack in the wall for what felt like days but in truth a mere hour had passed, her fingernails were cracked and bleeding, the skin broken, but with more reason than ever before to fight, to find a way to be free she kept digging at the wall, the process was slow going but she was making progress. It was while she whittled away at the wall that she heard Kain so clearly she believed he as waiting for her on the other side and called out to him.

Took you long enough! We have to get out of here Kain, Rayne...

With her face close to the wall she could see through the widened crack now large enough for a hand to fit through, when she saw no one standing on the other side she turned to Raynalia who was looking at her like Oriana should have already realized what happened.

Kain isnt here Ori girl.. you heard him though didnt you?

For reasons she could not explain Orianas eyes welled with tears, her hopes of Kain being there waiting for her were ripped away leaving her to feel like she had punched in the stomach.

I did hear him Rayne, like he was right here...

Raynalias hand lay on her shoulder.

He's close then honey, dont give up, you are going to get us out of here. Are you sure you dont want my help Ori? Moving a few chunks of brick here and there wont hurt.

Oriana shook her head, there was no way in hell she was going to allow the elf to lift a finger, the gods only knew what would be waiting for them once they were free of their prison and the elf was going to need all her strength. Orianas concerns for herself were minimal at best, she was completely focused on getting Rayne out and to the safety that waited for her with Gabriel.

I'm almost done, I have this hunch, and if I'm right we'll both be out of here before any of those things knows we're gone.

As soon as the words left her mouth the sounds of approaching guards reached her ears, and without thinking she stood with her back to the breech in the wall. The door to their prison opened and Orianas heart sank. Nathan strutted in with all the arrogance of snobbish nobility, it took all she had not to lose her stomach, the sight of him made her want to wretch and when he came to her touching her face with his cold hand the only thing that kept her from punching him right in the nose was the thought of Raynalia being left to fend for herself and for the babe she carried in her womb.

The master wants to meet my prize, to see for himself the woman who will be mother to the most powerful of all his minions...

She stared at the man, if he were still a man at all, like he had lost his mind. Did he really believe that she would allow herself to be used for the purpose of breeding any of those things? She'd die first, and she had no problem with taking her own life if that was the only way she would be free. There was still Raynalia and her neice or nephew to think of as well. Nathan did not give her time to think at all, she watched his hand move in unison with his mouth and recognized the workings of a spell. Thankfully she was faster and before she was found without a voice she spoke the words to an incantation of her own and prayed with all her soul that the breech in the wall as enough to shatter the wards that had kept her from weilding her own magicks.

Velavre!

Her voice echoed through the holding cell, the sound of Nathans bellow of rage carried with it, and a bright flash filled the cell nearly blinding the mage who had been able to focus her sight enough to see the elf, the mother of her brothers child, vanish from the cell. It was the last thing she saw before a fist connected with the side of her head rendering her unconcious yet again...

One minute the elf had been in a room, a prison cell of sorts and the next she was out in the open, well not quite the open, Oriana had transfered her to what she believed to be an exit from wherever they were being held, she was still free from the holding but not quite outside despite being able to see the forest before her. Four bodies lay lifeless in the archway telling the elf that help was closer than even she would have ever thought possible. And Oriana was going to need all the help she could get. Damn that woman! Did she think that just because the elf was "safe" that meant everyone was going to pack up and head for home? Gabriel would give his life to see to it that Oriana was kept from harm and brought home where she belonged. Then there was Kain, while she had yet to learn of anything new forming between her mage friend and the warrior she had a very strong suspicion that Orianas champion would not be leaving until he found her alive and well. Alive and well.. oh god she thought, and she was hit with a reality that hadnt come to mind until the haze from Orianas spell had lifted. Nathan had just come into their cell to collect Oriana... she was alone in that hellhole with those fiends!

Oria..!

The elfs enraged scream of the Shadowbain womans name was abruptly stopped when a strong hand clamped down over her mouth. If it hadnt been for her keen sense of smell the elf would have already slit the throat of the man who dared touch her, but the scent that travelled to her nostrils was a familiar one, however recently she had met the man it belonged to she still recognized an ally if not a friend. Relaxing and nodding hoping to signal she understood to be quiet she took in a deep breath of air when the hand moved from her mouth and turned to find the Connor twins standing before her.

God damn Raynalia one of us could have killed you! How in the hell did you get here?!

Kiara Jade Connors tone left no room for anything other than an explanation which the elf quickly provided, with every word spoken she could see the anger rising in Kiaras twins eyes, Kristian Connor might have been a boarish brute with all the subtleties of a pig wallowing in mud but it was easy to see that he cared deeply for Oriana and like the rest of those who loved her would move heaven and earth to get to her. She noticed as she spoke Kiaras eyes shifting, watching someone, something and she was surprised when the woman grabbed her and spun her around. Kain Dragonhand came into full view then and Raynalia felt a great weight lifted from her shoulders. Kristian was already on the move, the two women watched as Kristian approached the warrior, watched as words were exchanged between the two, and knew the exact moment Kristian told Kain of the recent events that Raynalia had relayed to them. The coldness they saw on the champions face sent chills down both their spines. All Raynalia could manage to say was all that was needed to herald in what was sure to turn into a full blown massacre.

The gods themselves could come down from on high and even they wont be able to stop him now....

Kain hadn't noticed that the Conner twins had followed him into the encampment, and rightly so, they were trained for these type of situations, infiltrating enemy compounds and such. They were like shadows of him, moving swiftly, silently. Then he heard a scream that sounded as if it was calling out for Oriana. He stopped in his tracks and wheeled about, brandishing the fallen guard's sword.

It was Raynalia, and the twins, Kristian came up to him and explained what Rayne had told them. She knew at least a bit about this ruin, and that information was enough for him. It was when Kain learned Nathan was alone with Oriana that his face went cold, as adrenaline pumped through him. Have your sister find Gabriel. You get Raynalia out of here, go find Mara and Griffon, tell them to get back to the city and prepare for an assault. I'm going after Oriana. There would be no argument with his words, with that Kain discarded the long sword, and drew his own blade, the brilliant white light that eminated from the blade blinded them all momentarily. Then Kain tore off down the hallway. He didn't care about stealth anymore, these filthy hellspawn would pay for laying a finger on Oriana. Guards and demons tried to stand in his way but Kain dispatched of them quickly, with little effort. So much adrenaline was pumping through his veins that the enemies seemed to move slower, allowing him more time to react.

He was unstoppable, and determined, hell itself would be brought to it's knees right then and there. Much like a certain Shadowbain halls away was doing, a path of destruction lie in his wake. That's when Kain saw her, thrown over Nathan's shoulder. The Loth Elder was moving quickly, having noticed Kain throwing all he could in Kain's path, but no amount of troops would bar the warrior as he marched steadily towards his destination. Taking a dagger from one of the guard's belt's he threw it aiming at Nathan's foot as the Loth man rounded the corner. It caught the tendon and Nathan faltered in his step, and crashed to the ground. Oriana's form hit the floor hard. Kain rounded the corner and Nathan turned around trying to take the offensive, but it was no use, Kain was ready this time. He avoided the blast of magic that had hurled him into a tree and nearly took his life last time, and thrust his blade into Nathan who screamed out in agony as the holy sword begand to destroy him. Touching her was the biggest mistake of your wretched existence. Kain withdrew the blade before Nathan could be killed, he wanted this one's death to be slow and agonizing.

He severed Nathan's arms so he wouldn't be poisoned by the venomous claws, then sheathed the blade and pummelled Nathan's face with his boot until the Loth Elder's face was unrecognizable, the skull litterally fractured inward. Drawing his blade again he severed the bastard's head. After this he moved into a protective position over the mage, and began his stand to hold off a mass of demons that were pouring down the hall after him. They seemed like they would never end, until Kain saw Kiara Jade and Gabriel enter from a door behind the enemies Kain was holding off. They quickly entered into the fray, and the demons realizing they couldn't take down such furocious warrios began to disappear into side halls and doors. Kain then looked over Oriana, the fall had given her a gash on her forehead, and a spear had caught her in the side.

Removing the spear Kain quickly performed his healing technique, he knew that it would drain him but this wasn't important, keeping her alive and well was all that mattered. The light from the blade entered her body and made her wounds fade, and soon she awoke. Kain took her into his arms, forgetting that he did not have his cape on him as a sword plunged into his left shoulder, luckily it was caught on the plate, and didn't damage anything serious. Kain flipped his own blade about and ran the soldier through. The rest of the demons were occupied with the other two, or had already fled.

Oriana had expected Nathan when she awoke, but it was not that treacherous lap dog that looked into her deep violet eyes. I'm here my love. Knowing there was no time to be wrapped up the moment, Kain hauled her to her feet. Just then a fist connected with his face knocking him to the floor. The fist belonged to Gabriel. Kain turned about and looked at the man, bewildered. Gabriel what the hel... Kain stopped as he heard a demonic cackle accompanied by a slow rythmatic clap. Getting to his feet he looked down the hall towards the sound and saw a man standing in blood red armour, it looked almost as if blood was dripping from the metal. There was a large A on the man's forehead.

You have done well to make it this far, I would expect no less from a hero of Astrail, and the son of another. However I am afraid you cannot have Oriana, I have plans for this one.

Kain readied his sword as did Gabriel, both of them moving into a protective position in front of Oriana, Kiara guarding the back, making sure no stray demons ambushed them.

I suppose I should introduce myself. I am Azun the Terrible, Blood Magus of the Bhaal Forest. I am honoured to meet you Kain Dragonhand. If you know what's good for you, you'll hand the girl over. Azun then cackled madly and cracked his knuckles.

Gabriel, take your sister and Kiara and get the hell out of here. I'll see you back in Astrail. Kain then focused his attention on Azun, You aren't what I had expected to find, if you control this rabble, it's no wonder they are horridly inept. You will not have Oriana, not so long as I am alive. Kain stepped forward pointing his sword at Azun, who responded by drawing his own blade. A crimson blade that like the armor seemed to bleed. Your funeral mister Dragonhand.

Oriana, Gabriel, GO, NOW. Kain called out as he rushed forward to enter battle with the leader of the demonic army.

Oriana opened her eyes feeling like she had been run through by a tree, her head was pounding so hard she thought her brain would burst but that did not stop her from gasping in surprise when her violet eyes met with the eyes of the man she knew with everything that she was she loved. It didnt stop her from seeing her brother belting that same man either but before she could utter a single word she was hefted to her feet. Everything that happened after that hit like a whirlwind. The sound of laughter so wicked filled with evil delight reached her ears at the same time her view of the laughters source was blocked by the two men now standing in front of her guarding her like she were the worlds most precious possession. Damn did it annoy her. As intelligent as she was Oriana was the first to admit that when it was her turn to be riled, when something just settled the wrong way with her, the common sense she used to keep everyone else around her grounded and clear of mind did very little for her own self.

You have done well to make it this far, I would expect no less from a hero of Astrail, and the son of another. However I am afraid you cannot have Oriana, I have plans for this one....

Oh hell no, she thought, was he kidding? Plans for her? Wasn't gonna happen.

... I suppose I should introduce myself. I am Azun the Terrible, Blood Magus of the Bhaal Forest. I am honoured to meet you Kain Dragonhand. If you know what's good for you, you'll hand the girl over

Behind Kain and Gabriel the mage began to stew, it started out as a little simmer but with every word she heard her anger festered, becoming hotter until it was all but boiling over. Stay calm Oriana, she told herself hoping to keep herself from acting rashly. Those thoughts were stomped dead into the ground the instant she heard the exchange between Kain and the .. man? Demon? What the hell were they dealing anyway? Between Gabriel being as wide and as and strong as a brick wall and Kain being so damn tall next compared to her she couldnt see a damn thing.

Gabriel, take your sister and Kiara and get the hell out of here. I'll see you back in Astrail. ....You aren't what I had expected to find, if you control this rabble, it's no wonder they are horridly inept. You will not have Oriana, not so long as I am alive.

She knew without having to think on it, without question that neither Kain nor Gabriel would just hand her over to anyone, and she knew it was bound to get really ugly she just didnt know how bad it would be until she heard what the one called Azun had to say about Kains defiance.

Your funeral mister Dragonhand

She did hear Kain order her and Gabriel to go, and she felt a hand on her arm but nothing registered except for the threat against Kain. She had heard the words and understood all too well, and there was no way in hell she was going to leave Kain on his own. He was already racing towards the monster and without so much as a thought she moved with a speed she gained from all years of running from Gabriel. She managed to get ahead of Kain and stopped out of reach of Azun while blocking Kains way. Her violet eyes reflected the anger rolling within. lightning flashed in the violet pools that were now narrowed and staring coldly at her would be captor. Any fear she should have felt did not exsist because Kains life had been threatned and whether anyone there knew it or not, whether Kain knew it or not his life belonged to her and no one was going to try and take it from her. And she sure as hell was not going to let Kain get killed leaving Gabriel on his own. Two of the most important men in the world to her were NOT being left for the bastard to toy with.

I dont know who the HELL you THINK you are Achoo the Sniffly nor do I not know who you think I am but if you want to live you will not touch him.

Intellgent. calm, clear thinking, grounded Oriana Shadowbain walked with slow easy strides until she was nearly nose to chest with Azun. She did not doubt Kain but the power she felt from the being was strong, too strong for one man to take on alone she couldnt lose him, not like this. She looked back at Kain quickly mouthed the words I love you then tilted her head to look up at the one who would take Kains life if allowed. She smiled a thin lipped smile, a secret lay behind those violet eyes, a secret all her own that would be revealed should Azun be stupid enough to touch her.

Azun was surprised to see that she had come to him, rather than having to force his way through Kain Dragonhand and her brother, which was no small feat, even for one such as he. He had not yet regained his full power since his return to this plane of existance.

I'm not afraid of you...

He grinned devilishly beneath the blood red helm that matched the rest of his armour. You would do well to fear me foolish child. Soon all of Avurlund will be at my knees. You will learn to call me master.

It didn't take long for Kain to grab Oriana and pull her back. I told you to run. With that the warrior charged the demon, this time he didn't give the mage time to intervene. Drawing his own blood red katana, he met Kain's holy blade and sparks flew as they hissed upon contacting one another. They entered into a quick bout of swordplay, and Azun realized that if this were to be kept up, Kain would find a weak spot in his style, and the fight would be over. Azun however, had other tools besides his blade, unlike the focused warrior locked in a dance of whirling death with him.

This one's reputation as a master of swordplay was well earned Azun decided. The demon also knew that his armour would provide only minimal protection against a blade that contained the properties of the Dragonhand blade.

The fight ensued for a bit longer, then the two combatants broke apart. Your reputation precedes you mister Dragonhand. However I've had enough of these games.

Seeing that Kain was tired, he only needed to expend a small amount of energy, creating a force that launched Kain back into his comrades, sucking the breath out of him. Then Azun turned his gaze back towards the mage. Now then my darling, shall we? He motioned down the hallway with his free hand.

When Oriana dashed in front of him and confronted the demon Kain was infuriated. They arrived to save her, and here she was throwing herself in front of a being that could probably destroy all of them. Once Kain caught up to Oriana he pulled her back by the arm, staring at her with an ice cold glare that told her he would have no arguments in the matter. I told you to run.

With that Kain lashed out at Azun, the demon lord drawing his own blade. The two entered a dance of blades, Azun clearly having the upper hand when it came to equipment. Kain however held the advantage when it came to the skill of swordplay, and he displayed that expertly. He even compensated for the lack of his cape of protection, the very cape that had saved his life on countless occasions.

The demon was too far out of Kain's current ability however. He was weakened from healing Oriana, as well as the fighting he had went through prior to this duel. He had no armour to speak of, and it seemed as if the demon could match his speed in what appeared to be full plate mail.

They broke off from one another, and the demon shot a blast of energy at Kain, racking the warrior's body from within. When Kain hit the ground near the feet of Oriana, he coughed up blood, and was unable to breathe. Oriana set herself over him, determined not to leave him. Kain struggled to his feet, and readied his blade again. Save yourselves damnit, I'll cover your escape. Kain was in no condition to fight anymore, but the warrior was determined to sacrifice himself so that the others might live, especially Oriana.

Now then my darling, shall we? Kain shook his head, she's not going anywhere with you demon. Kain spoke between coughing up blood. He hadn't noticed it, but the blood red blade had nicked his skin during the fight. That was why he was bleeding so badly from within, it wasn't the blast of force that damaged his innerds this much, though it helped, it was the sword.

Gabriel had laid waste throughout the innards of the ruined temple, the dead lay scattered all about and he was breathing heavily from both exertion and from his wounds. He was terribly tired and he was growing weak and frustrated by not being able to find Raynalia or Oriana. Gabriel had to battle for every inch through the ruins as monsters came out of every hallway and room that he passed. But these were of no consequence for him, they all met a swift and bloody end but every attack was taking it's toll and he was growing weary.

But his weariness subsided when he heard the sounds of battle down another corridor. His heart leapt as he turned the corner and saw Oriana and Kain, and Kain was helping Ori to her feet. He didn't know why but he felt a flash of anger course through him and he charged through the last of his enemies and threw a fist into Kain's face and the man went down hard. Gabriel's icey blue eyes lit with fire as he stared down at the bewildered Kain.

Gabriel what the hel...

Gabriel's chest heaved as his hard raspy breaths were drawn in and out of his battered chest. He stood ready to bring his fist down on the man again when he heard the dark demonic voice that came from behind him.

You have done well to make it this far, I would expect no less from a hero of Astrail, and the son of another. However I am afraid you cannot have Oriana, I have plans for this one.

Gabriel reared on the demon...a collosus in blood red armor. He could feel the dark energy pouring from the monster and it didn't take long for Gabriel to come to the realization that he was far out matched...but the man was angry...this was the beast that had his Raynalia taken. This was the monster that ordered the attack on his father.

Gabriel, take your sister and Kiara and get the hell out of here. I'll see you back in Astrail.

Gabriel cocked his head to Kain and gave the man a glare. There was no was Gabriel was going to just leave, first off he had a score to settle with the demon and he was not going to let Kain play the damn martyr and try to escape his wrath. No that just would not do. But he kept his mouth shut as he watched the three exchange words. Gabriel was just biding his time, building his energy and waiting for his opputunity like a coiled serpent.

He nearly lost it when he saw Oriana charge at the demon but was pulled back at the last moment by Kain. Gabe let out a sign of relief as Ori was pushed back. Gabriel wanted to help Kain, the man was obviously not fairing well and it wouldn't be long before things went sour and he was destroyed.

Save yourselves damnit, I'll cover your escape.

Gabriel almost smiled at Kain. It was a sinister and chiding smile, Gabriel knew he could grab Oriana and leave and Kain would perish, but he knew he couldn't do that, Ori would hate him and Gabriel would also hate himself for allowing the man to die.

Cracking his neck Gabriel took a few steps forward, getting between the demon and Kain. Gabriel was terribly weary and badly beaten but he was a stubborn mule and when he put is foot down there was no swaying him. Turning to Kain he smiled again.

You think I'm going to let you sit here and play the Martyr Kain? I don't think so...my sister would kill you before you had the chance...besides...I still have my own bone to pick with you. Now step back and catch your breath while I distract this hell spawn...there's no way we're not leaving here together.

Gabriel turned from Kain and knew there would be no arguement, even if the man tried Gabriel would not steer from his path now. He turned to Oriana and gave her a little smile then turned back to the demon, staring down the monsters red hate filled eyes with Gabriel's own blue malicious glare.

So you're the scum that tried to take my Raynalia, my sister, and tried to kill my father? So are you done picking on old men demon filth? It's about time you tried a little fresh blood.

Gabriel took his battle stance and gripped his blade in both hands. He wasn't sure he could last long against the demon but he would hold out as long as he could so Kain could build enough energy so the three could escape.

I'm going to send you back to the bastard chaos god that you serve beast. NOW DIE!

He watched as the demon smiled down at the weakened Gabriel and he could hear the monster's laughing in his head even before it escaped his lips, and Gabriel charged, meeting the demon head on in the middle of the great hall.
We the Willing, Led by the Unqualified,
Do the Impossible, for the Ungrateful.

I told you to run... Kain at her feet... Gabriel charging towards the fiend responsible for the chaos that had ripped through her familys core so fiercely, all of it came together in one wrenching moment to become the key to Orianas undoing. Dropping to her knees Oriana knew there was little time to be spent on words or explanations, she worked her own healing magicks as quickly as she could hoping it would be enough to keep Kain from leaving the mortal world where he belonged and was so desperately needed at the same time her heart raced, pounding with fear, if she didnt do something her very best friend, part of what made her whole would be lost to her and if she had to live in a world without her brother because he had to play the hero, she knew without question it would be no life at all. Gabriel, her mother, her father, Kain, all of them might not understand at first but in time, when all was said and done they would realize she did what she had to in order to keep them safe, to assure that Gabriel lived to see his son or daughter brought into the world, and if everything went the way she played it out in her mind, she would be there to continue walking the path she and Kain had started on, she would be there to be the best Aunt and daughter she could possibly be. She rose to her feet just before Gabriel reached Azun, the words to the binding spell shouted from her lips echoed through the ruins and held any who thought to oppose the dark lord in place. Taking a deep breath she dared not look down at Kain nor did she dare look her brother in the eye. Her complete attentions were given to the dark one donning blood red armor and waiting for her. Ever so slowly she crossed the small span of the hall between the two of them, her eyes searching for some sign of humanity beneath the crimson helm and finding none. She stopped just before reaching Azun, her head tilted to one side she seemed lost in thought, the silence surrounding them all was almost deafening and was broken by Oriana herself when she laid out her terms, with doing so she couldnt help but throw in at least one insult, her anger was buried deep inside waiting for the moment it would be unleashed, she knew now was not the time however.

Do you think me so unworthy that you would have your newest breed of minions sired by mere lackeys rather than yourself? Its insulting, unless of course you are incompetent in that area then I suppose it is understandable, but that is neither here nor there now is it? The situation is what it is, and you think you have won, yet I have not agreed to anything and could very well set these warriors free, right now apart they could be beaten, you know this I know this, but together, they would destroy you. Why have I stopped them then I bet your wondering. The answer is simple, they would destory you but that would not be the end of the assaults on Astrail or Avurlund would it?

She paused for a moment and took another deep breath hoping with all her heart that come morning, all of them would be back at the inn safe and sound, and the threat to her world would be completely erradicated, she had to play her part perfectly if her plan was going to work and she hoped like hell that Gabriel and Kain would catch on and understand.

I'm quite sure I know exactly what you want from me and I want something from you in return. If I agree to go with you, to... be mother to your "children" then I want to rule over ALL of Astrail and the surrounding lands within two hundred miles, what you do with the rest of the world is of no concern to me. Surely with the rest of the world at your feet you can grant me this one wish....

Standing with all the regality of a queen Oriana waited to see if the dark lord Azun took the bait laid out before him.

Azun laughed at the the thought of Gabriel daring to challenge him after one so superior to the spartan's son had just been taken down in single combat. He was ready to kill this one when the warrior froze in place, Azun recognizing the incantation cast as a binding spell. The assassin, the hero, and the beast before him found themselves unable to move.

What happened next brought a grin from ear to ear upon Azun's face. Oriana had come to him, and offered herself up to him. However the price would be to give up Astrail and 200 miles surrounding it. It delighted Azun to hear the grunts of pain from Kain as he tried to move, obviously not liking the deal this woman had offered him. Her brother was in a rage, although held, you could see it in his eyes as he tried to break free.

I cannot give you the 200 miles surrounding it, but if you agree to have my children than I shall leave Astrail untouched and in peace.

The demon lord had no true intentions of leaving Astrail alone, once he had his children he would do away with the Shadowbain child, and then raid Astrail, and from there he would rule the world.

It was too easy. Only half of her proposal had been agreed to, it was more than she ever thought she would be given, not that she believed she had really gained anything, oh sure he might have said he would leave Astrail in peace but those words were hollow and no victory at all. She was well aware that if she truly did go through the horrid act of bearing the dark lords children she would be dead as soon as the last drew its first breath. Not that she had any intentions whatsoever of becoming a demon breeder. Still she had to pretend like she had just been handed the world and truth be told she didnt know if she had it in her to do so when she really wanted to unleash her brothers wrath and Kains fury, both of which she could feel burning her back as surely as if she had touched the raw searing heat of the sun. She was going to be so dead. Not because Azun was going to kill her, but her brother and Kain were probably already thinking of the hundred different ways they were going to take her life as soon as they got their hands on her, she couldnt think about that just then though, she would deal with them later, at the moment she had more important matters to tend to.

Let my brother and my friend go now, safe, in one piece and unharmed and I will come to you....

And she would go to him but she had no intentions of ever staying with him, in fact if she got her way they would be free of the threat Azun brought to Astrail, to the world and they would all be free soon.

Azun stepped back and sheathed his blade, this whole scenario was highly amusing. He had gotten the Shadowbain girl to give herself to him. Kain was nearing death, it was amazing how steadfast the warrior could be, so close to death. Azun snapped his fingers and called out a command, soon a wizard appeared at his side. Teleport those three back to the forest. The wizard did as he commander had bid, and soon the assassin Kiara Jade, and the warriors Kain and Gabriel were found just outside the enemy encampment. Give them a few minutes, then send a search party for them, bring back their heads. He told the wizard in the abyssal tongue, and the mage soon disappeared.

He then turned his focus to Oriana Shadowbain, for many long years he had planned on taking her from her parents, but now she would be coming to him willingly. How foolish these humans were, sacrificing themselves in turn for one another. Soon he would have his children, Kain, Gabriel and that other bitch would be dead, and then Astrail would fall. From there he would rule over all the world.

Now then my beautiful Queen, come with me. He took his helmet off, and showed his face to her. Azun was rather handsome at one point in his life, but his current state had twisted his form, and his face. His eyes were sunken, his hair wilting away. Let us go to my chambers. He offered a hand out to her, holding his helmet underneath his arm.

Using telepathy he communicated to another wizard that had been present the entire time. If she tries to do anything to harm me, counter it. Be ready.

It had to be done, it didnt matter if she didnt believe she could do it, her timing had to be precise, her abilities could not fail her, she watched the wizard called to the dark lord and waited for what she believed to be the right amount of time for the teleportation spell to be cast, the mage had dissappeared so it would take some time for Azun to be informed that it had not been the wizard who had transported them. In her mind she repeated over and over the words to a counterspell that would have almost the same effects, the ones she loved would be whisked away alright but they would not find themselves in a position to be slaughtered like defenseless children. Did the dark lord believe her so naive as to think he would hold true to his word? Did he really believe she would trust him with the lives of her family and the man she loved? If she played her part well enough he would indeed believe all these things, and so far he hadnt given her any indication that he doubted her innocence.

We hold the fires of the sun Kain Dragonhand, you will know when to come for me again...

The silent reminder had been sent by sheer will and will alone, she needed Kain to hear her, that need was so great her words seeped into his mind just as he and Gabriel, Kiara and Raynalia were deposited on the steps of the inn, with her minds eye Oriana could see them safe in Astrail, but that image was shattered when she looked upon the face of the dark lord who decivingly dubbed her his Queen. It took all she had not to shirk away or to show any sign of the disgust she felt at the sight of him, she was by far a shallow person but the ugliness he carried inside did indeed reflect on the outside. Forcing herself to remain calm and steady Oriana placed her hand into his and nearly jerked away at how cold the touch was. Silently she prayed to the higher powers that her magicks would be enough, that her will would be enough to get her through the next hour.

Kain tried his damndest to break the binding spell that Oriana had placed on all of them. Why would she do such a thing? What happened next made Kain want to empty the contents of his stomach, how could she? They came here to save her and Raynalia, and she was giving herself to the enemy? Kain wouldn't have it, but there was little he could do about it.

Then a wizard appeared, and teleported them away, to the inn at Astrail.

We hold the fires of the sun Kain Dragonhand, you will know when to come for me again...

NO! Kain was weak, and tired, but this couldn't be happening. He quickly moved outside and whistled, it was only moments before Megiltura appeared at his side. Come old friend, we may well go to our graves tonight, but we must go. The horse understood it's rider perfectly, and bolted to the gates, and soon Kain was back on his way towards the ruins. This time there would be no sneaking in, this time anything who thought to get in his way would be cast aside. The healing that Oriana had given him briefly was enough to stop the bleeding, and the battered warrior, blade out was fast approaching the forest.

Moving through the forest was slower, but it didn't matter, Kain had to get back to the ruins, he had to get to Oriana before that vile wretched demon could lay his hands on her. Foolish girl, how do you think your father and mother would feel if they found out what had happened? The thought that Azun was going to make children with his beloved Oriana made Kain's heart sink.

Azun took the mage in his hand, and brought her up to him. Lowering his head he met her gaze with black, empty, soulless eyes. His tongue shot out and licked her cheek, the long black tongue looked as if it had been diseased. Now I see why Roland wanted you so very much. He laughed as she had shuddered from his touch, and the feel of his tongue on her skin.

He then walked the woman down the halls towards another room that had an demonic looking door. I have things I must attend to unfortunately my dear. We shall have to meet later on this day to bring the world the most powerful children it has ever seen. Before she could react he opened the door and threw her inside the room, then slammed the door shut and locked it.

This room was much like the one she had been in before, warded against spells, designed specifically to hold her within it. The Blood Magus smiled, putting his helmet back on. From within her cell Oriana would be none the wiser. She would be unable to view the outside world, she would be unable to watch as Azun killed her mother and father, her brother and her beloved. She wouldn't be able to see Astrail crumble, and Azun break his promise. Then she would bear his children and he would be done with her. Everything was slowly falling into place.

Dont do it Ori girl, dont puke, she forced herself to stay still, not to run like a mad woman from the.. the thing that had slobbered along the side of her face, and while she didnt lose the contents of her stomach she couldnt help the shudder than racked her entire being. It made her even more ill knowing that shudder had pleased the dark lord, but she wasnt given time to think on it or to act on anything, because she was being hauled down the hall and the next thing she knew she was thrown into a room that she knew at once was charmed to keep her prisoner. She had expected no less.

I have things I must attend to unfortunately my dear

My family, my love are not things, oh yes I know you never meant to keep your word, but I never meant to keep mine either she thought in the deepest part of her mind that not even the foulest of magic could reach. Thus far she had been able to keep the deepest of her thoughts concealed and by doing so she had a secret advantage, one she didnt think the dark lord would even think about let alone expect her to use. She vaguely remembered being wounded earlier, but one thing was as clear as crystal to her. Kain had healed her with the most holiest of magicks, a healing done not only by his own special brand of the arcane but one aided by the most purest of magic of all... love. Love was something Azun knew nothing of, the love the Shadowbains had for each other and the people closest to them was the tie that bound them all, that saved them all over and over and would save them all once again. That love was made even more strong the moment she and Kain stopped fighting against what was inevitable bringing forth something strong and unbreakable. Her hand went to the half sun hanging from the golden chain she wore around her neck, if she was right, the arcane gifts flowing through her veins coupled with the power of that one pure emotion would be enough. Closing her eyes she burrowed down deep into herself calling for the ancients of her line to lend her aid in her task, deep in concentration refusing to fail the air around the mage shimmered, a sound like a long sigh of vengance echoed through the ruins, the winds whistled as if telling of an unknown coming. A silver strand of light, like a shining strand of a web snaked its way from the mages chest twisting and turning slowly taking shape until an exact copy of the mage stood silently beside her with knowing violet eyes. It took Oriana a moment for the reality of what she had done to sink in, she had even gone so far as to rub her eyes just to make sure she was hallucinating, and when the copy of herself did not disappear she nearly shouted for joy. There was no time for any victory cheers just yet, her copy still had to stand the test again Azun, if they succeeded the moment the dark lord tried to take who he believed to be her the magicks Kain had used, the same magic that was purged from the mage would spark becoming the weapon used to destroy him and all those that served him. All that was left to do was wait, in the meantime, Oriana searched the room for a place to hide herself until the opportunity to escape presented itself.

That stupid girl!!

Raynalia ranted and raved while pacing the earth along the outskirts of the Baal forest, Kristian and Kiara Connor were with her watching, waiting for the right time to step in to keep the elf from running back headlong into the danger Oriana had freed her from. They didn't need to wait long. Kiara reached the elf first grabbing her around the waist from behind and holding tightly to her to keep her from rushing back into the darkened woods.

Dammit Rayne she can take care of herself, if you go running back into that mess, think of what it would do to Gabriel!

Arms flailing the elf tried to escape her friends hold, her common sense said the woman was right but how could she stay in the arms of safety knowing that Oriana might not come home alive?

Dammit yourself Kiara Jade, ye c'nay think I be stayin' 'ere with Ori in so much trouble! Would nay be in this pickle iffin' I'd a been more careful! We be needin ta...

Her words were cut short, the sounds of hooves beating against the earth reached her ears, in one swift movement Kiara was laying flat on her back and the elf was already on the move heading towards the sound. Kain Dragonhand came into view and the elfs heart leapt at the sight. He looked worn and beat up but she knew what was driving the man, and hoped that his need to bring Oriana home alive and in one piece would allow her to return with him back to the holding.

KAIN!

She bellowed his name, obviously he had heard her just as he rode past because the next thing she knew he was beside her looking down at her from atop his steed.

I'm going with you, the less you argue the less time is wasted.

Without waiting for an answer she flung herself behind the warrior.

He heard Raynalia call out his name and it caused him to pause briefly, that gave Raynalia time to try climbing up atop his horse. Kain blocked her access as she flung up behind him.

I'm going with you, the less you argue the less time is wasted.

Kain let out a frustrated growl. You would only slow me down elf. What is it with you women, we come to save you and you wish to dive back into the fire. Go with them now, Gabriel is in Astrail, you MUST prepare the town's defenses. War is coming and it will not wait for my return. He saw Raynalia's stuborness and shook his head and tried to calm himself. Go Raynalia, you are needed more back at home, Gabriel needs you.

With that Kain whispered to his horse and they were off again, moving quickly through the trees, Kain passed the site where Mara and Griffon were fighting, they were no longer there. Kain hoped that they had taken his message and went back to the city, it needed it's leader.

Soon he made his way to the clearing where the demons were encamped. He stopped to don his cape, he would need all the protection he could get. Finding the tree he marked was no problem and in a matter of moments it was on. He remounted, and readied his sword.

He burst into the clearing, his blade came down in swift motions at the enemies who were taken by surprise. They tried to react but hardly had the time. As he neared the entrance to the ruins Kain stood atop the saddle. Get back to safety Megiltura, I shall return. The horse understood and came to a stop, Kain had readied himself for the projection and soon was rolling to his feet in the entrance to the ruins while his faithful steed quickly rode back towards Astrail.

Alright you bastard, you won't get so lucky this time. Kain said to himself as he ran into the ruins. So fast and blinding was his approach that the majority of the demons hadn't known he was there, and those that did already lie dead.
