Ye not be goin' no where Dragonhand....

Heads turned at the most inopportune time. Raynalia who had no idea that Mara had stilled the space they all occupied within the room had stormed in not needing to be told shit was hitting the fan and promptly speared Kain to the floor. The elfs size often worked to her advantage, none would believe the tiny woman possessed the strength she did especially when she was riled, and at that moment after the eerie feeling she had gotten and what she had seen when she opened Orianas door, she was more than riled. Planting herself atop the warrior she looked down at him not daring to look at Oriana, she had already seen enough and it turned her stomach. It was that action that broke Maras concentration and sent the room into a downward spiral.

Get the hell off me Kiara! She needs me! You know how long I have waited for her to...

Kristian its NOT HER! Look at that thing.... no wait dont!....

Kiaras hand went to her brothers eyes while she tried to avoid Orianas blood red stare. Kain bucked beneath the elf trying to twist himself free and Rayne looked almost helplessly to Mara as she went soaring through the air. Before she knew it both Kristian and Kain were on their feet and damn near fighting each other to get to the mage floating above all their heads. Only when Oriana managed to lock her eyes on the elf, only when the elf had been stupid enough to try and steel a glance at her friend did the severity of what was happening hit the elf. Now on her feet Raynalia screamed the words to a simple spell, she knew it wouldnt hold, she wasnt strong like Mara or Oriana but she prayed with all that she was it would be enough to stop the men tearing at each other until Mara could bind them all soundly. Her prayer was answered by a sudden crackling of the air and a blinding light and when the elf opened her eyes, they were all save for Oriana, on the first floor of the inn....

Bewildered at the sight of his beloved Kain lept forward to bring her into his embrace. Unsure of what was even going on, only knowing that she was in trouble Kain had acted wtihout thinking clearly but not under the same effect that had Kristian so enraptured.

Raynalia came out of nowhere to knock the all too unaware warrior to the ground, but it wasn't long before Kain was on his feet, and at the same time Kristian regained his footing. As the warrior went to the mage, the assassin's jealousy played out and he ripped Kain back. The world had just gone insane and Kain couldn't understand why Raynalia and Kristian were preventing him from getting to Oriana.

Then their surroundings changed, and they were back in the main room of the inn. Let go of me... When Kristian did not, Kain levelled the wild-eyed assassin with a fist that carried with it the anger of being denied access to Oriana.

Without a second though the Bladesinger made for the stairs again.

Mara Shadowbain watched the man she loved like a brother fight to make his way to the woman who was her flesh and blood daughter in silence. She needed to watch, needed to absorb the rush of emotion from every participant in the scene that had played out not only within the walls of Orianas bedroom but from where they all were right then and there. Mara had always believed since the night of Orianas conception that her daughter was different, she was not unlike any other mother in her thinking, except Mara knew her daughter truly was destined for great things, even if at times those things were terrible, they were still great, she just never expected it all to begin so soon. What lay in wait for her daughter was unknown to any of them but Mara knew it was too soon for them to lose her now. Taking in the sights of the people around her Mara quickly but carefully studied each of them. Kiara with her grace and wit, her firey spirit knew no bounds, Kristian the eldest of the twins, was just as spirited with a passion all his own, Raynalia her daughters truest friend and her sons truest love, was in a class all her own, her own spirit perhaps the strongest of them all. And then there was Kain, strong yet fragile, wise yet so innocent, pure yet twisted, once broken now whole. These children, no these young men and woman would be the new heroes of Astrail... even if they had yet to know it they would one day.....

Mara knew Kiara and Raynalia would be able to contain Kristian and she voiced as much before she faded from view in wispy trails of smoke. Aye the girls would be fine handling Kristian, Kain on the other hand was a different matter altogether, Mara knew no one would be able to keep him from rushing in to get to the mage trapped inside the heavily warded room, wards that would kill him should he try one time to many and fail and Mara knew she was the only one that would be able to reach him in the state of mind he was now in.

She appeared right where the stairs met the hall just as Kains foot fell on the last step. Though her arms were folded across her chest her eyes were soft and understanding, her tone calm but stern when she spoke.

You know I cannot allow you past this point, not yet little love. You saw with your own eyes what has become of Oriana, she is not herself Kain, and she will kill you.

It pained her to say those words to him but they were what he needed to hear. Whatever held Oriana was dark cold evil and it would matter very little if the warrior lost his life but when it was over, when Oriana was once again the Oriana they all knew what would it do to her knowing it was by her hand in a sense that took that life?

Do not rush to act before we know what holds her so Kain. Our Oriana is still in there but she is not in control and you cannot put yourself at risk in a such a way. We will find an end to this but we all have to be smart about doing so.

Mara appeared before him, telling him that he could not go to Oriana. Why? It made no sense to him, whatever was happening to the mage the warrior was sure that he could reach her, and locking her in her room seemed like it would not help at all.

You asked me to come here Mara, why then do you stop me now? She needs us, not just me, all of us. Oriana is still in there I know it, and locking her away is no way to help! Out of my way Mara! Surely Oriana would not kill him!

He still wasn't thinking clearly however and moved ahead, but Mara put herself between him and the door, forbidding access. Kain went to push her out of the way, but was stopped as she grabbed him by the wrist and spun him back around. The look in her eyes told Kain that she would not allow him to enter the room, and no matter how much more physically powerful he was than she, he knew that her magic would keep him at bay. Still he moved to slip out of her grip and goto Oriana, when those same eyes that told him he would be stopped showed him something else. pain, and sadness.

It melted Kain's determination to goto Oriana, clarity returned to his mind now, and he knew Mara would not stop him without cause. Her eyes told him that she wanted nothing else than to march right in there and help her daughter, they told him that as a mother Mara was frightened for her little girl and suddenly the warrior was awash in guilt. He was thinking selfishly, of course Mara wouldn't stop him if she thought he could help. He pulled her to him in a hug.

Yes, we will find a way. Kain knew that it had something to do with Azun and so he knew where at least he might be of help. The demon would surely pay for this, and his many other sins. The image of Azun striking Oriana down flashed in his head and anger began boiling deep inside the warrior, and then the bells of the city sounded, the enemy was near.

Postby Kiara & Kristian » Fri Jul 20, 2007 1:02 am

All sorts of hell broke loose in the span of a heartbeat. One minute they were in Orianas room, Kiara was trying to hold onto to her brother to keep him from getting himself killed, Raynalia was on top of Kain Kiara assumed for the same reason and the next thing she knew they were all in the main part of the inn. Without so much as blinking an Mara Shadowbain was there and then she wasnt, Kain was barreling up the stairs and the assassin with the help of her elf friend were now having a go round with the twin Kiara believed would never really hurt her. At least she believed it until her brother had her pinned face first against a wall, one hand snaked around her throat squeezing lifes breath from her and the other twisting her arm so violently she swore she was starting to hear the cracking of bone. Hot tears burned her eyes but she would not cry at the same time she relaxed her body to ease the white hot pain that tore through her shoulder and burned at her throat. The twins had often gone after one another pushing as far as they dared stopping before either one of them really brought harm to the other, but this, this was different. Kristian she believed with the trance he was in would kill her and she simply could not allow that. She heard Raynalia cussing at her brother in her elvish tongue and felt her brother jerk back slightly, it was that moment Kiara chose to muster every ounce of strength fear and anger she had rolling inside to kick back as hard as she could catching her brother in the groin. It wasnt the first time Kiara had kicked her brother that way, it was a dirty tactic and one she rarely used against him but sometimes one just had to fight unfair and it was unfair that Kristian was so enchanted he didnt know he was killing her so it was only right she did what she did. Afterall it was matter of survival. He didnt make a sound which confused the assassin but she didnt give it too much thought, he had all but dropped her and she was too busy breathing in great gulps of air to really care at that moment, until it dawned on her Kristian was no longer in the room. A creeping cold weaved its way through the youngest Connor, she knew the feeling and became too aware of her brother in trouble. Wincing while she sprang to her feet Kiara did not offer any explaination when she raced up the stairs that lead to the second floor and to Orianas room. She barely stopped long enough to rattle her fears to Mara who for reasons she did not know was being cradled in Kains arms. Breathing heavily she all but stuttered....

Kristian... Oriana... you dont understand... we're trained... he could get in.... please... get him out!

She didnt think. She didnt have to. Kiara went straight to the window that looked out to the world, opening the window she slipped through and a few moments later the sound of shattering glass was heard from inside Orianas room followed by a scream of pure rage.

Get the hell away from my brother you nasty bitch!!!

As if on cue the door to Orianas room opened and inside Kristian Connor was wrapped in the arms, in the kiss of Oriana Shadowbain.

We are so fucked.

Raynalia who had rushed up after Kiara gave voice maybe not quite as eloquently as the others might have to what was happening right before their very eyes. If Maras magic could not keep someone out, how would they then keep the evil in....

And then the bells tolled.

Kiara came bounding up the stairs and then the door to Oriana's room opened and this time an entirely new sort of rage coursed through Kain's body as his beloved mage was kissing the assassin. All sort of conscience thought left the man, and Kain who was unused to being out of control once again slipped into that rage that had been overcomming him so much as of late. Barrelling forward through the few wards that were left in place, not noticing that he was assailed by magic. Forgetting that he had a responsability to the people of Astrail to lead them in the upcoming battle.

He slammed into Kristian with such force that the assassin was pushed back by the window, where his sister promptly grabbed ahold of him, but he was quickly no longer a concern of Kain's. He turned to face the mage and did not recognize the eyes that stared back at him. She tried to place Kain under the same spell, but Kain was already under a spell with the real mage, and at that moment he did all he could think of doing and digging the pendant out of his shirt, the one that Oriana had given him, his half of the sun, and quickly found hers and brought them together.

Remember who you are Oriana... Was all he could say before whatever magics that had triggered when he entered the threshold of the room dragged him to the ground, helpless and weak, unable to move any longer.

Such a sweet tasting little pet is he not? The voice inside Orianas head purred tinged with an evil she knew she did not lay claim to, but if this were true then why did she hold so tightly to the eldest of the Connor twins? Why did she have this near insatiable need to consume the man who was a treasured friend both body and soul? He is not a pet, she argued with herself at the same time she could not help but greedily, with a hunger she didnt know she possessed move her mouth over his in an attempt to devour him? NO! She shouted inside her mind hoping to stop the chaos the rest of her was welcoming, and it was chaos in perhaps its best form, she did not love nor want Kristian in that way yet she was ready, willing to take him but why? Why when she knew a love, a pure love... a love that would surely wither and die if she continued on the path that she had started wandering down. Why? Because you know deep down you are wicked and twisted Oriana and this one suits your needs perfectly... wild willing more than able strong of body and a hunger that does indeed match your own. He wants you, he has made that clear more than once so why not give him what he wants... why not give us what we need, what we crave. I DONT WANT THIS! She screamed inside herself and tried to fling Kristian from her but the more she tried to push him away the harder she clung to him until for a reason she could not explain to herself just then he was no longer in her arms. Through eyes that were hers but not her own at the same time Oriana watched Kain Dragonhand storm the room and knock Kristian back, back and far from her, through those eyes she gazed upon two halves of a pendant brought together and now made whole while the familiar voice that touched her heart carried itself to the core of her soul.

Remember who you are Oriana

With those words memories of times gone by and more recent events flashed through the mages mind. Gabriel trying to kill her when she was all of three, a black stallion allowing her to take him for an afternoon ride, hours spent studying in an onyx tower, lessons of stealth and steel from a brother and friends who adored her, a tea party with a fierce warrior who pretended to be a prince just to appease his five year old daughter, an elven maid broken and bruised now looking at her brother the same way blue eyes looked at her not too long ago.... blue eyes.... blue eyes....

The being that was Oriana looked down to find those blue eyes glazed over and closing, the light in those eyes seemed to dim and suddenly the mages head snapped up looking into the sapphire eyes of the one she called mother....

Mama help him....

As suddenly as she had looked to her mother Orianas head jerked back violently, her body twisted unnaturally and a piercing high pitched scream shook the rafters of the inn. Something black and billowy exploded from the mages chest, shot towards the ceiling and erupted in a ball of fire, at the same time Oriana fell to the floor beside the warrior, her skin retained its normal hue and a delicate hand reached for the fallen warrior before all was still in the room.

The time for watching was over. There were reasons that Mara would not interfere in the saving of her only daughter, as much as it pained her to be more of a spectator than a participant, she was well aware that the only thing that could have saved her was seeing someone she loved by choice, not someone she was raised to love, in danger of losing their life. Granted Mara would never have allowed true harm to come to either Kristian or Kain but Oriana had to in a sense defeat her demons on her own. There was another reason she was not allowed to aid her daughter, a reason that would cause many to turn their anger towards her once they learned of it but the end result was worth that anger. Without being noticed, Mara slipped from the room and was soon in her own room staring into an anciet mirror, if one would have walked in on her they would have thought she was talking to herself. Soon after she was rummaging through a well hidden even more ancient chest. When she found what she was looking for she returned to her daughters room. Still silent the warrior mage with tears of relief, joy and the utmost pride wrapped robes of the blackest velvet around her daughter and on bended knee bent low whispering in her daughters ear.

You have done so well my beautiful daughter. I am so proud of you... your D'ni sends his regards and wants you to know he is proud of you, that he never doubted you. He only regrets the timing because he knows what we face and he has indeed sent his most powerful magi to aid us.... you are free now Oriana.

Straightening Mara then began barking her orders once again, now that Oriana had passed her Test the warrior mage could breathe again and focus once more on the true problem at hand. At the same time she was seething with anger towards her husband and her son where the hell were they? She couldnt stop too long to think on it however there were more important issues to tend to.

Kiara... Rayne... take to the tunnels make sure they are clear, IF they are clear start with the children, you know where to take them, their mothers will follow but your main priority is to keep the wee ones safe. I will tend to your brother Kiara do not worry for him he will be on his feet in no time at all. I will explain what happened when we have more time. Make sure that Gregory and Orin accompany you, I do not doubt either of your talents but if there is trouble I do not want you alone.

Each woman nodded in understanding and went on their way to carry out their tasks leaving Mara to tend to the trio affected the most by Orianas test.....

All that his mind could remember as he fell under the weight of the magic pressed into him from the wards were those eyes. Eyes that should have been violet, eyes that were full of life. Instead what he saw were red orbs that pierced his very soul, their intent wicked and unholy....

Then he found himself in a dreamscape, nothing familiar just a dark red haze all around him. He called out for somebody, anybody, but no reply came only the silence within the hellish fog....

Then memories flashed in front of him...

Take care of him, and keep him safe, one day he will learn, until then nothing! Father?

His sister being struck down by an orcish blade, his mother being violated by the greenskinned brutes, his father, a farmer, unable to protect them, his adopted family, no his family slain before him...

On the road with only one companion, a pale-skinned elf, a childhood friend. Together they were hunting down those who attacked their village....

Mercenaries, men for hire, ruthless, his friends, betrayal....

A small tavern in a little town called Astrail, a group of unusual people. One, a woman from a foreign land across the sea, a large almost barbarian like man from the uncharted west, an elf that seemed to live in the darkness, a weary warrior enjoying his own company at the bar. A fragile mage that sought respite from the dreary weather. Then the attack came....

A crazed sirian wizard seeking to bring all of Avurlund under his control. His friends from the tavern lying around him dead, a sacrifice, his life for theirs, his life for the hope of the land....

A similar experience, was he dead again? Was his soul searching for the gate to pass on..?

A magnificent horse, black as the night, Megiltura....

A dense forest on another land, he was travelling. Her face so beautiful, her curves so appealing, but a mask! An elven witch vying for his love, charmed, unable to resist, then a friend, a ranger....

The elven community in desperate need, on the brink of collapse, the bladesong...

The witches son, a brutal battle on the high seas, regret....

Homecoming....

Her face before him, piercing the fog, calling his name...

I can't.. I can't find my way!

A trumpet sound, instinctive reaction brought his hand to close around his sword. A light, penetrating the haze blinding him.

Then it was clear, her face no longer hidden by the red, Mara! I'm here!

Welcome back dear one.

He brought himself sit up, shaking the groggyness from his head.

Little mother.. what happened.. Oriana!

It pained Mara that she had harbored such a secret from her daughter, from her beloved little warrior, but she knew it needed to be done. It pained her knowing that each of them would suffer some consequence. She knew that each of the three touched by the evil that had been inside Oriana would suffer in their own small way, two of them would suffer perhaps just a little more for having been unknowing participants in the test of the magi and the thought riled Mara, but it was not the time for anger, she would in her own time in her own way deal with the Archmage Azrael, for now she would tend to her little flock and bring them back, were they willing, to the reality of their true selves. It had been difficult at best, chosing which loved one to start with, Oriana she knew would make her own way back, had made her own way back, that much was evident when her daughter looked up at her pleading for her to help Kain, it was clear when Oriana crumpled to the ground and her first reaction was to reach for Kain. Oriana had exceeded even the Archmages expectations, and managed to surprise him when Mara revealed to him the black robes she had pulled from the chest. The chest itself was made of magic, able to decipher or rather predict which color robes an apprentice mage would chose and by doing so chosing their Order. Azrael was of the darkest Order and had always had the belief that Oriana would don the robes of a white mage, or even perhaps the royal blue. Mara preferred to believe the reason behind the black robes was Orianas way of being a light in the darkness.... but only time would tell. Shaking her head she cleared her thoughts and chose to begin reviving Kristian. She chose him because as strong as he was she was aware that Kristian hid within him a heart very capable of turning on him, not to say that he was weak, far from it he was just not accustomed to being assaulted in such a way especially by the object of his well hidden affections. No Kristian Connor was not weak but those feelings he kept to himself could have very well been his undoing.

It took more time than she liked but Mara was able to relax if only a little when Kristian Connor opened his emerald eyes, what she saw in them tore at Mara, he was looking at her like someone who had been ripped from one world, a world he would have gladly lived out the rest of his days in and was rudely deposited in a nightmare.

No Kristian you arent dreaming, not anymore, this is your world Kris....

She retold him everything that had happened with Oriana and explained to him about her Test as quickly as she could leaving out only the minor parts then ordered him to sleep making sure he did so with a simple spell. Now able to focus on Kain she sought out her little warrior who was caught in his own whirlwind, she called out to him in a way causing a brilliant white light to fill his mind pulling him from the eye of his storm and when he sat up she was not surprised the last word to fall was her daughters name. Smiling her best smile she took the warrior beneath the chin and turned his head so he could see for himself the mage sleeping beside him curled almost into a ball, her mass of curls going every which way leaving her face uncovered for him to see that she was safe.

Shes alive and well little love.... it was her test.

She explained in detail this time everything she had known everything that had happened and why it happened and when she was through she waited to see just what her little warriors reaction would be.

If this is your idea of a joke Mara, it wasn't funny. Whoever this mage is, he will pay for what he has done, this is no time for something like this! Azun will be on our doorstep soon. Get things in order here Mara, this little debaucle might have costs us getting the civilians out of Astrail on time, and know that as a conspirator that you are responisble for their lives.

He was boiling with rage, how could anyone fathom to bring such a thing upon the leaders of the city at this crucial moment. Thoroughly disgusted with his friend and whoever this mage Azrael might be, Kain moved to his feet. The magical effect that had put him near death now completely reversed. Regardless whatever had happened Kain knew that he could lose himself in the fight and forget about it all.

get ready for what is to come, that is all I have to say to you.

Scooping up Oriana he carried her out of this room and brought her to his, laying her upon the bed so that she would sleep more comfortably. Of all things Kain wished to see her out of the city with the populace for he wasn't sure that him and those brave souls guarding the city would be able to stop Azun, and he couldn't stand the thought of what might happen to her if Azun could get ahold of her once again. Leaning over he kissed her forehead and then stood to his feet.

I will do my best to keep you safe love. Rest easy for now.

Turning about Kain made way for the exit of the hall of heroes and to prepare himself for the battle.

Of course he was angry and she could not blame him, could not fault him for letting that anger spill out towards her and she did nothing to stop him when he took Oriana from her bed and carted her off towards his own room but she was waiting for him when he exited the room and stepped out into the hall. She might have understood all that anger and she would accept it, after all she was in part responsible for allowing it to happen but Kain knew nothing of the world that Oriana chose to live in and if he was going to love her daughter he was going to have to accept that sometimes the world moved in ways that were less than pleasent, convienent or enjoyable. Much like a mother would a son, much like she did with her beloved Spartan, Mara reached up and took the warrior by the ear bringing him to her. Her eyes were soft and shone with perfect understand but her tone was stern and full of authority.

You are right in your anger little love I will not deny you that but remember just who it is you are speaking to before you dimiss them so easily. There are a great many things that are going to happen that you will not like or agree with should you chose to build a life with that woman sleeping in your bed but you will have to accept them if you are to accept her Kain. She passed her test Kain, be happy for her or at least pretend to be when you see her next.

That being said the warrior mage set loose the man who stood near 5 inches taller than her and as she made her way down the hall she called over her shoulder...

Rayne and Kiara along with 2 of the citys men, men who are loyal and have served my husband and this city faithfully have already taken to the task of seeing the women and children to safety. Remember who I am little warrior... I do know my place.

He was still angry with her, and it only grew as she chided him like a mother to a child. When she released him and walked off, to him he almost felt as if she was taunting him, which further incensed him.

I just... Then he simply shut his mouth, he didn't care. To him, what had happened was wrong, and it could have been very costly. He moved to the window waiting for her to disappear before he slammed a fist into the wall. I still don't understand Mara... how could you? It sickened him to know that Oriana was being tested like that, and he wanted little to do with Mara at that moment. Shoving it all from his head he had to make an appearance before the men. He knew some would be questioning the noises that came from the Hall and they had to be reassured that things were fine.

Giving her enough time to make her way to wherever she was heading and far out of his sight, Kain then made his way to exit the Hall again, but not before stopping and checking on Oriana once more.

A short while later Kain was up on the battlements, waiting the approaching enemy, and as if on cue they arrived just as the sun dipped below the horizon. It was time for war.

Hang on to it little love, of course I scolded you like a mother would a child, you are after all in a sense my child and I love you no less than I love my own children, you dont understand now but you will when the time is right.....

Her thoughts carried on the winds touching the mind of the warrior standing on the battlements taking in the sight of the oncoming minions, a warm dampness touched his cheek at the same time, Maras way of letting Kain know she wasnt really angry with him. Mara could not enter minds as her daughter could but if a thought was strong enough, especially if it was projected at her she could hear those thoughts and convey her own in return. Some would not be able to understand the difference but any apprentice mage would know, Kain however was no mage but Mara felt sure he would hear her, and that he would understand. With Kain taken care of as best she could at least for the moment the mage in plain sight for all to see her, dressed in her own form of armor pushed her way through the men of Astrail lined in rows, and she realized they had formed ranks. A small smile touched her lips, if Griffon were there to see... NO! She couldnt think about him now, nor could she think of Gabriel, her husband and her son were still nowhere to be found. She knew with her soul neither were dead and so she assumed they were off together with a plan of their own and this... this would be Maras own secret weapon... her anger, no her rage would result in many of the demons deaths.
Now standing before the army of Astrail Mara said all that she needed to.

Be still brave ones, keep your silence, let them think we believe all is well and quiet, let them think we believe we have won a great victory. We know better and soon so shall they. You have done all of Astrail proud and there is no one prouder of you at this moment than I am.... you know what is to come

Waiting until every eye that had looked upon her was closed Mara Shadowbain raised her arms to the sky closed her sapphire pools and soon one by one each man of Astrails army disappeared...

Or so it would seem.....

He heard the shouts of the people of Astrail, angry defiant, full of hope. It did not bother the demon however as he knew that inside them all was fear, and he would have to capatalize on that fear. If everything went right, and he knew it would, Astrail would be his, and that whelp Kain Dragonhand would be gone from the world. The only thing between him and Oriana Shadowbain would be out of his way.

His vast army of minions outnumbered the Astralians five to one, and he knew that a normal man could not compete with the likes of his. Normal men were weak, their reliance on their friends and neighbors, their fears especially of death would be their undoing. His minions would throw themselves upon the enemy with no concern of whether or not they would see the morrow for they only sought to please their master.

Yes Kain Dragonhand, your end will be soon and your beloved mage will be mine. amd so will Astrail.

Azun had spoken with the vampire lord Darioun about the aid of the vampires, even without them Astrail stood no chance, but with them they would crumble easily. Yes things were going as planned.

He began marching his army towards the city knowing that the sun would fall as they approached and that their ranks would be bolstered by the vampires of the Bhaal Forest.

Undead men played instruments of war, marking their approach. Their trumpets and drums however did not ring out normal sounds however, they released tainted notes that told the city that the darkness was fast approaching.

A scout reported that a small contingent of Astralians were spotted near the forest, Azun had the scout return to a group of Loth men that had been awaiting their specialized task and tell them that it was time. The ten Loth men should be more than a match for whatever came out of that little escape hole the city had.

Yes things were indeed moving as planned.

Kain did not hear the words that were sent to him on the winds of magic as his mind had completely shut out Mara Shadowbain. He didn't want anything to do with the woman. He could hear feel her attmept to communicate but the words were ineligable.

Finally the sun had set and the enemy approached. Then an unholy sound began to ring through the air, the dark song was announcing the approach Azun. Then Mara made her way through the men and Kain took note how her mere presence seemed to bolster them, especially after her speech. He appreciated it, and nodded to her as she glanced up at him. At this distance though she could not see the dissappointment he could not hide out of his stare.

Finally when the sun disappeared entirely Kain knew it was time to show them. He drew his blade and it immediately shed a holy light that enveloped those around the hero. Then Kain began to dance, and he displayed such harmony and recognition with his blade that those that watched were mesmerized by the simple beauth of the song, and the way in which the bladesinger moved with his blade. It was as if the weapon was an extension of himself and the song that eminated from the swift moving metal began to cascade into a finale that left the audience stunned. All around the walls of Astrail a holy light shined perpetually on their own.

Exhausted from his dance Kain looked towards the enemy. The darkness will not prove to be your advantage on this night Azun.

I d'nay be knowin' if we can take much more...

The elf muttered the words more to herself rather than speaking them directly to the red head, even if she wanted to say anything to the assassin there just wasnt time. They had just finished bringing the last of the people through the tunnel when the small wave came through the trees. Loth men surrounded them there were ten in all and the elf didnt know if she should laugh or cry.Either they would be victorious or they would die on that very spot, the baby cry that pealed through the forest snatched her from that dark thought and set the entire scene in motion. The two men that were with them sprang into action but the elf stopped the older of the two.

No Gregory, you have to listen to me carefully there isnt time.... take them back into the tunnel seal the door and wait, when you hear me scream and yes I will scream the word melas you will know the way has been cleared... its the best we can do now go....

There was no waiting to see if she obeyed, the elf wanting and wishing with all that she was to have Gabriel beside her focused her fears and anger over him on the beasts that were trying but failing to best Kiara. Even with the situation as dire as it was the elf paused for a brief moment to look in wonder upon the assassin who was tearing through the demons as they came at her. Damn she IS good she thought. For the two that Raynalia had taken down and the three Orin had defeated Kiara had dispatched of four more leaving only one and it was seeing this that made the elf scream the word that brought those inside out from the tunnels. While Kiara dealt with the last of the Loth Men Raynalia and Gregory led the people to the stronghold hidden by ways of the arcane on the very edge of Astrails lands.

It was just a dream, it has to be, I cannot have seen my mother and Kain the way that I did, fighting? No not them. I could not have been so cruel and played with Kristian the way that I did, not Kristian, he is one of my dearest friends. Azun cannot be here not now....

All these thoughts and images raced through the mind of the mage still curled in her ball, still in Kains bed, still sleeping. His scent, the scent of the warrior she belonged to surrounded her and with that scent a sound... what was it... a melody? The mage wasnt sure and as was her nature it was her curiosity that made her wake from her slumber and as if it were the most natural thing in the world, she smoothed out the black robes that enveloped her before she began her trek to find the source of the haunting notes.
The inn was quiet too quiet but the world outside bellowed and she knew then it had been no dream. Azun was upon Astrail! That knowledge should have brought at least a little panic but Oriana was calm, calmer than she had ever been and that calm made her step outside the inn. A bright light kissed her eyes but did not blind her, she was able to hearthe war raging around her, able to see the soldiers of Azun trying to overtake the city.

This is such BULLSHIT! I am TRYING TO SLEEP OVER HERE WHAT THE HELL IS THE MATTER WITH YOU IGNORANT BASTARDS!

Orianas voice boomed over the noises of battle and a few heads snapped to look in her direction thinking the youngest Shadowbain had lost her mind. They watched almost fearful as she walked almost stalking through the streets muttering curse worse and throwing bolts of lighting and balls of fire over the walls. She tore down anything that wasnt human and got in her way acting more annoyed than anything. Now near the main gate of the city she stood arms folded across her chest, velvet robes billowing around her.

I'm a real bitch when I dont get enough sleep and I am about to become very VERY cranky!
Take me away
and take me farther
Surround me now
and hold me like holy water
