Birth OOC

This is an open ended RP I'm running, mostly for the sake of fleshing out this character that keeps bouncing around in my head. Anyone is welcome to participate, but there are a few general setting rules first.

The story is taking place within the empire of Libyana. Libyana has a few neat features about it, not least of which is its vast repertoire of mages and mage-y knowledge stuff. Libraries are abundant, with the University of Lib purported to be the largest in the world. Mages are a given in Libyana. The capital city is Lib, and it is a sprawling metropolis. At its center stands an ancient wonder, the Diamond Palace. The palace is literally carved from a giant diamond. It's origin is lost in time, and its untapped powers are still being explored... but it is the single largest magical focus in the known world. The emperor makes his home here, being kind of arrogant.

The continent... A.K.A. the Known World... is called Cerane. Soft c. Libyana is considered a threat by most other kingdoms, due to its expansionist policies, and magic is largely viewed as being Bad. Ancient magical wars have scarred the landscape enough to make virtual any setting and background possible, from deserts of sand and shards of glass to vast rainforests to a blasted stretch of hell where the line between this world and the next has been completely worn away, allowing the dead to walk into the world of the living. This continent is about the size of Asia, maybe a bit bigger. There are other continents, but as travel across the oceans is suicide at the best of times, little is known of them. The oceans of the world are pretty stormy - The sea Goddess, Sharriss, is somewhat insane and the sea tends to reflect this part of her. Deep sea = dangerous.

Magic: Anything that's high fantasy fits... which is to say, all magic... but there are nine formal schools of training in Libyana, and so the following wizardy types are pretty common.

Beastmasters are, as their name suggests, lords of the animal kingdom. Their power is over beasts, but also over natural environs, like forests and swamps. They draw their power from the very flows and eddies of nature that exist in anything natural.

Artificers or Enchanters are those who create weapons and items of mystic power, forging their very body into a channel for the eddies of magic within creation.

Necromancers draw their powers from - can you guess? - the Underworld, that shadowy place that parallels Creation. Their power comes with sacrifice (i.e. rotting body, skeletal limb...). Most necromancers are depressing people, due to their proximity with death.

Stormbrewers are those who control weather and its associated phenomena, manipulating the natural processes of regions on the large scale. These magicians have the power to either heal or destroy entire countrysides, and generally have a firm grasp of lightning.

Summoners are those who gain their power through ritual summoning and binding of elementals, demigods, fae, demons, and the like. It's a dangerous art, where tradition isn't just there for show - it means the difference between control and death.

Elementalists are those who manipulate the natural elements of the world - earth, air, fire, and water - to do their bidding. Most elementalists lean towards one element more than the others.

Illusionists, rather than manipulating the world itself, instead manipulate how the world is viewed. Their power is drawn from the mass conscience of all the sentient creatures in the world, and as such only effect sentient creatures. Illusionists also have the ability to affect people's minds, memories, and emotions.

Shapeshifters have mastery over their own bodies, and occassionally over ordinary objects as well. Their abilities are... self explanatory.

Finally, Healers are those who have dedicated themselves to channeling the power of renewal, a constant force in the world. Through it they can heal anything from broken bones and spirits to shattered landscapes and crumbling temples. Anything that can be damaged can be healed by a skilled Healer... but a skilled Healer is a rare thing. Just a note, the same source of power that fuels Healing can also be used for Destruction.

Anyways, that's all the notes on my little continent. If you want to introduce a character, feel free, but post a detailed description here first. This is primarily a character development for me, so the story can go any which way.

Oh, and for those wondering, my character has no description for a reason... he's a magical creation, a shapeshifter forged from the elements, that devours magic and can assume the form of anything it has 'consumed'. It has developed the beginnings of sentient thought recently, and the plot is going to revolve around it's development from an emotionless assassin into an actual personality.

Anyways, feel free to join, hope to see some people in this thread! Adios for now!
