The Potter. (please feel free to comment.)

This poem was inspired by my good friend, J.W. who, among many other things, is... a potter. Watching him work on the wheel is very inspiring. I liken it to listening to a symphony playing a masterpiece, or eating something that completely tantalizes your taste buds.

The poem is kind of a conceit (where something is poetically described in metaphor) and it is also a shape poem. There are the shapes of three vases in the text, one vase in each stanza.

MEL AKA Dash Render

Face of granite.
Piercing
Embers.
Adamant jaw.
Demanding gaze.
Grim determination.
Sweat, in pearls
Standing.

Atlas In stone relief.
Body rigid,
Straining.
Muscles
Bulging.
Blood vessels,
Thick ropes full of life,
Webbing across
Mighty arms.

A matched pair,
Gymnasts
Dance lithely.
Flitting over clay.
Pulling, Shaping,
Moving the earth,
Those Mighty
Hands.
