*** Introduction ***

Times have changed over the years and few can still recall when peace and harmony once reigned over the land. The price of goods have skyrocketed due to the mysterious plundering of crops forcing many into less than noble means for survival. Continuous monster attacks have swelled the ranks of those who call themselves " Mystic Warriors." But as the attacks become ever more frequent and powerful, an elite few begin to wonder what is behind this outbreak... and when and how it will all end?

*** Just After Midnight In Strife's Room ***

It was the same dream that I've had so many nights prior. I am looking at my refection in the mirror and although the image I see appears to be my own, I undergo a constant feeling of terror. I gaze into a reflection that does not reflect my "self." Although it shows my image, it is not me. The person I see before me is filled with utter hatred and anger towards all... but there is more. Its eyes. Green slowly swells to crimson and the garments upon its person now midnight in color. Gazing into those blood red pools, I see the strife, chaos, and the destruction that will be brought upon our world.

I awoke in a cold sweat gasping for air. Fear the only emotion my body was capable of conveying. Hours would go by before I would recover from the discomfort that I felt, but even after it had passed there was constantly something in the back of my mind that would never let me fully forget the dreadfulness of those ominous eyes...

*** In the Courtyard ***

It was merely a few hours after sunrise but already the metallic sounds of swordplay echoed throughout the training grounds set in the heart of the Academy. It was never surprising to find young students out this early practicing, however, it was never a welcomed sound for those still trying to get what little sleep they could before the hard day ahead.

I was indeed an exception to this. No matter how little sleep I had, I was always the first out for training.

I consider myself to be a very athletic and agile person. I have developed a fighting style all my own and combined with my unique abilities, it is no wonder I am head of the Mystic Warriors. I tend to carry myself with the utmost grace and beauteous demeanor. People have commented that I possess a very muscular physic that shows off my definition even through my clothing at times and "seems to ripple elegantly like that of a panther" a girl once told me during a training sessions I was having with a student of mine. I would have to say my colors of choice are blue and yellow because they "accentuated my hair and bring definition to my jade eyes." This was yet another complement the youthful girl gave me, however, it was on a different day.

My hair is blond in color and falls a few inches past my shoulders. I normally like to kept it pulled back but today I let it fall lightly about my face simply due to the fact that I neither felt like, nor had the time to do much else with it. People regard me as having handsome features and my eyes have a tendency to reflect sunlight giving them an almost jewel like appearance.

The sweat along my body caused the chill of the morning air to cut hard against my bare chest like jagged shards of ice, however, I paid little attention to this. I needed to do something, anything to get my mind off this morning's earlier occurrences.

Jugging by the moister about the grounds and the humidity that hung in the air, it had rained sometime during the night. It must have been the sound of the storm that awoke me earlier this morning, I don't really recall. However, I am sure my slumber would not have gotten much better had I slept any longer.

I have been greatly troubled by the mass amounts of monster attacks that have been reported. The destruction of property, missing persons, deaths, and the like have all been brought to my attention. And to make matters worse, a reoccurring dream has concerned me as well. I have yet to make heads or tails of it, all I know is that neither situation looks promising.

Salivery fangs lunged at his face, but his eyes were closed before he could see the inpact. But he didn't need to see it as pain lanced over his face from deep gashs as razor sharp teeth jaggedly pierced his young flesh and the warmth of his own blood and the breath of breast before him made him realise he was but moments away from his death. And then the teeth were gone, but where they were pain continued to keep death away from the now tired youth. Cold winters breath flew over open wounds and turned the boys flowing blood to ice. And as darkness began to sweep over him there was a flash of blue light and what seemed like lightening lanced through his face once more. From far away he heard a high pitched screaming as well as soft comforting words. Physical pain had ceased from his face but the memory of it lingered within his mind. He finally became aware that the screaming from coming from his own lungs and not that of one of the others he was in the forest with. He opened his eyes and saw all around him large monsters with black and white fur, some appearing as half-human half-wolf. But soon they all began to shift into human, elven, dwarven and a variety of other basic races. A young man moved up before him and looked closely at his face. He smiled which showed the once wolven fangs still shifting back to their human likeness. He spoke in a deep resonating tone.

"You will be alright with a little rest. I healed your face, but I am afraid you are now one of us. You are a werewolf. Welcome Silver."

He blinked open his eyes and drew a pale hand up from under the sheets to rack through his long silver hair. It had been the same dream as always again. The dream of his transformation into a werewolf and he knew that the next night would be a similar dream, but it would be of his transformation into a vampire. A deadly combination, and a combination that had nearly seen him killed in Portsmouth by the Mystic Warriors. But there was one Warrior who saw in his heart what had always been there... goodness, a willingness to always do good in the world. And Strife had set him free for it.

Now he was the Master of Martial Arts.

Silver eyes flashed as lids blinked to clear his tired vision. The first wisps of day light pulsed through the window. He cursed to himself. He would be late again for his class. And he had been drilling them for their discipline and commitment. He pushed the covers of his bed aside quickly and with speed that dwarfed most, if not all, of those within Portsmouth he dressed and was out the door and made his way for the training grounds.

He was there just as the last of the class members arrived and he slowed himself to a walk. He glanced up at the horizon as if for the first time and then smiled at his students.

"Very well done, you are all here on time. I hope you are all bright and cheery... No? Well, it matters not, you will all be bright and cheery after you jog. Twice around the campous, and no cheating. I have eyes everywhere..."

He nodded to them and with a groan the all began their jog. Harthar moved quickly and had a shortcut to get infront of them, although out of their sight. He had become adept at keeping out of the sight of people, especially with his vampiric speed and also the speed being a werewolf had enhanced in his body. He could also move silently and his strength was what sages and poets wrote about. But he would let no sage or poet write about him. His life was to full of him being beaten by the forces of evil that he wanted none to know of his life, save for the one person he trusted above all others, Strife.

He focused once more on his class and began to follow them from infront, making sure on their pass by the training field that he was there to smile at them and nod in their direction for encouragement.

Dengar was sleeping in his room, when 'he' came to him, in his dreams once again....

A vague silhouette of a man can be seen, standing with his back towards Dengar. One might notice the gold armor he is waring.

"You again? What is it that you want this time? Come to direct me towards your 'path' again? Well, at the moment, I'm fine right here at the academy. I'm bettering my skills each day, and I get more and more control over my powers. I'm not giving this up yet!"

"Some paths require you to stay at a set location. This is one of those locations. No, I have come to you with a warning. It seems there is a spirit who is out for you. It doesn't have any power yet, but it likes to linger around groups of beings who are evil to the core, feeding on the cruelty of their deeds, making him stronger. I can sense it, he's near. When it gets powerful enough, it will come for you to persuade you. Make sure you are ready."

Dengar woke up just as suddenly as always. He noticed he overslept.

"Not again! Why does he always do this to me? I'm late for training. Master Leonhart won't like that."

Dengar quickly grabbed his things and went to the training grounds. Still with his dream fresh in his mind.

She's late again I thought to myself as I began to put on my shirt and prepare myself for my morning class. Not like I'm surprised really, she is rarely on time anywhere.

Tardiness had always been a pet peeve of mine especially amongst my students, but to have to deal with it from another instructor was a bit of an annoyance at times.

I began to make my way out of the courtyard and down the main hall. I figured by the time I got back to the training grounds, everyone would be ready to go on with today's lessons.

It was the same path I took every morning but something felt different. I looked at the many painting that hung on the wall, the portraits of the Academy's founders. Each hanging there with such emotionless expressions. Their eyes so... distant. For the first time ever I got an eerie feeing as I walked down this so familiar hall and back towards the training grounds..

I began to think of the Academy's past. Heh, a rather vague one at that I might add. Writings speak of a battle that was fought long ago on this very spot. If I remember correctly, it all started with the use of some accent magick of sorts. I do not recall, but most don't. The facts of it all have been lost over time that most of the thing said now are just in order to inspire youths to come to the school. The one fact that remains constant in every tail is that the Academy was built upon the spot where a fierce battle took place, outside of that, the stories seem to change from day to day I might have pondered more on this but it was time to start.

Morning, today we will be... my voice trailed off as I watched on of the youths make a rather hasty entrance into the courtyard making his way to the training platform.

*sigh*...Dengar... I thought to myself.

As I was saying. Today we will be working on our technique. I would like for everyone to partner up and start your warm-up for this morning. I shall come around to each pair and we will review so get into groups...

Except you Dengar, you are paired up with me today...

When the run was finished Harthar was sitting down having a drink of cool water and watched the first of the class get back from the little walk. He smiled and instead of letting them rest he motioned to the paddec gloves and began pairing them off and told them to immediately begin dueling.

"Alright, I would like you to duel slowly at first in your pairs. I will be walking around and judging your forms. If you are not doing them correctly then I will send you on another lap of the Academy and then get you to keep practicing the same form until nightfall."

All the students seemed to be about to groan until Harthar made a low noise in his throat and they didn't think of groaning again. they began their dueling. Circling their partners and punching, kicking, blocking and dodging the blows. First being offencive and then defencive.

Harthar moved from one pair and then to the next, watching them for a time before moving on. By the time he had gone through everyone, two of the guys had already been sent on a run and the class consisted mostly of females.

"Very well done, most of you, you are all worthy of the five minutes rest I will give you before we will begin the strength training. My advice is to stretch whilst resting. You will benefit from it."

They all began to stretch their aching arms and legs for the five minutes before Harthar led them over to a few pole sticking out of the ground which had poles attached from one to the other. Harthar leapt up and grabbed the pole with one hand then reversed his grip and began to do chin ups. His body straight and his balance perfect. He did them slowly, lowering himself down until his arms were nearly straight before pulling himself up again. He did this many times before he said in a calm tone that showed he was not getting tired at all.

"Everyone jump up and do as I am doing. And keep doing it until I say to stop."

He kept to it as he watched the others get up and begin the chin ups.

Dengar smiled.

"well that's a relief. Being that little late isn't that bad compared to this. Getting paired up with Master Leonhart should be a cool experience. From what I've heard, he's supposed to be quite the swordmaster. I'd better get ready."

Dengar got over to Strife, and grabbed is weapon, and held it in front of him. He closes his eyes for a few seconds, concentrating on what is to come. If he's as good as they say, he's gonna need his ability to act on things before they happen. After a few seconds, he moved into the ready position.

"Whenever you're ready, Master Leonhart."

The road in front of Tristram was long and hard. Deep, sudden holes threatened to trip him with every step he took, yet he continued unabated. He had brought along with him a small platoon of skeletons for any minor roadbumps that might crop up. He had heard rumors of creatures ransacking villages and randomly attacking travelers, and wanted to be prepared. He walked along the path with an unearthly speed, followed by his band of summoned warriors, sheilding his eyes from the sun. Spending so much time in crypts and working through the night had given him an aversion to light of any strength. His ears pricked slightly, and dodged to the left of the path. A huge beast swooped down, nailing one of the skeletons, shattering it. He made a mental note to find someone to replace the thing. Trist stood up to look the Wyvern in the eyes. It was several yards taller than he was, with huge hulking wings and crusty scales. "You are irritaing me," Trist said in a low, echoy voice. He held out his left hand, and a subtle aura shimmered around it. "Come on. That's it, just a little farther." The thing smiled, and plopped down like a large feline. It rested it's scaly head on the ground, and grinned as Tristram patted it's nose. The necromancer put his other hand on the fake dragon's head, and closed his eyes. His hands blazed up with purple fire, and the magick spread over the wyvern's form, causing it to squeal, but remain stiff in position. Tristram clenched his teeth against the power of the spell. In a few moments, it stopped squealing. It slumped on the ground, eyes rolled back into it's head. Tristram let all the purple energy flow back into his hands, and looked them over. There was a little scarring from the massive amount of life energy the thing had, but it didn't hurt. "That is your justice. Rest in peices, False Dragon." He walked around the corpse, and his companions followed suit. Nothing would get in the way of his journey. He mused to himself, Young Master Leonhart, you have proven yourself worthy on may occasions. Yet, I cannot shake the feeling that your destiny will only lead you to your end, and the temporary lengthening of the time before the End of Everything. As much as it infuriates me, I must protect you.

"Whenever you're ready, Master Leonhart."

I nodded my head slightly in acknowledgment. Very well... I finally announced with a slight bow before I drew my sword from its holster and held it blade down into the earth. I stood there motionless , the only sound being that of the students who were in the midst of their training around the platform. The wind tugged at my garments lightly as I stood there waiting to see if he would be so bold as to initiate the attack. I simply grinned and with great speed and precision initiated my attack.

The session was fierce: I started by unleashed a ferocious series of attacks that Dengar awkwardly attempted to block and would sometimes stumbled backwards do to the strength I put forth in my swings.

Hmm, not bad, I said as I lowered my sword to remove my cape. however, I know you have more in you than that. I smiled slightly to myself before adding Or perhaps you didn't learn all that you could have do to your excessive tardiness to my classes?

I began my attacks again, this time I did notice a bit of a change in Dengar. He became a little quicker in responding to my attacks and even got in a few accurate ones himself. Ah, so you did learn a few things after all I said between swings. You were beginning to worry me little Dengar, Here I was starting to think that I was a bad instructor, and all the while it was do to the fact that you never pay attention.

That did it. I finally got the results I wanted from Dengar. He started to react quicker to my assaults almost to the point that it appeared as though he was predicting my moves. I noticed that we seemed to be drawing a crowd. The students that I specifically instructed had wondered about the platform to watch. Hmm, I would have to deal with them later.

Dengar charged me with his own set of attacks which I broke free from after his eighth or so swing. After, I stuck my sword into the earth and began into a series of backwards flip-flops putting my at the opposite end of the platform from Dengar.

Not bad Dengar... I looked up towards the sky and closed my eyes and began to channel my thoughts. I felt the wind blow slightly about my body at first and then build up with greater intensity as gray clouds gathered in the heavens. They swirled about overhead flashing brilliantly with blue lightening and accompanied with the booming sounds of thunder.

Blitz Drache!!

The clouds above darkened and with one finally flash sent forth three electrical orbs spiraling from the heavens to the center of the platform. I halted them before impact allowing Dengar as well as those around to witness this sight.

This is the reason we train so hard, for you never know what strengths or powers your opponent may have. I had to almost yell to get my voice to carry over the crackling sound of the electricity. I waved my hand slightly and dispersed the clouds above and watch as the orbs vanished.

Dengar, you have great potential, but you let your overconfidence and emotions limit you. You lack discipline and do to this I feel that you should immediately enroll in Master Harthar's martial arts class. I have great respect for him and feel that his course will bestow upon you the qualities you will need to become more successful in my classes.

"Great! Martial Arts lessons from Mr. Freakshow. Oh what fun that would be. I came from the other side of the country to this place just to see the great master Harthar at work."

There was not emotion in Dengar's face, but his aura did change. Even those in the immediate vicinity who aren't adept at it, could feel it. Some of the other studens even did a step back or two.

"Why the hell me. What does this guy think of me? I'm better than most of the other trainees. He knows that? So why does he say I'm incompetent?"

"Was that it for today? Or are we continuing?"

Tristram glanced up a moment at the distant sound of thunder. Those clouds over the bunker...I've seen them before. He stopped, watching the blue lightning streak across the underbelly of the growing inky thunderhead. Three balls of electricity came down from the clouds, and through the top of the open-air building. Hmmm. No monsters have entered the compound as I have been watching. What could he be attacking with such a power as this? He allowed a small smile as he continued on. He was always the type for drama. (ooc:I hope you don't mind, but I'm going to take a little creative license a second.) He approached the portcullis, which was currently flanked by two of Leonhart's guards. One announced, "Who are you?"
"I have come in search of young Master Leonhart. Let me through."
"I can't let you in. He is training the cadets as we speak, and would not like the intrusion."
Trist focused his face into that which would scare a gargoyle. "He will understand. Let me through, meager warrior." He channeled his mind into the guard's head. Tristram's target was visibly shaken.
"Yes! Right away, Master Coffin! Open the gates!" The portcullis raised enough for him and his skeletons to make their way under, then was lowered back into place. The guard had not lied. Many young fighters were in the courtyard, and Strife was talking down to one of them. Tristram leaned against one of the walls in the shadows, and commanded his skeletons to stand perfectly still. He waited calmly, watching the young Leonhart and his students, letting the little snatch of darkness replenish his power.

"Was that it for today? Or are we continuing?"

No, that will be all for today. I responded coolly. "Your choice of words and attitude have served as to prove my point beyond a shadow of a doubt." I continued as I tied my cape around my neck. I do not think that any further discussion is required, so now I'm no longer asking you but giving you a direct order...

Report to Master Harther immediately!

I wanted nothing more than to send a bolt from the heavens to strike him down at that moment, but how could I when he reminded me so much of the way I use to be when I was younger. Thankfully I grew up, I can only hope the same rules would apply to Dengar.

I began to make my way down from the platform when something out of the corner of my eyes caught my attention. A man? I for sure knew he was not one of the instructors here nor was he a student by any means.

Excuse me... I started to call out, but my words were abruptly halted by the Arch Mage's Advisor.

Master Leonhart? Master Leonhart! His Highness has sent a message to you, it is of great importance.

Can this not wait... I responded as I attempted to look past him towards the mysterious man against the wall.

I am sorry Master Leonhart, but his Highness wants you to know this right away, Kandary was attacked!

What! I responded with great concern. Why would anyone attack the city of Kandary? The city was allied with Portsmouth and therefore was under the protection of the Mystic Warriors. No one was incompetent enough to go up against the entire Mystic Force.

Where there many loses?

No Master Leonhart, their focus seemed to be the Cascade Temple.

Th-The Cascade Temple? That makes no sense! What could they possibly want with that place? It's a temple of prayer, hardly anything worth taking and-

I know Master Leonhart, but this event has gotten the entire city in an uproar not to mention his Highness as well. That is why he sent me to find you. He wants you, Lady Khavi, and Master Harther to investigate.

What! For an investigation? With that lineup there is enough power to take out a small demonic army. Surly a few of the Mystic Guards could handle-

I'm sorry, but his Highness has decided that you three shall be the ones to look into this. He has already sent messages out to the others to meet you in the Great Hall. You depart at sunrise... that is the will of his Highness!

I realized at that point that discussion was not an option. If the Arch Mage had already made up his mind there wasn't anything that could be done about it. But why such a team? If this was just a minor investigation, why would he send the three of us to investigate this occurrence? What had him in such a state? And why was the city of Kandary in such an uproar over such a minor incident? Was the Cascade Temple such a worshiped place?

...Very well... I finally responded.

I shall inform his Highness of your willingness to go. Thank you Master Leonhart.

I watched as the Advisor began to walk away and it was then that I noticed the man standing against the wall again.

Wait! I called out to Advisor Delaris. Delaris, do you know that man over there? I'm sure that I have never seen him around here before and the Guards would not have let him in without good cause.

No, I can't say that I have.

...Thank you I responded as I bowed slightly and watched Delaris walk away. I turned to face the mysterious new comer and began to walk towards him. Upon reaching him a bowed my head slightly before introducing myself. I could not quit place it but I was sure I knew him from somewhere.

My name is Strife Leonhart, leader of the Mystic Warriors of Portsmouth. What business has brought you to the Academy? Its rare that visitors are allowed in without proper documentation...

He watched Strife as he walked away, and a messenger started talking with him. It sounded important, so he tried to focus his hearing on them. He couldn't hear it all, but it had something to do with an attack on Kandary.

"An attack? On Kandary? Could this be... What that guy was talking about? That spirit? I should check it out. Well, no time for that, I need to report to Mr. Freakshow."

With that, he left the platform and went to report to Harthar.

Harthar was moving from one pair of duelers to the next. Watching their technique and commenting when the need arose, sometimes he demonstrated when the students did not get the full picture of his words. After the demonstration they got the hint pretty fast.

When Student Arcus arrived Harthar was kneeling down in front of a girl around the age of nine or ten and she was crying.

"Where is he, Harthar?"

"There is no need to cry, little one. I am sure Master Strife needed to speak with him a little before he sent him over."

She sniffled and looked over Harthar's shoulder and saw Dengar. She then looked down at Harthar's face and wiped the tears from her eyes as she smiled slightly and said.

"He is here!"

Harthar swiveled lightly and slowly upon his feet to glance back at Dengar and a stern look appeared upon his youthful and yet pale features. He looked back to the girl and stood up, taking her hand. He addressed Dengar without looking at him.

"You are late. I do not wish to hear excuses, but I will let you off this time for the fact that Master Strife may have had a chat with you. This is Leaf. She is your partner. She is in training to be a Mistress of Unarmed combat. You will listen to her and do what she says. She is going to be in charge of the class whilst I am away on urgent business."

Harthar turned and his voice rose, deep and resonant as he addressed the whole class.

"I know that you all heard that class, but for those that will act as if they did not hear it, I will be away on urgent business for a time. Leaf is in charge in my stead, but if I am informed that you have misbehaved or done anything inappropriate there will be serious consequences.

He turned back to Leaf and smiled to her as he said.

"Go easy on the class... They are not as skilled as you are. Take care and teach them well."

He messed up her hair with a hand before turning to glance at Dengar and then, after inclining his head to the student, moved off and toward Master Strifes class to get more information about the situation. When he arrived he observed Strife talking to a mysterious fellow he had never seen before. Harthar desided it would be best to stay back.

She's probably capable if he appoints her. He may be a freak, but he is not stupid. Anyhow, I have no time for this. I have to know what's going on and what this spirit is.

Then he witnessed Harthar leaving. Probably to meet up with Strife.

"Actually, I just came here to say I was feeling unwell and that I'm going to my quarters."

"He then went back to his room, not awaiting any answer, with one thing the advisor said in his mind.

"I'm sorry, but his Highness has decided that you three shall be the ones to look into this. He has already sent messages out to the others to meet you in the Great Hall. You depart at sunrise... that is the will of his Highness!"

"Then I'd better leave today. I have some investigations of my own to do. They probably wouldn't miss me anyway. Or they'll be glad to know of my absence. I mean, they don't like me anyhow."

Dengar quickly entered his room, and packed some supplies, and his purse. He then opened his window, whiched looked out at the outside of the academy, and carefully jumped out, using his powers to slow his fall, so he can land alright. Then he started his travel to Kandary.

Tristram stepped out of the shadows towards Strife. "I didn't really expect you to remember me, young Master Leonhart. It has been many years sinse I have seen you last. I am Tristram Coffin." Seeing the blank look of forgetfulness, he continued, "I've known your family since it became one of the great ones, and you along with it. You just heard the messenger, that Kandary is under seige. Well, Kandary is a paridise compared to other cities I've visited. Had such dire times not befallen our land, I would have been here for social reasons. Just as a formality, to catch up on the goings-on of the world outside my castle." He could tell Strife wanted for him to get to the goddamn point already. "Listen, with all respect to you and your friends, these things are dangerous. Even if I didn't owe certain favors to your father, I would have come to join your mission anyway." Tristram stood up straight, crossing his arms, then knitted his brow. He got a break in his passive telepathic scans; that boy Strife had been yelling at was on the move. "If nothing else, I could track down your rogue student, as menial and demeaning as it might be."

I shook my head slightly. You speak of...these "things" which you perceive as dangerous to us. I am sorry but I do not understand, we are merely going to investigate the Cascade Temple. I sighed with frustration.

I just do not see why everyone seems to be turning this situation into such an ordeal. First Kandary, then the Arch Mage, and now you! Yes, so the temple was plundered, but can't anyone see that the City itself is safe? Would it not have been worse if the city was destroyed? Why doesn't anyone see this! Why must I be sent out on such a mundane task!

I heard a small rumble of thunder from above, Obviously my emotions were getting a little too strong. ... I apologies, I just do not see why everyone seems to be getting so alarmed by this situation...

I turned to notice Harther waiting a few yards away. I singled for him to come over before turning to talk once again to the man Tristram.

Listen, I don't feel that this situation requires as much attention as it has accumulated, however, I shall not turn down your offer to assist... I paused as I thought back to the dreams I've been having. What if this attack was somehow connected to the odd occurrences that have been reported.

If your willingness to help is only due to the fact that you owe my father then I release you from any debt you feel you may owe my family. I am not sure if you are a wear but my mother and father.... I paused out of respect. ...passed away....

This was indeed not a subject I wished to discuss. Every time I even thought of the death of my parents a strange sensation would come over me.... it was not natural and I have yet to explain it. I just now noticed that Harther was standing next to me. I had no idea how long he had been there nor the amount if information he had heard.

Master Harther this is Tristram Coffin, he may be joining us on our visit to Kindary.

I then took the time to enlighten Harther on the events that had occurred in Kandary. About the attack, the Cascade Temple, and the wishes of his Highness the Arch Mage. Harther seemed to react in almost the same fashion as I. I don't think he quite felt the situation required that much attention either.

Lady Kahvi has been informed and will meet up with us later.

Oh, and it appears that Dengar has left the comforts of the Mystic Academy. No doubt he overheard my conversation with Delaris and is on his way to Kandary to see maters for himself. I swear I just do not understand that youth sometimes. I pray that he will one day grow out of this faze he is going through... or I'm afraid....
I smiled to myself. ...or I'm afraid I might just have to hurt him myself.

I can't imagine what would be going through his mind right now that would make him leave like that. Harther? I think we really need to exchange words with this one.... I really do.
I laughed and was soon accompanied by Harther.

Harthar laughed along side Strife, his hero, his mentor, and as the laughter faded he spoke still with mirth in his deep tone.

"The youth think to much of themselves these days, which is a trait that is frowned upon here, well at least I frown upon it. Which is why I bring people’s ego's down when they get to cocky. A pity Dengar did not stay to be trained by Leaf, he would have learnt something..."

He saw the slight frown upon Strife's face when Harthar mentioned Leaf and so he quickly explained.

"I have been training a young girl by the name of Leaf, she is aspiring to the rank of Mistress of Unarmed Combat. I had appointed her in charge of the class in my absence. She is only nine but she is very very good and is a very capable person when it comes to shattering egos."

Harthar chuckled lightly to himself as he imagined Dengar's face when he would have been beated by Leaf on a few hundred occasions and each time a new criticism would arise. He stifled his laughter and remembering Tristram, he looked over and nodded to the man.

"Pleasure to meet you Mr. Tristram. Our journey to Kandery will be rather boring I would assume. You spoke of 'things'. Would you mind elaborating whilst we make our way to investigate the Temple?"

"Yes. 'Things' as I so eloquently put it. You see, Delaris didn't so much as lie, as not tell the whole truth. What attacked the Temple? I'll try to explain." He recalled the unhallowing of Cascade Temple from his memory. "I'm sure you have run into demons before. And dragons. And any number of the thousands of monsters catalouged in my mind. These, quite frankly, are worse. Than any of the above. Combined. You'd have to see them for yourself in battle to understand what I'm sure is brewing in the back of your minds, the images of hideous beings and utter damnation. I'm just telling you, that this isn't just a routine investigation. This is going to be Hell. If you have any doubts as to your abilities, then stay here." He snapped his fingers, summoning his skeletons back into animation. They creeked up until they were once again erect. "Do not take this responsibility lightly. Either of you. If we are to make any progress, we must leave now in haste."

I nodded in agreement with Tristram and watched as he began to reanimated his party of skeletons. I agree that we should make hast, however, preparations will not be complete until tomorrow. Due to our positions Harther and I hold at this Academy and do to my rank, there are certain guidelines we have to fallow.

I paused momentarily as I thought about all that I would have to do before I left the Academy walls. From the mental list I compiled it looked like I would be occupied for the rest of the day.

We shall leave first thing in the morning, in the mean time Tristram, feel free to take in the comforts of our home. I shall have a room prepared for your immediate use. I looked over Tristram and his group of "friends" I do fear that these may cause problems during our travels, many do not take kindly to the powers of Necromancy, especially here at the Academy. You will be accompanied by three of the of the Mystic Force's most skilled members, I don't think that the added protection nor attention that it may draw to our group will be needed for the time being.

As for you Harther
I said turning to face him Make any preparations needed to be ready to leave first thing in the morning. It is about a three day journey on horseback so only take what supplies you may need for that amount of time. We will surly restock before departing Kandary.

I bowed to Harther and Tristram before excusing myself for what would be the remainder of the day. I was kept occupied by the numerous reports that had been sent to me over the past few months. I tried to pinpoint any connections or patterns that there might have been but there was none. Nor did it lead me towards any clues as to who might want to attack Kandary.

I looked at a map showing the lands around Portsmouth. There it was, Kandary, located just west of us along the cost of the Tusken Sea. It was a beautiful city and the center of most over sea trade.

To the north was our ally city Nadia located in the heart of the Higharken Mountains. It was famous for it mineral deposits but not a very lively place, I tend to avoid visiting this town if I can.

South was the artistic city of Atuan. Countless artist and bards have come from this fair city. Its artisans actually are the ones responsible for all the majestic sculptures and artwork found here at the Academy as well as many other locations.

Finally our last ally was Gont to the East. It was located at the foot of a dormant volcano. Hardly a place where one would have thought for a city to be but it was there. Not much came from Gont other then a few rouges, masters rouges, but rouges nonetheless.

There were a few minor towns and villages spread out amongst the four major cities not counting Portsmouth, that would make it five total.

I found myself yawning by this point. Where did the time go? I thought to myself as I looked out the window of my quarters upon a diamond of a moon. I felt it best to get to sleep as soon as possible so I would be well rested for the long journey ahead... but a good nights sleep for me was not yet an option.

I had that dream again. It was the same dream that I?ve had so many nights prior. I am looking at my reflection in the mirror and although the image I see appears to be my own, I undergo a constant feeling of terror. I gaze into a reflection that does not reflect my ?self?. Although it shows my image, it is not me. The person I see before me is filled with utter hatred and anger towards all. Its green eyes slowly swells to crimson and the garments upon its person now midnight in color. But there was more detail to the dream tonight. Behind my reflection I saw flames.... a city? Yes! A city in flames, I saw strange shadows scurrying about behind him and then... blood... slowly wash over the mirror blocking out the reflection and the chaos behind it....

A figure stood in in the darkness on the outskirts of Portsmouth. He looked past the tall towers over the city directly to the heart, the Mystic Academy. The moon shown behind it brightly depicting an almost tranquil setting.

He watched as a crimson orb of light hovered above the Academy walls and watched with interest as it danced about momentarily before shooting skyward and out of view.

... It starts... the figure whispered softly before vanishing into the shadow leaving no trace of his presence ever being there.

Harthar looked to the animations and without his expression changing he growled deep in his throat. He hated the undead for a very good reason, one few knew about. Everyone knew Harthar was a werewolf, but very few knew he was also a Vampire. Infact, only Strife and Khavi knew he was a Vampire and perhaps the Arch Mage.

He pulled his eyes from the creatures as the earge to spring forward and destroy them rose within him. His eyes moving to Strife's face and he listened to his superior. Nodding when appropriate.

"Everything will be prepared Strife. I'll take care of the supplies for you also and Mistress Khavi as well. I do not require much in the way of supplies, all I will need is my special suit and armour. The set you had personally helped in the making of."

He was talking about the black full body suit, which excluded the head, that was skin tight at all times. Its magical ability enabled it to expand and contract when what was wearing it changed in form. Perfect for the werewolf when he changed into his half-man half-wolf form and his muscles grew to double their normal size. The armour was the same in this, except it was light armour, merely elven steel ring mail which expanded the same way the suit did.

"I'll see to the arrangements now."

He turned upon his heel and moved back toward his class. When he arrived he noted Leaf taking the class through the duels, she had found another partner and Harthar could not help but scowl when he remembered Dengar had gone. Yes... there will be some serious words exchanged when we meet up with that boy. He thought to himself and moved out of the shadows and toward the class.

"How goes everything Leaf?"

"Everything is going well, Deng-"

Harthar cut her off smoothly. "Yes, Dengar will be spoken to in good time. Worry not Leaf, you will do well. Continue with the class, I have some preparations to attend to."

Leaf nodded and moved back to the class and continued teaching them. Harthar moved off toward his office, which was really his bed room and office in one. Once he arrived he moved inside and shut the door behind him. Moving to the closet to remove a medium sized chest and to bring it to the bed, which he sat upon. He opened the chest and carefully removed the black suit and shining silver elven steel ring mail. Harthar could feel the magic within it pulsing. He stared at it for a few moments before replacing it in the chest and returning the chest to the closet. He closed the closet and stood, moving from the room and to the various buildings in the Academy that he needed to go to to make arrangement.

He returned to his room late into the day and sat down on his bed. He removed his cloths and lay under the sheets. He would need rest for tomorrow, it was amazing how he had learnt to sleep at nights and stay awake in the day, it was against both the werewolf and Vampiric ways. But then again, he would not let those ways take over from his human ways. They had been forced upon him and now he was going to use them against Undead and were-creatures that were evil.

He slept that night, but his dreams were restless... he dreamt of how he had become a Vampire... Once more he woke in a sweet in the morning and found new cause to hate and hunt Vampires...

"Yes, yes, take whatever time you need, Strife." He resisted the urge to add, Your fear is your weakness, boy. If you succumb to it, do not come to me for help. Instead, he said, "I will wait here in the courtyard until the mourning comes." He watched the two warriors walk away to their respective daily chores. Tristram walked to the center of the courtyard, and kneeled, meditating on what was to come teh next day. The light of the sun passed through the sky, and the moon rose in it's place. Now, he thought, is the time to see what we're up against. Trist stood up, balling his hands into tight fists, letting only his right index finger hang down. He walked around in a slow circle, chanting lowly in an arcane language. "Cah'at Doraeial Challa Mo'dar'kahat. Sho'kallam Fower Ral'ho'coma. Wahl'dahat Dreahmat Armaeil." He now had compleated his walking circle. A line of light blue faerie fire sprang from the ground along the path he had followed. He sat down in a lotus position inside the circle. He spread his arms wide over the circle in front of him, and resumed chanting. "For'ar'alarum Kades'caht. Cael'chagullum. Xe'ras Meagas Kahllas'kaht. Mor'faer Collum Kah'malleshat!" The faerie fire shifted in color to a vibrant orange, and new lines of the magick light traced on the ground to create a pentacle star within the boundries of the circle. He flipped his hands over, and raised them towards the sky. A vicious, icy wind began to cyclone around the circle. He chanted louder, to be heard over the blowing zephyr. "Zar'vallamam! Cades'maelsarem! Yaelmas! Sha'dur'kwameshall Foyaordoma AEmal'vael'kas!" The wind blew up into a massive column of circulating air, but left the ground outside it's radius untouched. Suddenly, the wind died down, and the energy lines blazed up into red walls three feet high. After a moment, the lines lowered into their regular height of a few inches, and then, a man materialized inside the center of the star. Even in the dim light, Tristram could see the red, scaled skin of the guest's face, his glowing red eyes, and the small points protruding from his forehead below his black hairline. Trist stood up, and spoke in the same language he spoke in chants. "Gaer'las. How good of you to come."
"Not a problem, Trist. What do you need?"
"I'm sure you know of the Cascade Temple assault."
"We had nothing to do with it, if that's what you're asking."
"I know your style, Gaer'las. That wasn't. I want to know whose it is."
"Well, that's a little difficult to find out..."
"I don't want to hear excuses. Do whatever you have to to nail down who did this. I want weaknesses, strengths, average boot size, EVERYTHING."
The devil chuckled. "Now, who do you think you are, making demands..."
Tristram glared. "You know who I am. And you know what I want. And you know better than to cross me. Now go and get the information I desire."
"Ok. All right. You'll have it before you reach Kandary." The devil bowed deeply. "Merry met, and merry part..."
"And may we merry meet again." They spoke together, "So mote it be." With that, the pentacle, the circle, and Gaer'las disappeared at once. Tristram kneeled back down in his previous position, and closed his eyes, focusing back on the day ahead.

Dengar caught a ride on a wagon, whose owner was on his way to Seth. Then they finally got there.

"That's as far as I go, young lad. You're on your own from here."

"That won't be a problem, this ride must have at least saved me half a day of travel. Well, I'll be on my way now."

"Until we meet again, and fare you well, may the powers watch over you."

"What a nice young fellow. And he is quite prepared for travel on the dangerous road ahead, judging by that sword on his back."

Dengar smiled, because he couldn't help but overhear the man's thoughts. At least there are some people who respect other people in this country. He quickly went to find something to drink, and then continued his journey.

I awoke a little before day break exhausted. Even though I had gone to be to get the minimal sleep requirements I knew my body naturally needed, I woke feeling as if I had not slept at all during the night. However, this was something I would have to deal with due to the fact that I would be setting out in a few hours.

I packed what supplies I would need and placed them in a burlap bag that I hastily through over my shoulder as I made way to the courtyard. There I found Harther, Tristram, and a few of the Mystic Guards helping with the preparations of the horses but... Where is Khavi? I inquired to Harther who simple shook his head. I felt a tap on my shoulder and turned to find one of the Guards holding out a letter which I took and began to read.

Master Leonhart,

I am sorry for the inconvenience, but it appears that I will be unable to leave with you at this time. Matters have arisen that are beyond my control and , therefore, I will have to meet up with you and Master Harther later down the road. I have already spoken with his Highness the Arch Mage and he has excused me for the time being. I am deeply sorry for the trouble this may cause you but it can't be avoided. I wish you luck and success and may the gods watch over you.

Lady Montreau

After finishing I folded the letter back and placed in my bag as I informed Harther of Lady Khavi's situation. I am sure she will meet us in Kandary, perhaps Seth if she completes her work earlier. I finished as I mounted my horse and waited for the others to do the same. We had better be off, we wont reach Seth until night fall. I nodded to them and with three short clicks that I made with my tongue sent my horse into a full galloped out of the Academy walls, through the city of Portsmouth, and finally out the city gates into the Illusion Woods.

These woods were properly named such for a reason. There was no real path leading through the woods due to the fact that it was constantly changing. It was almost as if the trees moved about themselves. From what I could remember, this was actually the work of the original founders of the Mystic Academy, it was done to protect the Academy from those who wished it harm. If one was to enter the forest that brought with him danger, the woods would not allow him to enter the fair city of Portsmouth. This was just one of the charms that the founders placed on the areas around Portsmouth. The other was on the opposite side of the Academy, Otrad Lake. It was larger than normal and was connected to the Tusken Sea by a river. The lake had a charm placed on it just as the forest. This charm kept the Academy safe from attacks from the water but no one knew just how the charm did this. Word is that its a huge whirlpool others think its a kind of Storm.

We made our way through the forest without problems or words for that matter. Harther and Tristram seemed to be preoccupied with their own thoughts and I was surly not going to be the one to disturb them. Instead I rode on silent pondering the different possibilities of the attackers of the Cascade Temple.

We must have been traveling quicker than I had anticipated because we reached the black market town of Seth a few hours before night fall. It appears that we are ahead of schedule I finally called out breaking the awkward silence for the group. We will be taking up the night in the Elven Lore Inn just west of the city's entrance. Be on your guard though, this town is full of ill mannered people, I suggest we not let our guard down for a moment. I finished as we passed through the gates of Seth and into the darkness of its streets.

Tristram searched the town in front of him, scanning for hoodlums and pickpockets. He would take his time going to the inn; he didn't require sleep, nor food, nor drink, just meditation. For a man appearing to be in his late 40's, he had incredible stamina. I have a feeling I'm going to be bored here, he lamented. Although, it will be recreational to visit the "black market" this town is famous for. He searched the streets for shops that dealt with something other than weapons and armor. A small corner shop claimed to be home to a variety of magickal things. He entered. It became obvious this amounted to a fairly mouldy bookshop, specializing in occult garbage, like, "Summoning Satan for Suckers", and "Illusion Magic for the Learning Disabled". What a bunch of horse shit. I wouldn't use this for paperweights. He looked around a few more moments, then began to leave, when the owner came up behind him.
"Can I help you find something?" Trist turned to stare down at the sweaty, specticaled man. No, he wasn't developed enough to be a man, in voice or in size.
"No. If you had anything worth reading, I'd have found it by now." The owner gasped in amazement. Tristram looked confused. "What?"
"Oh...Ohhh...Ho-hold on a second..." The boy ran back behind the counter, and rushed back. He now carried a small book with him. "You...Wow, I've never met someone of your stature, Mister Coffin." Trist raised an eyebrow. "Can you sign my autograph book?"
"What in the Nine Hells are you going on about, boy?"
"You are Tristram Coffin, the famous Necromancer, right? You look just about the way I've heard about you!"
"I have other things I have to attend to..."
"Oh, I just want you to sign this book, please? I've waited my entire life for this."
"No."
"Please?"
"NO."
"Come on, I idolize you, Mister Coffin! I want to be just like you when I grow up!"
"What did I just say, damn it?! I'm not going to sign your idiotic book!"
"Isn't there any way for me to convince you..."
Tristram focused his voice into a sound of frozen rage. "Not unless you burn this place down and yourself with it." The boy fell silent. "I don't need fans, you ignorant swine, so go find some other half-wit spell slinger to latch your sweaty palms onto." He went back to join his compatriots in the inn they had agreed upon earlier. He found them sitting in the far corner of the tavern, but decided to rest at the bar instead. He seemed to go unnoticed by both the two mystic warriors and the locals, and calmly called for the barkeep to serve him some red wine. He swirled it counter-clockwise twice, and sipped it. Strife was right. This place is dangerous. To my temper.
