Trapped

A man in a box within a box,
Living a life within a dream,
Beyond a dream,
Within arms reach,
Beyond arms grasp.

Drinking desire from an empty bottle,
Filling up instead on emptiness,
From a neverending supply,
Free from taint,
Yet full of poison.

Am I alive?
Or do I lie dead?
When waking is no option,
Shadows barring the doors.
I'm an expert on shakespeare,
And that's a hell of a lot,
But the world don't need scholars,
As much as I thought.

"You tell me where Josh is, or I won't just give you a scene, I'll give you the whole goddamn stage play!"

We

We, we are many and varied,
Though all for one and true
To each other,
With purest hearts
And strength immeasurable.

We, we are brothers and sisters,
True lovers too, parents and children,
But for blood.
Arms and shoulders offered,
When duty calls.

We, we stake our claim,
Planting our flags and
Swallowing our spirits
As well as the oldest soldiers of war.
Though we strike for peace.

And we shall never falter,
Beneath any slight,
Or attempted wound.
For we are friends unbreakable,
And friends we shall always be.
I'm an expert on shakespeare,
And that's a hell of a lot,
But the world don't need scholars,
As much as I thought.

"You tell me where Josh is, or I won't just give you a scene, I'll give you the whole goddamn stage play!"

Mistakes

In an everlasting land of night
I find myself bewitched and held
By maidens of a lustful nature
Whilst my heart dies bitterly
Broken in tormented ruin
I feel nothing.

Nothing but disgust and hate
For what this flesh and bone would turn to
As all others allow themselves
To twist into mis-shapen carnal beasts
Un-natural and yet all too clear
In their evergrowing delight.
I'm an expert on shakespeare,
And that's a hell of a lot,
But the world don't need scholars,
As much as I thought.

Baggage/Paranoia

My mind a reeling mass of chaos,
In the eye of a raging storm,
Though calm surrounds me and fools the blind,
I am lost in confusion my body twisted in form.

Choices ever choices made in doubtful haste,
Mismade and ever haunting,
Leave behind an ever bitter bloody aftertaste,
Fools lead the blind in merry dance.

Relax! They say as bastards sharpen hateful knives,
Of purest envy and jaded sense of loss,
And prime the back with jests and silken touch,
And as you fall let fly the masks of spiteful pretense,
And then with wicked smiles return to their own lives.
I'm an expert on shakespeare,
And that's a hell of a lot,
But the world don't need scholars,
As much as I thought.

Unfinished Business

Deliberating on the lost and found,
And digging through the frames and little signs,
And staring at the starlight sky,
I find myself amidst the scars and litter tips,
The human refuge of this fragile mind.

My heart may beat on,
But does my soul feel free?
Bound and trapped by nightmares,
And held by a mockery with a jester's grin.

As the tide overcomes,
And strikes down the walls,
Undefended I lie open,
As with a bitter smile I realise,
That she in not finished with me.
I'm an expert on shakespeare,
And that's a hell of a lot,
But the world don't need scholars,
As much as I thought.

Us

I've danced with the devil many a time
Seen his forms
As varied as the beastly hydra
And the scarlet syren.

I've played chess with the devil
Forged my faith in her fires
As he's made her move
And forced me back.

I've taken spirits with the devil
Amidst the banging of dark drums
Amidst the smoke
Between seducers and the seduced.

I've lain with the devil
Been bound by his chains
Entwined in her limbs
As my soul has been slowly torn away.

I've looked into the eyes of the devil
Peered through his windows
And seen the light that shines
For she is half to us all.
I'm an expert on shakespeare,
And that's a hell of a lot,
But the world don't need scholars,
As much as I thought.

The Three

Swirling silence ever serene in it's tranquility
Ever restrictive in it's very force
And ever damaging in it's very teeth,
Tears and rends the space and time and love between.

Maddening rage quells the silence
Yet unleashes it's own three beasts
Of green and yellow and crimson red,
Crumbling the towers of hope.

And onwards ever onwards to denial
The worst of three so far
Where little is achieved and much is lost,
Within and without a battle fought on the run.

Then the bitter discovery that comes at last
The twisted dagger in the side
As tragic realisation sets in,
We discover nothing at the heart of it all.

We throw ourselves through the flames
And the freezing ice,
Through one drunken stupor
To the very next.

High on the devil's fumes
Tortured by the very scars that mark us all
Inhaling our daily comfort,
Swallowing our daily pride.

Then pulling ourselves once more together
Standing once more strong and tall
Deluded into self belief
And mistaken in our courage and our creed.
I'm an expert on shakespeare,
And that's a hell of a lot,
But the world don't need scholars,
As much as I thought.

Butterfly

Haunting winter echoes of screams
Through to spring days
Calm grey skies
The threat of stormy weather
But the promise of sunshine to come.

Autumn leaves strewn
Across a field of gold
Ivory with midnight drapes
Hiding the crimson falls
As steel clashes with steel.

Silk to the touch
Stone to the strike
A butterfly
Colours mixing across a blank canvass
The wings unfurl.

Depth beyond in a darkened room
Waiting for a light to spark
Shadows remain
But soon depart
Yielding to purest white.

Let it shine
Lower your guard
And fly.
I'm an expert on shakespeare,
And that's a hell of a lot,
But the world don't need scholars,
As much as I thought.
