On December 1st, 2006 we will be having a rebirth of sorts. There will be several things going on that will affect everyone from staff on down to players and from casual players, to casual posters.
Over the years we have promised various recodes, various updates and tweaks to the Canon game. Most of all of those promises have fallen by the wayside for some reason or another. Along with those promises some pretty significant changes have taken place to our community. We have lost and gained staff members, some long time players have left the community, and some have returned. It seems like we have just been floating along and acting as some form of a revolving door. On December 1st, we are hoping to take the steps towards rebuilding our community, gaining some of those former players back, and hopefully introducing some new players to our games and - in my opinion - one of the down to earth honest online communities out on the internet today. We may not always be the most friendliest group, but when we have someone in need or when tragedy hits one of our own - we stand beside them and come to aid them regardless of our differences.
With that in mind, here is what will be happening on and up to December 1st.
November 28th-30th - You may be receiving an email from us. This email is part of a advertising idea we had to reinvite people back to check out Canon. If your email address is on file with us and still valid, you may get a copy. We will also be submitting news articles to a couple online game review sites. The overall goal is to invite people who may have left some years ago back for another round, and possibly get a couple new folks from those sites looking for the type of games we offer. Kaz has also setup a Myspace account. If you are a user and wish to add us to your profile, please see the following thread in Comments. http://www.evernight.com/boards/canon/v ... hp?t=27731
November 30th - All games will be taken off-line. Normally I don't give advanced notice of a reset. We have found that the random resets seem to keep the last few days/weeks of the games from being so chaotic. This time, all games will be resetting on November 30th. Tempers Ball may also be unavailable at certain points on the 30th as I take it down to do some upgrades and backups. I will probably do this early in the morning, but it honestly depends on my schedule. Please let your guildmates know of the impending downtime.
December 1st. - All games will be reset, restarted, and opened. Including the latest release of Canon - Massacre. Some of you have been helping Kaz out with the testing. Others who have not will have the chance to see his version of an all-out slug fest Canon game. For more information about Massacre you can check out the forum at : http://www.evernight.com/boards/canon/v ... .php?f=206
As an aside - for those who have not tried out Covenant, I strongly urge you to make a kingdom and give it a whirl. Sunblade, Voice Evangeline and Gili have spent hours reworking some of the functions to make it unique when compared to our other games from a technical stand point, and some of the role play there is second to none for you creative types.
-------------------------------------------------
I know this is not ground breaking news for alot of people. But we have adapted another approach in planning for the future. In the past we have promised some big changes and got everyone hyped up and due to one thing or another have not been able to follow through on those promises. This time we are aiming a little bit smaller. A few months back I reached out to Kaz and Gili for help with the development of Canon. Both are excellent programmers, and outside of being Brits and on a weird time schedule, have done wonderful things thus far that I have not been able to do.
We have planned this out as nothing more then a small step on a long road towards regrowing this community. With Massacre's release, Kaz and Gili will be turning his attention back to the PVP game. Debacle is also an interesting game that might see some development love. We have discussed expanding on some of the ideas Dustin has introduced when he originally started working on the game. But our hope is to not get ahead of ourselves and take this one step at a time.
We hope that you folks, players, ex-players, posters and the like will help us with this 'rebirth' of sorts. If you haven't played in awhile - give it a shot. It takes less time to make a kingdom then it does to answer a private message, and even less time a day to play it. With the variety of games we have there is definitely a game that can handle the amount of time (or not) you may have. If you know of some people who haven't played in awhile or may of lost touch with us - invite them back. Again, its a simple thing to shoot a email or ICQ or some other type of message and link people back here. If playing Canon is not an option for you - then simply hang around and post. Part of what has made this place great over the years has been both the simple to pick up game, the other part has been the open community.
The last thing I plan on doing December 1st is wiping the ban list. I am willing to forgive and forget those who may have gotten on the wrong side of us at one point or another. As long as the rules are followed I'm willing to give a second, third, fifth or in some cases infinite chance to rejoin us.
If nothing else - all we ask is you give us a shot, or hang around and see what else we come up with. Hopefully 2007 will be a very good year for us.
I have made a thread in Comments for anyone who wishes to comment on this news. You can find that here. http://www.evernight.com/boards/canon/v ... 496#636496
Happy Holidays,
Brian
