MuM gets the puppies out (MuM vs DoW)

Postby Ricardo » Sun Jun 10, 2007 5:53 pm

Fresh from his vacation Ricardo felt invigorated and alive again, he gathered all the Mercs and discussed over a flagon of ale or two what had gone on in the two weeks he had been away.

Nothing but building, partying, drinking and gambling

THis was a shocking revelation to him, he had tried hard to build the guild name up as a bunch of war mongerging bastages - he thoguht he had cracked it recently as every bugger seemed to want to fight them these days - in fact he had run out of Stella Artois to give his troops to make them feel invincible.

This was a shocking state of affairs, he left that bloody hippy Gili in charge and he comes back to all this make love not war nonsense with Gili passing around some funny smelling cigarettes - this would have to stop - war was needed they were turning into a bunch of slackers. They needed something really meaty to get their teeth into, a challenge to get the blood pumping - oh yes the Dogs would do nicely, after all they had been idle for a long time.

DOGS OF WAR (DoW) 10 770,117

MERRY UNION OF MERCENARIES (MuM) 11 440,960

We came, we looked at you, Gili shat himself and then we hit what we could - will be a bloody touch war this - but hey it wouldnt be fun otherwise would it.

Oh dont worry, you got a good first hit in, but we shall make you pay. Sadly I was low on turns from scouting you and then smashing one kingdom. The hounds shall have to bring the rest of you down tonight.

Ahh well, no biggy, you mainly only made 1 kingdom that was allready big even bigger, only 1 other really profited from my fall. Sadly I have been disappointed by my guilds turnout for war chats. I figured they would be chomping at the bit for a war but instead they seem to be taking a nap. A few woke up tonight and we took another one of your guys down to the bottom. Even if its one at a time we shall not give up. You will pay.

Our forces overran Wartarok and easily held him while the offending parts were snipped. You lost nothing. Your enemy lost .. well we know what he lost :D Several thousand acres of land were taken from the now non reproductive savage.

... Last I checked one required balls to be considered a male.

... Then again they did disallow Wikipedia as a citable source for many college papers.

... Or maybe someone just beat me to it...

... Hmmmm.

Carry on.

Beyond Definitions of Manhood: Asking the Better Question
Erikson, Carl. Voice Male. Amherst: Summer 2002. pg. 21

What does it mean to be a man?" The men's movement asks this question all the time, and gets many different answers. This magazine, explicitly or otherwise, asks it very often.

But this is a self-defeating question.

Self-defeating because it locks me into "Man" -- a stereotype. It locks me into the dichotomy of male and female, both stereotypes, either/or, no ands. It locks me up in prescribed boxes and delivers me into the control of others to be manipulated (think about the "man" in this word), bribed, and punished. It denies my freedom of choice, my Self, my individual expression, my dignity.

The goal of a "new definition of masculinity" is likewise a self-defeating one. A definition, by definition, sets a single standard, one way, for what it defines. A new definition of masculinity is just a new and different stereotype. Males aren't just one thing. They are many different human beings. Even our genitalia are no guarantee of being "male," as transgendered individuals will attest.

"A more sensitive male" is an oxymoron, impossible to create. A "male," by social definition, is insensitive and incapable of expressing feelings. Make him sensitive and society declares, "He's a fag, a wimp, a sissy, a girl" -- anything but male. If a more sensitive male were possible, it would be just another stereotype for men to get locked into by others, another part someone else is telling us to play. Of course, we could define masculinity, maleness, as "open" or anything else. But how can there be a "definition" if there are no limits or specifics? And why this insistence that there be a definition of "male," anyway? Any definition becomes a box.

The better question, it seems to me, is: Who am I, me, myself only? No stereotypes here. No boxes. No either/or. No rules, expectations, direction by society or family for their benefit. The answer to this question satisfies me, instead of putting me into a panic or depression. It puts firm ground under my feet to withstand the ever-shouting demands and expectations of others, such as the media, family, institutions, and "common sense." It gives me a direction and purpose from which to confidently judge and choose from among what life puts in front of me.

Like all freedoms, however, this question demands that I consciously discover my Self. That I take full responsibility for the consequences of my choices and my expressions of who I am. Society, my boss, the times, fate, and my family are no longer available as excuses for what I choose to do. It's my choice, and I'd better be sure I like the reasons for my choice.

Answering the better question, Who am I?, is pointless, however, unless I also take responsibility to express who I am. An answer without expression is just a wish. When I express who I am in feelings, words, and actions, my wish comes true, my life changes. In all honesty, though, choosing to express who I am doesn't make my life any easier. It just makes it a lot more meaningful and satisfying.

When you ask this question and find your own answers, in all probability many things and people will initially oppose your answers and will almost certainly oppose your expressing them. This opposition can often be strong, endless, and sometimes vicious. However, the certainty of your answer, which you will feel, and the surprising allies who appear, will help you to withstand this opposition. On the other hand, you may be one of the lucky men who finds his process of change smooth and filled with unexpected cooperation and pleasure.

Whatever the response you get, the Better Question is not an easy one to answer, particularly if you've spent some time chasing the What Does It Mean to Be a Man question. The answer to this old question lies with others, and would have you constantly looking over your shoulder. The answer to the better question lies within you, where it has lain for years. You will feel "aha" more often than "oh my." In all probability, your answer will mean the rejection of many notions you believed were sacred, immutable, or cosmic, which can be very upsetting. Whatever your feelings, take a deep breath. You'll find your answer will be very personal to you. Once you come to it, you'll feel like you just hit a game-winning home run, or sang the highest note in the aria, or found the perfect link for your computer programming. And you will have no doubt that it's absolutely true, truer than any limiting "definition" of masculinity.

I love ya and all Ger but somehow it seems that a debate on Masculinity with you would leave a few too many loopholes for you to slither through.

-Wiggles tongue and tosses the scissors to ya-

Careful now, those aint the little yella Crayola ones they usually let ya play with.
